You guys and Jeff Eats both know that there are more “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joints in Florida than there are Chins in a Chinese phonebook. With that in mind, we also know that- some are better than others- and I gotta tell you, that last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats found a really good one- Fantastico! Pizza and Bistro in Jupiter!

Real simple concept here- menu of reasonably priced appetizers/ pizzas/ pastas/ salads/ calzones/ subs/ meat-chicken-seafood dishes, booth seating, open Tuesday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11-11pm, Sunday 11am-9:30pm, closed Monday.

Like I said 2.2 seconds ago, last night- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate dinner at Fantastico! and the food killed!

Jeff Eats knows his crowd and right about now- some of you guys are wondering how the pizza was?- am I right or am I right? Now this is just a subjective call, but I’m thinking that Fantastico!’s pizza (thin crispy crust, sweet sauce, nice fold, oil drip) would do real good on the streets of the 5 boroughs!

Last night I gave Village Tavern an “American Style” joint located in Boynton Beach a shot…there is also a Village Tavern in Pembroke Pines—when you check the joint’s website www.villagetavern.com for menu/prices you will find that there are a handful more in several other states.

Village Tavern seats something close to 300. There is a dining room and separate bar area.

The best way to describe Village Tavern’s decor—think Cheesecake Factory, Houston’s, J. Alexander’s and you got the picture.

Last night, this joint was jammed. I will tell you, that an 8pm reservation for 4–was honored.

Now let’s talk food…the menu is loaded with appetizers, salads, pastas, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, meat-seafood-chicken entrees. This evening I “did” bbq pulled pork sliders (3-with french fries $8.50), bacon cheeseburger ($9.95), grilled talapia ($16.95), grilled chicken & penne ($14.50), shrimp scampi ($15.95)…I enjoyed all of the food, except the french fries which were on the “limp” side.

Village Tavern is a WINNER. Nice sized portions. Very reasonable prices. Pleasant and competent waitstaff.

The Mrs’s flight was 2 hours late so we decided to have dinner in Ft Lauderdale rather than fight the traffic on I 95. Needless to say it wasn’t very difficult to talk her into dining out. I was really, really hungry so we decided to go to Texas de Brazil on Sunrise opposite the Galleria Mall. When we walked in at 6:15 we were the only 2 patrons in the entire restaurant. I jokingly said to the Manager on duty, Danilo (Danny) Cardoso, that life expectancy of this restaurant didn’t look promising. He said that this was a late dining crowd. I told him that at this hour, diners in Boca had finished dinner and were already heading home. Danny was very friendly and we hit it off. He is a real asset to the chain. By the way, Danny was right within 45 minutes of our being seated the place was almost at capacity.
Now on to the important items – food and service. They have a very extensive salad bar with veggies, cheeses, meats like prosciutto, etc. There were also some hot items like lobster bisque soup, black beans and rice, cod fish, escalloped potatoes. Finally, we get to the real carnivore aspects of dinner. Gauchos circulate the tables with large skewers of meat. There were skewers with filet mignon, sirloin, lamb, pork, chicken, ribs, sausages. They cutoff slices for you. By your table setting is a card that basically says keep bringing that meat or no, my pants will split if I consume another ounce. Most of the meats were well seasoned and very tasty. Our server, Solamene (hope I didn’t screw up the too badly) was very attentive. Also she brought us fried bananas. Wow, great.
Desserts are delectable with a nice variety. Hard to find room after gorging myself with the prior offerings but I did it or perhaps I should have said, we did as the Mrs. was right there with me. It was a long uncomfortable ride home as my pants were very, very tight around my gut.
Dinner is not inexpensive in that it is a fixed price menu at about $ 48 per person excluding dessert and beverage. For us, it was worth it. If you go there say hello to Danny for us.

Something like 2 weeks ago, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats found this joint- and really enjoyed the late breakfast that we ordered.

Real simple concept at work here…order at counter/food delivered to inside & outside tables/window counter seats, breakfast/sandwich/salad/soup menu, open 7 days a week 8am-5pm.

Let me wrap Madison Avenue Cafe & Deli up for you guys by saying- based on all of the breakfast stuff, sandwiches, subs, wraps, paninis, salads, soups, pastries- that this joint pumps out, I seriously doubt that you or someone in your party isn’t going to find something delicious to eat there!

Now this is purely a subjective call, both Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats rate Orange Octopus’ ice cream as some of the best we’ve eaten down here in Sunny Florida,! Trust me when I tell you, we’ve eaten our fair share of ice cream cones/cups – so I’m kinda thinking that you guys shouldn’t take our “call” here too-lightly!

Orange Octopus Ice Cream store “setup” is pretty standard- order/pickup counter, good handful of inside tables, loads of toppings, different types of cones- what makes this joint a winner is that all of its 24 ice creams are made in house! Let me repeat that- All Of ITS ICE CREAM IS MADE IN HOUSE! Now your tastebuds may- taste differently that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats- taste…all I can tell you is -that the 9 flavors we tasted absolutely killed!
