Harmony Street with Mike Miller and Amanda Cohen (Uncle Eddie’s Ristorante- Jupiter)

Posted on July 9th, 2019 · Italian Jupiter Music/Events/Other · No Comments »

* Harmony Street with Mike Miller and Amanda Cohen.

Just made a reservation for 4- at Uncle Eddie’s Ristorante, 4050 South US Highway 1, Jupiter, Florida 33477, (561) 508-7799, uncleeddiesristorante.com….

This is round-two for Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats with Harmony Street at Uncle Eddie’s- our first outing was back on June 5th with a SRO crowd of over 200 “partying” with reasonably priced-delicious Italian food and assorted beverages while former Mystic, Mike Miller and Earth Angel, Amanda Cohen blew the house away with dead-on 40’s/50’s/60’s covers.

Let me wrap-up this tale by saying, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats loved our June 5th Harmony Street- Uncle Eddie’s “outing”- as it reminded us of the Brooklyn and Staten Island Italian joints that we used to frequent in the mid 70’s & early 80’s!

Really looking forward to round-2 on Wednesday night, July 17th…

You guys can check menu/prices/info uncleeddiesristorante.com.

***** Outback Steakhouse, 6030 Southwest 18th Street, Boca Raton, Florida 33433, (561) 338-6283.

Earlier today, I did a “writeup” on Olive Garden which is an Italian-chain with locations all over the United States. If you read my thoughts on Olive Garden, you know that I rated it “pretty good.” Anyway, I “got to thinking” about other chains that dot our South Florida area and decided to tell you about Outback Steak. If you don’t know about this chain (in a nutshell), it is a mid-price steakhouse which has the full “gamut” of other stuff like seafood and pastas. I am sure that sometime during the past 10 years-or-so, you have heard or seen an Outback commercial which has annoying actors with “heavy duty” Australian accents chatting-up the food. Nothing for nothing, but everytime I hear an Outback commercial I think of that (now late) crocodile guy who was always annoying the crap out of some animal on tv.

Anyway, over the years I have eaten in at Outback Steak more than 10 times. If you check, I am sure that you will find an Outback “somewhere” close to your home. Just so you know, those 10 “dinners” were split between the Outbacks in Boca Raton, Coral Springs and Delray Beach.

Outback’s food is not bad. Actually, for the price the steaks, seafood, appetizers, salads etc., are a very good value. The only problem that I have with this joint and IT IS A VERY BIG PROBLEM, is that literally every item on the menu is over-seasoned with SALT. When I eat at this joint, I make it my business, to tell the wait-staff to MAKE SURE THAT MY FOOD IS NOT OVER-SALTED.

If you like SALT…Outback is for you. If you don’t like SALT and are not inclined to tell the wait-staff your “preference”…Outback is not for you.

***** Charlie’s Mini Donuts & Coffee, 1023 East County Road 540A, Lakeland, Florida 33813, (863) 500-1414.

Got a real good donut joint for you guys to checkout, Charlie’s Mini Donuts & Coffee in Lakeland.

Simple tale to tell, something like 16 different mini cake donuts/coffe/tea menu, order at-pickup at counter, handful of inside tables.

Earlier this morning, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “discovered” Charlie’s Mini Donuts & Coffee and I gotta tell you that the freshly baked cake donuts were just what the doctor ordered. For you guys who right about now maybe wondering “Hey Jeff, what the hell were you and Mrs. Jeff Eats doing up in Lakeland-on the Monday morning following the long Thanksgiving Day Weekend?” Not that it’s any of your business- but Jeff Eats had an early business meeting with Publix’s CEO Todd Jones at Publix’s corporate headquarters at Publix’s Corporate Office, 3300 Publix Corporate Parkway, Lakeland, Florida 33811.

Anyway, like I said three seconds ago, the mini cake donuts were exactly what the doctor ordered, that’s assuming you’re into cake donuts, which Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats happen to really enjoy with our morning hot coffee. Just so you guys and Jeff Eats are straight with each other, if you’re not into cake donuts, Charlie’s Mini Donuts and Coffee is probably not gonna work for you- because there isn’t a yeast-raised donut insight!

Let me wrap Charie’s Mini Donuts & Coffee by saying that the joint is open Tuesday-Thursday 7am-8pm/ Friday-Saturday 7am-9pm/ Sunday 7am-3:30pm/ closed Monday, that you can check menu/prices/info at charlies-mini-donuts-coffee.business.site and that Charlie’s Mini Donuts & Coffee’s- Snickers Mini Donut is worth the price of admission alone!

The premier musical tribute to Carole King, TAPESTRY: THE CAROLE KING SONGBOOK, is BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND after a SOLD-OUT show last season!

“…Brilliant! With a stellar band, Suzanne brought the audience on a journey through the songbook of Carole King…featuring one of the most life-changing albums of our era.”

This show recreates the sound and vibe of a 1970’s Carole King concert experience following her legendary album, “Tapestry.” You will be transported back to the iconic image of her multi-million selling album of 1971.

Impeccable attention to detail is taken in recreating a respectful and accurate musical presentation of piano and vocals, just as they were. Suzanne’s performance will take you on a journey back to those great recordings. During the 70’s & 80’s, Carole played solo, with acoustic musicians, and a full band with horns during this period. This show is performed in any of those formats.

