***** Chick-fil-A, 10300 West Forest Hill Boulevard, Wellington, Florida 33414, (561) 333-4242.

To make this one “easy” I copied the following from national fast-food chicken chain Chick-Fil-A’s website—www.chik-fil-a.com:

“It all started in 1946, when Truett Cathy opened his first restaurant, The Dwarf Grill, in Hapeville, Georgia. Credited with inventing Chick-fil-A’s boneless breast of chicken sandwich, Mr. Cathy founded Chick-fil-A, Inc. in the early 1960s and pioneered the establishment of restaurants in shopping malls with the opening of the first Chick-fil-A Restaurant at a mall in suburban Atlanta in 1967. Since then, Chick-fil-A has steadily grown to become the second largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain in the United States, with over 1,615 locations in 39 states and Washington, D.C. In 2011, annual sales were over $4.1 billion. Chick-fil-A is still privately held and family owned.”
*****

I’m gonna assume that everyone here is familar with Chick-fil-A…for our purposes, according to the Company’s website it currently has 155 locations in Florida…these “joints’ are all over the place with free-standing units as well as mall food court locations.

For those of you who don’t “know” about Chick-fil-A…the primary item sold is a lightly breaded/pressured cooked chicken breast…this item comes on a bun, in a salad, in a wrap or in nugget form–Chick-fil-A also has a chargrilled chicken and chicken salad…the joint does waffle fries and a handful of desserts. To liven up the discussion, we could “talk” about the religious/moral reasons why Chick-fil-A’s locations are closed on Sunday, but we won’t. We could also talk about its franchising business, which is just a “glorified” extremely well paying job for its franchisees, but we won’t. We could also talk about the Company’s long running “battle” with America’s gay-community over what the definition of “marriage” is, but we won’t. For those of you who like to “dig deeper”—do some online searching—the Chick-fil-A “story” is a real interesting read…Anyway, no matter how you slice it, Chick-fil-A is an amazing business success story…just imagine what its “numbers” would be if those 1,615 locations were open on Sunday!

This past Saturday afternoon, Jeff Eats found himself sitting in the food-court at The Mall At Wellington Green in Wellington—waiting patiently for 1-hour as Mrs. Jeff Eats shopped for God Only Knows For What! To be perfectly honest with you, Saturday isn’t usually a “mall-day” for Jeff Eats…Sunday, maybe—but Saturday is a rarity. I’ll betcha you a nickel, that most of you guys right about now “see” where I’m going with this tale…Anyway, low and behold right in front of me is this Chick-fil-A outlet pumping out a ton of stuff—and believe it or not, Jeff Eats in all his years has never-ever “had” anything from Chick-fil-A. So, I ordered the breaded chicken breast which came on a toasted buttered bun with pickle chips, a chicken salad sandwich on wheat bread, waffle fries. Let me make this real simple, the food was absolutely dynamite. Absolutely one of the best “fried” chicken items I’ve ever eaten—same for the chicken salad—the fries which were lightly salted were also delicious.

Let me wrap Chick-fil-A up this way…

Prior to eating this joint’s food, I really didn’t “appreciate”- why it had so many outlets, legendary loyal customers and the ability to be “closed” on Sunday. I do now…this is one Hell (oops!) of a fast-food chain.

OpenTable Reveals 100 Best Steakhouses in America

Winning Restaurants Span 28 States and the District of Columbia;
California, Illinois, and Texas Steakhouses Top the List;
Notable Cities include Chicago, Las Vegas, and New York City

SAN FRANCISCO – November 2, 2016 – As we look forward to the holiday dining season, OpenTable, the world’s leading provider of online restaurant reservations and part of The Priceline Group (NASDAQ: PCLN), today unveiled the 100 Best Steakhouses in America for 2016. These awards reflect the combined opinions of more than 5 million restaurant reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners for more than 20,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Highlighting both traditional steakhouses and novel takes on the concept, the complete list features restaurants in 28 states and the District of Columbia and includes Bavettes in Chicago, Keens Steakhouse in New York and STK in Las Vegas. California, Illinois, and Texas each have 17 winning restaurants, followed by New York with 14 and Nevada with 12. Massachusetts has eight honorees, and Ohio and Pennsylvania boast six apiece. Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, and Washington, D.C., each have five honorees. South Carolina has three restaurants, while Indiana, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, and Washington all have two standout steakhouses. Alabama, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Rhode Island are also represented.

“With its long history and timeless traditions, the steakhouse occupies a special place in our nation’s dining culture,” says Caroline Potter, OpenTable Chief Dining Officer. “These winning restaurants are honoring those comforting – and delicious — traditions while providing top-notch hospitality that diners want to return for again and again. We can’t imagine a better place to celebrate the holidays than at one of America’s greatest steakhouses.”

The list of the 100 Best Steakhouses in America are generated from more than 5 million restaurant reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners between October 1, 2015, and September 30, 2016. All restaurants in the “steak” cuisine category with a minimum “overall” score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to their overall food rating.

