National Cheese Day

* National Cheese Day.

Bet you guys a nickel that until 2 seconds ago-not one of you had any idea that this coming Monday, June 4th was National Cheese Day!

While we’re on the subject of- making a big deal out of nothing, here’s a recent e-mail which Jeff Eats received from Boar’s Head about this very special “day” 😂…

_______
Hi, I hope you had a great holiday weekend!

Now that we’re back to work, I wanted to see if you had a chance to review my last email? National Cheese Day is June 4th, a day where Americans will indulge in cheesy goodness! Boar’s Head has shared a few key statistics about Americans love for cheese and even discovered that 9 out of 10 respondents would eat multiple servings of cheese every day if they could! Please consider using the infographic (attached) and statistics in my previous email in any stories surrounding cheese in the future.

Subject: 87% Americans Prefer Cheese Over Coffee, Chocolate, & Alcohol!

Hello – June 4 marks National Cheese Day, so I’m sending around information and data points surrounding America’s love for cheese on behalf of Boars’ Head. I hope you find these intriguing!

America’s love for cheese is undeniable, from sandwiches, to salads, to wedding cakes; cheese can be paired with almost any food group. To help celebrate National Cheese Day, Boar’s Head Brand® surveyed Americans on their overall feelings towards cheese and uncovered some interesting findings. It turns out, America’s love for cheese is so deep that 87 percent of respondents noted that they would give up either coffee, chocolate, or alcohol before giving up cheese! Some additional findings included the following:

67 percent noted that they could name more than 5 cheese varieties if asked
If they could, nine out of ten respondents would eat multiple servings of cheese every day
When asked if cheese were banned where they live, 2/3 of respondents (66 percent) would either definitely move, strongly consider it, or possibly move.

SOUTH
Boar’s Head also compiled online cheese-related data in the Southern region of the U.S. – here are their findings:
It’s Unanimous: Cheddar Cheese holds the largest online cheese audience in the South.
Texas Stands Out: Mozzarella cheese is the 3rd largest online cheese in every state except Texas, where Swiss comes 3rd.
Dallas & Houston Separate from Texas: Proportionally, Swiss Cheese holds the largest online audience in Texas, but Cheddar Cheese holds the crown in Houston and Dallas.

Boar’s Head cheeses use the same exacting standards for quality as its premium meats. Boar’s Head Brand® travels the globe to find the most passionate, artisan cheesemakers who employ these standards to ensure exceptional taste.

For additional information, please see Boar’s Head cheese infographic (attached) or refer to the official press release linked below.

Brian Scolaro (Tavolino Della Notte- Coral Springs)

* Brian Scolaro.

This guy Brian Scolaro is off the chart- hilarious!

Trust Jeff Eats, I know that this show is something like 6 months away (Wednesday-11/28/18) that said, put the date “away”- the bet here; it’s gonna be a SRO event!

Don’t miss him!

March 6, 2013
***** Tavolino Della Nonna, 10181 West Sample Road, Coral Springs, Florida 33065, (954) 509-0046.

Back on July 18, 2009 I told you guys about a terrific “semi-upscale” Italian joint Tavolino Della Nonna in Coral Springs. The original writeup is reprinted below.

Since that “story” appeared some- 4 years ago–Jeff Eats has eaten in Tavolino something like 4-5 times. In all honesty, until last Friday night, the last visit was probably well over a year ago.

Anyway- to make a long story short, last Friday night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple ate at Tavolino. The food was as good as the “first” outing and the owners and staff just as engaging and competent. The “update” here is–that Tavolino’s owners recently spent some-big bucks expanding the joint having added an entire “wing” dedicated to entertainment. The night Jeff Eats was there, a jazz group was entertaining a huge crowd.

Let me end this thing by saying, I highly recommend that you guys try this joint. It really has everything going for it…delicious food, terrific service, very reasonable prices–and now, a “night-club” atmosphere for those of you looking for something that you normally don’t find in an Italian joint in the heart of Coral Springs.