TAPESTRY not only presents the record-breaking, Grammy-winning album of the same name, but is a retrospective of the iconic songwriting team of Goffin and King, and her hits that continued into the 70’s. This prolific team wrote chart-topping hits for artists such as Aretha Franklin, Bobby Vee, The Beatles, James Taylor, the Drifters, Donny Osmond…and the list goes on.

You will feel the Earth Move under your feet with this show!

Happy 4th Of July!

Posted on July 4th, 2019 · Music/Events/Other · No Comments »

* Happy 4th Of July!

I recently read this story by Heinrich Böll. It’s simple, yet profound.

——-

An American businessman was standing at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish.

“How long did it take you to catch them?” The American asked.

“Only a little while.” The Mexican replied.

“Why don’t you stay out longer and catch more fish?” The American then asked.

“I have enough to support my family’s immediate needs.” The Mexican said.

“But,” The American then asked, “What do you do with the rest of your time?”

The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life, senor.”

The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds you could buy a bigger boat, and with the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats, and eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats.”

“Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the consumers, eventually opening your own can factory. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually NYC where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But senor, how long will this all take?”

To which the American replied, “15-20 years.”

“But what then, senor?”

The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions.”

“Millions, senor? Then what?”

The American said slowly, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.

Miller’s Ale House (Boca Raton)
Posted on March 24th, 2016 · American Boca Raton

***** Miller’s Ale House, 1200 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 988-9142.

Jeff Eats is gonna take a shot here and “think” that you guys know what Miller’s Ale House is! If not- sports bar chain that currently has 51 joints in Florida, 1 in Georgia, 2 in Illinois, 1 in Maryland, 1 in Massachusetts, 2 in Nevada, 3 in New Jersey, 6 in New York, 1 in Ohio, 4 in Pennsylvania. You can check millersalehouse.com for locations/menu/prices/operating hours/info.

Way-back on July 12, 2008 Jeff Eats told you-about the Miller’s Ale House in Jupiter, Florida. In 2008 I described the joint’s food as being okay and perfectly priced! That tale is reprinted down-below.

If you guys can keep a secret, since that 7/12/2008 tale printed (until this past Monday) Jeff Eats hadn’t been back “to” a Miller’s Ale House. No particular reason, just hadn’t been back!

Long story short, this past Monday- Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Son Jeff Eats and Daughter Jeff Eats ate dinner at the Miller’s Ale House on Yamato Road in Boca Raton- and I gotta tell you, we had an absolutely great-time. Rather than bother you guys telling you -that this location has a separate bar area/booth/table seating, more flat screen tvs than you can count, a covered out door patio with its own bar, a menu loaded with appetizers- burgers- salads-wings- entrees- desserts- beers- booze…let me tell you that the fried calamari, chicken Caesar salad, chicken nachos, breaded boneless garlic wings, grilled teriyaki wings, bbq baby back ribs, bacon cheeseburger, onion rings, French fries that we ordered were all delicious.

Look! I don’t know about your family, but getting the members of Jeff Eats’ immediate family to agree on virtually anything- is a monumental task. With that in mind, last night-all four of us agreed that the food killed, that the prices were super reasonable and that the service was as competent/pleasant as could be!

As I mentioned a few seconds ago, Jeff Eats hadn’t been to a Miller’s Ale House in something like 7 1/2 years! All I can tell you guys- the joint was absolute dynamite! If the other 71 Miller’s are like the Yamato Road outpost- you now know about a sports bar “chain” that really has its act together- and is an absolute must try!

Miller’s Ale House is open Sunday 11am-midnight, Monday-Saturday 11am-2am.

***** Miller’s Jupiter Ale House, 126 Center Street, Jupiter, Florida 33458 (561) 746-7620

Miller’s owns and operates a “ton” and I do mean a “ton” of sports-bars/ale houses in South Florida. Check millersalehouse.com for locations/menu/prices/hours.

Miller’s joints all take on a local name…in Boca Raton, the joint is the Boca Ale House…in Jupiter the joint is the Jupiter Ale House…in Coral Springs the joint is the Coral Springs Ale House…so on and so forth.

Over the years, I have eaten in a number of Miller’s South Florida locations…my most recent meal being in the Jupiter Ale House 3 weeks ago. All of the Ale Houses look alike…big bar area, tvs galore, small game room, wood booths. The menus are the same…tons of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and entrees…something for everybody. Just so you know, the food is okay- not great…(operative word) OKAY… The prices are cheap…that’s the game…like a 20 oz. bone-in porterhouse steak with french fries for something like 10 bucks.

I have to tell you, that every so often, I really enjoy a grizzly-steak covered in grilled onions and french fries drenched in ketchup that costs $9.99…Sort of reminds me of Tad’s Broiled Steaks (you- New Yorkers know what I am talking about) circa 1960.

The Ale Houses are open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Like I said, okay food priced perfectly.

By the way…some of you may not know, but Tad’s Broiled Steaks currently has a location at 152 West 34th Street, New York, New York 10001 (212) 630-0318…those were the days.
