Let me get the necessities out of the way…Mellow Mushroom is a very-casual pizza joint located in Delray Beach. Its menu is loaded with appetizers, salads, calzones, subs and pizzas…all at neighborhood pizza joint prices. The joint also has something like 100 beers, if that’s your game! A recent taste-test had me “sampling” a meatball ricotta pizza, greek salad, steak & cheese calzone and chicken parmesean sub. The food at this joint is absolutely dynamite.

Just so you know, Mellow Mushroom is a small-chain with joints in 15 states…there are a handful in Florida. The guys who own this company have a terrific concept…great food combined with a “retro-1960’s-70’s decor”…When I was eating at Mellow Mushroom, I “expected” Scott McKenzie, Grace Slick, John Densmore and H. Rap Brown to come walking in at any moment… Mellow Mushroom’s website www.mellowmushroom.com will provide you with menu/prices and loads of pictures “showing” that decor I just mentioned.

Real Casual. Great Food. Great Ambiance.

I highly recommend that you give Mellow Mushroom a try.

Laspada’s is a “sub-grinder-hoagie-heroes”!(or whatever you call them) joint. There are currently 3 South Florida locations…Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Davie and Coral Springs. The Lauderdale joint is the original location…I must have gotten stuff there at least 20 times…I have also been to the Coral Springs location twice…Never been to the Davie store.

The guys who own Laspada’s are “masters” at making phenomenal-fantastic hoagies. Take a look at Laspada’s website at www.laspadashoagies.com for menu/pricing…also take a look at the photos of the stores and sandwiches being made.

If you want to eat absolutely incredible stuff, then you absolutely want to get to a Laspada’s. The joints are open 7-days a week for lunch and dinner. Keep in mind, that there is very limited seating and the game is primarily takeout.

Three months ago my husband and I retired and moved from Plainview, New York to Hunter’s Run Country Club in Boynton Beach.
A couple of weeks ago, I came across jeffeats.com and love the site. You sure have a load of recommendations and I like the fact that you’re smart enough to know that food reviewing is a totally subjective call.

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you that Chris’ gyro wrap is off the chart-it is absolutely delicious. Just so you know, the original Chris’ review (5/21/10) has a different address listed-when Jeff Eats first “tried” Chris’ it was a small hole in the wall, the new location is in the same shopping center and seats a ton of people inside and on an outdoor patio. Without any hesitation, Jeff Eats will tell you, Chris’ Taverna is one of the best Greek restaurants in South Florida.

Chris’ Taverna is a GREEK RESTAURANT…maybe 20 formica tables inside, 20 outside. You can order at/pickup at the counter…or you can be fancy and have a waitress/waiter take care of you. Menu/prices/loads of photos at www.christaverna.com. This is strictly a shorts/tee shirt ensemble kinda-joint.

Now…and I really mean this, outrageously delicious food. I have to rank the Greek salad ($8.95), gyro entree ($11.95-2 sides), souvlaki entree ($11.95-2 sides), grilled baby lamb chops entree ($20.95, 5 chops-2 sides) right up there with the best that I’ve had in a Greek joint.

Really, that simple.

Got a real good diner for you guys to checkout, @ The Diner in Orlando.

Real simple concept working here- breakfast/lunch menu, open 7 days a week 7am-3pm, indoor booth-table—counter seating/handful of outdoor tables.

Yeserday morning, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Brother Jeff Eats, Sister-In-Law Jeff Eats, Niece Jeff Eats and Nephew Jeff Eats- “discovered” @ The Diner and I gotta tell you guys- the joint blew us away! If you are a reincarnated truck-driver like old Jeff Eats is, you will absolutely-positively love this joint. Huge breakfast menu, burgers, french fries drowned in ketchup, onion rings, meat-loaf, daily specials, vinyl booths, formica tables, counter seating…a throw-back to the days when Ike was calling the shots…and Ray Kroc hadn’t yet figured out assembly-line burgers.

Jack’s is open 7 days a week 24 hours a day.

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have been eating at Tropical Acres Steakhouse for years. The joint’s food is delicious, its wait-staff is as pleasant as can be and its prices are super reasonable!

Jeff Eats first told you guys about Tropical Acres in September, 2008- that “tale” is reprinted down-below! If you haven’t yet eaten there GO!- I kinda think you won’t be disappointed!

A few reviews ago, we discussed the never-ending search to find “moderately” priced steakhouses (Manero’s 8/28/08 & Raindancer 8/29/08) that serve great food at reasonable prices and have waiters-waitresses who don’t treat you like crap…say hello to Tropical Acres which has been in business since 1949. Checkout this joint’s website at www.tropicalacres.com for menu/prices/details.

Tropical Acres has terrific food…steaks, seafood, not to mention a handful of Italian dishes. Great wait-staff…and prices that are something like 50% less than those charged by the Robber Barons…they and you know who they are. The joint is just fancy enough to warrant your throwing on a pair of long-pants, but I think that shorts won’t get you “shown” the door.

Like I said before, the joint has been around since 1949, so just maybe it has been doing something right. Tropical Acres is open 7 days a week from 4:30pm-10pm…please note that it is closed on Sundays, July-October.