***** Tavolino Della Nonna, 10181 West Sample Road, Coral Springs, Florida 33065, (954) 509-0046.

Last night I ate in Tavolino Della Nonna…a terrific white tablecloth Italian joint located in Coral Springs. Just so you know…A couple of you guys wrote to me and told me that I had to try this joint…so, old Jeff gave Tavolino a shot.

Anyway…Tavolino has been in business for something like 2-years. For you GPS types out there, it is located on Sample Road, within short walking distance of both Pizza Time and DeSalvo’s the well known “red sauce” joints. Tavolino is-not a pizza joint…it’s a semi-upscale restaurant with both indoor and outdoor patio seating…but don’t worry your tee shirt-shorts ensemble will work. At this juncture take a look at Tavolina’s website www.tavolinorestaurant.com for menu/prices/photos.

Like I said before, semi-upscale, but the guys running this joint make you feel like an old friend…when you eat there, you’ll see what I am talking about. The owners–shall we say, are very visible and make sure that everything is running just right. Last night, I watched as they made the rounds to each and every table, kibbitizing (in an Italian restaurant?) and making people “try” this and “that”…

Before I talk food, let me tell you about a cute “idea” that the joint has decor-wise…one little side room, is decorated Ralph & Alice Kramden, 328 Chauncey Street…there is a formica table circa 1955 that seats 6-maybe-8…so if this type of thing floats your boat, call ahead and reserve that “table.”

Onto the food…last night I “tried”– meatball appetizer ($11), tortellini appetizer ($13), veal parmigiana ($23), chicken scarpariello (on bone) ($21), snapper almondine ($23), grilled chicken/pasta ($17)…the food is absolutely delicious.

Just so you know…Tavolino isn’t a $13.95-$16.95 soup or salad-entree-pasta side-garlic rolls joint…there is no pizza, subs, calzones or stromboli. Figure on spending–something like 40-50 bucks a head for a great meal. Trust me on this one, the food runs absolute circles around most of the Italian joints down here. I know that the ala carte menu may “scare” some of you guys…the house salad is big enough to feed two as are the side pasta dishes, so if you order the “right way” you won’t have to get a second-job to pay the tab. Our waitress was super-helpful on “picks” etc…last night, they had a “strolling” magician who worked all the tables…how he changed those $1 bills into $100 bills is beyond me.

Since I am on the Hollywood Cookie Diet, I passed on dessert. I will tell you, that the dessert tray looked absolutely incredible and that everything including the joint’s bread are made in house.

You guys know that I eat in Italian joints all the time…I am telling you, that Tavolino is one of the better restaurants in South Florida. You definitely want to try this one.

Tavolino is open Tuesday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday 11am-11pm, Saturday 4pm-11pm and Sunday 4pm-10pm, the joint is closed on Monday.

Last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate at fast-food burger joint, Charm City in Deerfield Beach.

Nothing for nothing, we have been eating at this- order at/pickup at the counter joint since April 17, 2008-so last night’s terrific- bacon cheeseburger, turkey burger, French fries, onion rings came as no “surprise”…

Seeing all of those New York, New Jersey. Ontario license plates on the road,

Just thought I’d mention Charm City to you guys- who have yet to eat there…this joint is an absolute winner! Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you that Charm City runs circles and I do mean circles around fast food burger players like Five Guys and BurgerFi -now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with either of them (Jeff Eats is a real steady customer of both chains), but they are cookie cutter mold type operations, like-you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all!…Charm City is a one-shot-deal, there is only one…so on and so forth.

Great food. Super reasonable prices. Cool vibe!

Printed down below is Jeff Eats’ “review” from October 20, 2009.

Back on April 17, 2008 I did a review on a “burger” joint named Charm City Burger Company. If you check that review, I absolutely loved the food. At that time, the joint had only been open for something like 3-months…and I questioned its “longevity” based on its piss-poor location. To make a long story short…the joint is still around– has new owners– has a cult-like following—and the food is absolutely DELICIOUS.

At this stage of this re-review check www.charmcityburgers.com for menu/prices.