Based on this methodology, the following restaurants, listed in alphabetical order, comprise the 100 Best Steakhouses in America according to OpenTable diners. The complete list may also be viewed at http://www.opentable.com/m/best-steakhouses-in-america-2016/.

* Win A $25 Miller’s Ale House Gift Card.

Jeff Eats got a $25 Miller’s Ale House Gift Card to give to one of you guys…

The game- the first 25 “reader-comments” received – will be entered in a “blind hat pick”! You can submit as many comments as you’d like but- Please, only 1- reader comment – per day…play fair!

The $25 Gift Card is good at any of Miller’s 74 Ale House locations (millersalehouse.com for locations/menus/prices/info).

Posted on March 24th, 2016

***** Miller’s Ale House, 1200 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 988-9142.

Jeff Eats is gonna take a shot here and “think” that you guys know what Miller’s Ale House is! If not- sports bar chain that currently has 51 joints in Florida, 1 in Georgia, 2 in Illinois, 1 in Maryland, 1 in Massachusetts, 2 in Nevada, 3 in New Jersey, 6 in New York, 1 in Ohio, 4 in Pennsylvania. You can check millersalehouse.com for locations/menu/prices/operating hours/info.

Way-back on July 12, 2008 Jeff Eats told you-about the Miller’s Ale House in Jupiter, Florida. In 2008 I described the joint’s food as being okay and perfectly priced! That tale is reprinted down-below.

If you guys can keep a secret, since that 7/12/2008 tale printed (until this past Monday) Jeff Eats hadn’t been back “to” a Miller’s Ale House. No particular reason, just hadn’t been back!

Long story short, this past Monday- Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Son Jeff Eats and Daughter Jeff Eats ate dinner at the Miller’s Ale House on Yamato Road in Boca Raton- and I gotta tell you, we had an absolutely great-time. Rather than bother you guys telling you -that this location has a separate bar area/booth/table seating, more flat screen tvs than you can count, a covered out door patio with its own bar, a menu loaded with appetizers- burgers- salads-wings- entrees- desserts- beers- booze…let me tell you that the fried calamari, chicken Caesar salad, chicken nachos, breaded boneless garlic wings, grilled teriyaki wings, bbq baby back ribs, bacon cheeseburger, onion rings, French fries that we ordered were all delicious.

Look! I don’t know about your family, but getting the members of Jeff Eats’ immediate family to agree on virtually anything- is a monumental task. With that in mind, last night-all four of us agreed that the food killed, that the prices were super reasonable and that the service was as competent/pleasant as could be!

As I mentioned a few seconds ago, Jeff Eats hadn’t been to a Miller’s Ale House in something like 7 1/2 years! All I can tell you guys- the joint was absolute dynamite! If the other 71 Miller’s are like the Yamato Road outpost- you now know about a sports bar “chain” that really has its act together- and is an absolute must try!

Miller’s Ale House is open Sunday 11am-midnight, Monday-Saturday 11am-2am.

Posted on July 12th, 2008
***** Miller’s Jupiter Ale House, 126 Center Street, Jupiter, Florida 33458 (561) 746-7620

Miller’s owns and operates a “ton” and I do mean a “ton” of sports-bars/ale houses in South Florida. Check millersalehouse.com for locations/menu/prices/hours.

Miller’s joints all take on a local name…in Boca Raton, the joint is the Boca Ale House…in Jupiter the joint is the Jupiter Ale House…in Coral Springs the joint is the Coral Springs Ale House…so on and so forth.

Over the years, I have eaten in a number of Miller’s South Florida locations…my most recent meal being in the Jupiter Ale House 3 weeks ago. All of the Ale Houses look alike…big bar area, tvs galore, small game room, wood booths. The menus are the same…tons of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and entrees…something for everybody. Just so you know, the food is okay- not great…(operative word) OKAY… The prices are cheap…that’s the game…like a 20 oz. bone-in porterhouse steak with french fries for something like 10 bucks.

I have to tell you, that every so often, I really enjoy a grizzly-steak covered in grilled onions and french fries drenched in ketchup that costs $9.99…Sort of reminds me of Tad’s Broiled Steaks (you- New Yorkers know what I am talking about) circa 1960.

The Ale Houses are open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Like I said, okay food priced perfectly.

By the way…some of you may not know, but Tad’s Broiled Steaks currently has a location at 152 West 34th Street, New York, New York 10001 (212) 630-0318…those were the days.

* Win A $50 Applebee’s Gift Card.

Real simple story, Jeff Eats got a $50 Applebee’s Gift Card to give to one of you guys…

The game- the first 25 “reader-comments” received – will be entered in a “blind hat pick”! You can submit as many comments as you’d like but- Please, only 1- reader comment – per day…play fair!

The $50 Gift Card is good at any Applebee’s (applebees.com for locations, menu, info).