All I can tell you, is that I was in the joint last week…delicious bacon cheeseburger, terrific french fries, great sweet potato fries, incredible chicken wings. sensational grilled chicken and soft shell crab rolls.

Order/pickup at the counter. Absolutely nothing fancy here. Just…outstanding food.

Charm City is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

Got a real good hole in the wall pizza joint for you guys to checkout- Sam’s Pizza in West Palm Beach.

Real simple concept at work here- order/pickup at counter, 2 tables and a handful of counter seats, open Sunday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 10am-11pm.

Last night, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did a large (16”) pepperoni pizza at Sam’s Pizza- and I gotta tell you that it was right on the money. I don’t know about you guys, but Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats like thin/crispy/sweet sauce/gooey cheese pizza- and Sam’s pie fit the bill perfectly!

Just so you guys know, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats only did a large pepperoni pie! That said, based on that-delicious pizza and the great looking chicken parm sub and calzone- the guy next to us was wolfing down- Jeff Eats is gonna make a gut call here and bet that the rest of Sam’s Pizza’s stuff is also real good!

For our purposes Jeff Eats is gonna call the Eagle Grill & Oyster Bar in Greenacres “an out of sight, out of mind” terrific sports bar!

I first told you guys about the Eagle Grill on June 30, 2013- and for some unknown-reason Jeff Eats and for that matter Mrs. Jeff Eats literally “forgot” that the joint even existed! Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and I have eaten there a couple of times since June 30, 2013- that said, based on last night’s dinner of crab cakes/bbq babyback ribs we haven’t been going (back) there enough! The food absolutely killed!

Let me wrap this package up for you guys, if you live or work anywhere near the Eagle Grill & Oyster Bar- then you gotta give it a shot! It’s really that good!

Posted on June 30th, 2013
***** Eagle Grill & Oyster Bar, 4636 Jog Road, Greenacres, Florida 33467, (561) 964-0900.

Got something really-good for you guys…Eagle Grill & Oyster Bar in Greenacres. For our purposes, we’re gonna call this restaurant an “American Style”-“Sports Bar” joint.

Let me start by saying, that Jeff Eats absolutely loved the Eagle Grill.

For what it’s worth…last night, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and our friends Eric and Ellen (Jeff Eats knows Ellen since he was 13 and she was 12) tried the Eagle Grill which had been recommended the night before by our mutual friends Norman and Nancy who live in Delray Beach…confused?

Anyway…

The four of us (that’s Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Eric and Ellen who Jeff Eats knows since he was 13) drove “up” to Greenacres from Boca Raton and found the Eagle Grill in a small shopping center…from the outside, in a million years—the four of us never figured that inside- it was a cool looking neighborhood wood bar/booths/table seating joint with loads of flat screen tvs. By the way, when we got there around 8:15pm–every seat (I’m thinking 125 give or take) in the house including those at the bar were taken—it took us about 10 minutes to catch a booth.

Eagle’s menu has tons of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, wings, pastas, meat/chicken/seafood entrees, desserts…Just so you know, the joint is heavy on the seafood-side of the ledger, but don’t-worry, there is plenty of non fish stuff, so every-one in your party is gonna find what to eat. At this stage of the game, you can check www.eagle-grill.com for menu/prices/photos.

Now listen closely…Eagle Grill’s food isn’t just good, it is outrageously good. Eric ordered the crab cake entrée ($25-2 crab cakes/2 sides) and scarfed those suckers down as if he was Mahata Gandhi breaking a fast. Jeff Eats did a rack of baby-back ribs ($16- two sides), Mrs. Jeff Eats did blackened mahi ($12.50- two sides), Ellen did a shrimp po boy ($8.50 fried shrimp/lettuce/tomato/mayo and one side), the table shared steamed mussels fra diavlo ($8.50) and gumbo ($10). Like I said, 4 seconds ago…the food was outrageously good.

Let me wrap this story up…

Terrific food—super pleasant service—very reasonable prices (for example–from 3pm-9pm the Eagle offers 9 dinners priced at $9.99 a piece).

In baseball parlance, the Eagle Grill is a grand-slam.

For you guys who need a “drop” of clarification. Ellen is married to Eric, Jeff knows Ellen since he was 13 and she was 12, Norman is married to Nancy and vice versa, Nancy and Norman use to live in Boca Raton but now live in Delray Beach but are thinking of moving to Manhattan but aren’t sure on that just yet, the only tv sets currently being manufactured are flat screen tvs so it’s no longer necessary to call them flat screen tvs-just tvs will suffice and a po boy is the “same” as a sub, hero, blimpie, grinder, hoagie…and your tee shirt/shorts ensembles will work beautifully at the Eagle.

Eagle Grill is open Sunday noon-9:30pm, Monday-Thursday 11am-9:30pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-10:30pm.

Finally, if Norman and Nancy decide to move to Manhattan, Jeff Eats will update you guys.

Jeff Eats is thinking that most of you guys have never heard of Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes. If I’m wrong on this, Je suis désolé.

Real simple tale, fast food/order at-pickup at the counter/burger/fries/shake chain. When you check mooyah.com you guys are gonna find that for right now- Mooyah has no Florida joints- a gazillion in Texas and tons in a bunch of other states.

Jeff Eats has eaten in Mooyah’s West Hartford, Connecticut joint and I am telling you, that its burgers, fries and shakes are off the chart good!

Just wanted to let you guys know that Mooyah has 2 Miami locations in the works… 13725 Southwest 152nd Street and 8750 Northwest 21st Terrace- best guess-after visiting both sites (if the respective City Building Departments don’t bust Mooyah’s franchisee’s balls- too much)- the joints should open sometime during the next 4 months…

When Mooyah Burgers, Fries Shakes opens- you gotta try its stuff!

A favorite on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Radio Show. He has appeared on Late Night with Conan Obrien, Comedy Central, CBS, ABC, FOX, MTV and CMT. Greg Hahn has parlayed his absurdly energetic, all out style of physical humor, one liners and crowd work into a performance of immediate pandemonium and continuous laughs. His unique stylings have led to numerous television, corporate and theater appearances throughout the US and Canada. Greg was raised in South Florida where in high school he amused the Catholic nuns by poking holes in his pockets enabling pencils to shoot out of his pant leg. As a college basketball player, his enjoyment of half court shots earned him a sweet spot on the bench. As a Captain in the Marines Corps, Greg kept his men highly motivated and could not overemphasize that camouflage is continuous. While a buyer for Lockheed Corporation, he thought why make $200 a day, when I can be a comedian and make that in a week .After several serious jobs where he refused to be serious, Greg turned pro as a stand up comedian and landed a job as emcee for a theme park lumberjack show. This supplied him with four audiences a day, intoxicated ax swinging lumberjacks, and a log rolling dog. Soon afterwards, he worked as stuntman in the Wild Wild Wild West Stunt Show at Universal Studios. For $20 an hour, I would run out and get hit in the head with a stick, perfect! He continually honed his style of comedy then headed to New York City. While in New York, Greg developed into a touring headliner and costarred in the independent film Tomorrow Night which premiered at theSundance Film Festival. Then, after successful shows at the Montreal and Chicago Comedy Festivals, Greg enjoyed television appearances on Late Night with Conan OBrien (NBC), Premium Blend (Comedy Central), Make Me Laugh (5 episodes, Comedy Central), Louis CKs Pulp Comics (Comedy Central), 30 Seconds to Fame (Fox), Cedric the Entertainer Presents (Fox) and Star Search (CBS). When appearing on Star Search, Greg was spotted by Tom Griswold of the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom Radio Show. Greg has since established himself as a favorite guest on the show and starred on the Bob @ Tom Comedy Central Special. He also headlines the Friends of The Bob @ Tom Theater Tour, which included a stop at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival. A return appearance to the Montreal Comedy Festival along with the Halifax Comedy Festival and wild appearances on Country Music Televisions Comedy Stage, Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen and running for president on TOSH.O (Comedy Central) have added to Gregs popularity. Greg now lives in Los Angeles where he continues to infiltrate the TV and movie biz with the intention of buying a llama farm and a kitchen fish tank.