Posted on June 7th, 2014
***** Applebee’s, 15058 Jog Road, Delray Beach 33433, (561) 865-8757.

Got a good story for you guys…

Last night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple ate at the Applebee’s located at 15058 Jog Road, Delray Beach. I’m assuming that you guys know what “an” Applebee’s is…if not, American Style -national chain with a full liquor bar/tvs, tons of reasonably priced appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, wings, entrees, desserts.

Anyway,

Prior to last night, the last time Jeff Eats had eaten in an Applebee’s was September 8, 1998. The reason that I remember that date, I was in an Applebee’s (1720 South Federal Highway, Delray Beach) and watched Mark McGuire hit homerun #62 breaking Roger Maris’ record. We’ll leave McGuire’s steroid story for another day.

Now nothing for nothing, back in 1998 Jeff Eats didn’t exist-it wasn’t until 2006 that I “decided” that you guys needed to know -what, where and how I ate. So other than the-homerun I really don’t remember the “actual” 1998 meal. In addition, for the life of me, I can’t figure out why 1998 was the last time I ate at Applebee’s.

To make a long story short,

Very dear friends, Norman and Lynne swear by this chain. In addition to an apartment in North Miami they have a home in Belmont, North Carolina and an apartment in New Paltz, New York.–over the past 25 years -their numerous road trips have literally had them in Applebee’s all over the place.

Last night the four of us ate in Applebee’s and I gotta tell you- the food, service and reasonable prices blew me away. No fooling here-the house salads, bbq grilled wings, grilled chicken wontons/tacos, cheeseburger sliders, bbq ribs, grilled sirloin steak, french fries, onion rings, mashed potatoes, mozzarella sticks, white brownie/vanilla ice cream, pub pretzels with caramel sauce were all delicious.

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, no ifs ands or buts- last night’s “American Style” meal was one of the best I’ve had in years. To be perfectly honest with you, the food ran circles around most of the stuff served in South Florida’s sports bars–Not to start a pissing match or nothing, but chains like The Cheesecake Factory, Chili’s, Friday’s, J Alexander’s got nothing on Applebee’s.

On service-when we walked in, we were actually greeted by a pleasant- energetic hostess. Sammie our waitress knew the menu-cold making some great recommendations and made sure our glasses were never empty. One other thing, Jeff Eats notices things and I gotta tell you that George (GM) was all over the joint- visiting tables, chatting with customers, helping/bussing tables-doing what a GM is suppose to do, that being staying on top of his restaurant. Trust Jeff Eats on this, I’ve seen many a GM in action (or shall I say inaction!) and this guy was good-real good…The restaurant was real-busy, yet the service/food were all “handled” as they were suppose to be.

On the price front-real reasonable…check www.applebees.com for menu/prices/locations.
I will tell you, that Applebee’s gives you a ton of food for the money. When you’re on Applebee’s website checkout its- 2 eat for $20 or $25 deals.

Like I said 37 seconds ago, Applebee’s is a national chain. This “story” is about the Delray Beach Jog Road restaurant-that said, there are plenty of Florida locations for you to eat at.

Applebee’s is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm.

In closing, Norman and Lynne you were so right…Jeff Eats should have gotten “back” sooner.

Applebee’s is dynamite!

Let me start by saying, Jeff Eats loved- Howie’s Top Dog in Davie.

Real simple concept…fast food-order at/pickup at the counter/20 seats—hot dogs (All-Beef-Vienna…either boiled or grilled), burgers, stuffed baked potatoes, salads, handful of sandwiches/sides.

A recent outing had Jeff Eats “doing” –breaded chicken filet sub with ketchup, mayo, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, pickles ($4.99)—-grilled hot dog with mustard/sauerkraut ($3.29)—-cheese stuffed (American/cheddar/mozzarella/feta) baked potato ($4.99)—- Greek Salad ($6.99)…Do you know what pigs in sh@t are? Well Jeff Eats and to a lesser extend Mrs. Jeff Eats were two of them.-Give you two guesses and the first one doesn’t count- as to who ordered the Greek salad!

Real Easy,

Howie’s Top Dog’s food was delicious. I must-tell you, that- breaded chicken filet sub was worth the drive alone–just outstanding! Loved it!

You can check Howie’s Top Dog’s website www.howiestopdog.com for menu/prices/photos/other info.

An old one in Pompano Beach recently relocated to a new double lane-drive-thru on Federal Highway…great looking store.

Just so you guys know, Jeff Eats loves-soft serve and Dairy Queen’s is off the chart delicious! The joint has a thing called a Blizzard where you can have all kinds of stuff “ground into” your soft serve…I am telling you chocolate soft serve with Heath Bar is the way to go!

By the way, Dairy Queen also has “things” like burgers and hot dogs…don’t bother. The game is SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM.

You can check Dairy Queen’s website www.dairyqueen.com for menu/locations.

Unless you have been living on Mars for something like 75 years…I haven’t told you anything that you already didn’t know.
