***** Kennesaw Cold Pressed Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit Juice.

If you’re into fresh squeezed unpasteurized grapefruit juice- then you gotta try Kennesaw Cold Pressed Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit Juice..

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, this grapefruit juice is dynamite.

Maybe it’s a psychological thing- but my recent “discovery” of Kennesaw’s Cold Pressed Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit Juice- has Jeff Eats totally convinced that “cold pressed” tastes much better than Kennesaw’s Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit Juice does- which Jeff Eats had-faithfully been drinking every morning for God only knows how many years! Like I said, maybe it’s a psychological thing…

Last week, Jeff Eats “discovered” this $5.99- 64 oz absolute must try grand-slam delicious grapefruit juice at Joseph’s Classic Market, 6000 Glades Road, Boca Raton,Florida 33431,(561) 347-2314.

You guys can check josephsclassicmarket.com for other Joseph’s locations. Also check kennesawjuice.com for other retail locations.

Like I said before, maybe it’s a psychological thing…that said, checkout what Life Bistro at lifebistroatl.com has to say on the matter…

What is the Difference Between Cold Press Juicing and Centrifugal Juicing?

While juicing is not a new concept, in recent years it has gained much popularity, so much so that the juice bar business is booming. People are constantly searching for an effective way to improve their well-being, and with the many vitamins and benefits that juices provide, juicing has proven to be quite the popular choice.
Now whether you are new to the juicing world or have been around for quite some time, you may have once wondered what is cold press juicing? What is centrifugal juicing? And what is the difference between those two?
I know we have. And so we’ve done the research to explain to you the difference between cold press juicing and centrifugal juicing, and which one offers more benefits.
Cold Press Juicing
Juicing in itself is the act of crushing and grinding fruits and vegetables to extract juice from them. Most of us have juiced before when we made fresh orange juice or lemonade. Some harder fruits and vegetables such as celery require a juicer.
Cold press juicing is presumably the most commonly described type of juicing and is considered one of the best ways due to the lack of heat used in the process. Cold press juicing uses a method that does not involve high heat and therefore preserves the nutrients and vitamins of the ingredients. Cold press juicers use a hydraulic press and take a longer time to extract the juice than traditional juicers. The process is more time and labor-intensive, but it does produce vitamin and nutrient-filled juice without causing oxidization to the fruits.
Centrifugal Juicing
Centrifugal juicing is what you would refer to as the traditional juicing method. This method utilizes high spinning blades and a strainer which separates the juice from the pulp of the fruit and vegetables. This method not only creates a lot of noise, similar to a blender but also creates a lot of heat that causes oxidization to the ingredients. This high heat also results in the loss of nutrients and vitamins, therefore reducing the benefits that juicing can provide.
Centrifugal juicers are oftentimes the juices easily found in grocery stores, they are cheaper in cost, and do not require the same amount of time to produce. When shopping for a juicer it is important to be able to distinguish between cold press juicers and regular centrifugal juicers, as those are the more commonly available ones.
Benefits of Cold Pressed Juice
Similarly, to eating fruits and vegetables, juicing them provides you with the nutrients and vitamins that they contain, only in liquid form. Since cold-pressed juices contain more of those nutrients, due to the lack of heat and oxidization, they are more beneficial.
Some potential benefits of juice are that it is easy to digest, as it does not contain the fiber from the pulp. Some fiber is insoluble and therefore causes a strain on our digestive system when eating fruit. Drinking juice instead, is much easier for our body to digest and the nutrients are more easily absorbed. Soluble fiber, however, is still present in most juices and provides you with the benefits that fiber commonly does.
Cold-pressed juices improve your overall health by providing you with the nutrients that your body requires to operate at optimal levels. Eating the number of fruits and vegetables necessary to provide your organs with the vitamins it requires can prove to be quite difficult. Not only does it require you to eat fruits and vegetables all day long but also it requires high quantities of those foods to be consumed. Juicing gets rid of the less advantageous parts of the fruit, while preserving its nutritional value, and allows you to create different combinations tailored to your needs. Rather than eating one fruit or vegetable, you can create a blend of multiple healthy fruits and enjoy the benefits they provide all in one glass.
If those benefits are not enough to convince you to give cold-pressed juices a shot, maybe the amazing taste will. Cold press juice not only preserves the nutrients of the fruits but also their fresh taste. The only potential drawback to cold-pressed juices are their short shelf-life, but that is intended to preserve the freshness of them and the great taste. Without the added heat or preservatives that most grocery store-bought juices have, cold-pressed juices taste refreshingly delicious. You can also customize it to the flavor that best suits you, and the taste of vegetables can easily be hidden by the potent flavors of many fruits.
Benefits of Centrifugal Juicer
While not as beneficial as cold-pressed juices, centrifugal juicers also carry some advantages to them. Regardless of the addition of heat and oxygen, consuming any form of fresh fruit juice is beneficial to your health. So while you may not be ingesting the high amounts of vitamins and nutrients that were extracted from the fruit, you are still caring for your health by consuming some.
Centrifugal juicer’s juices tend to have a longer shelf life and they do not take as long to make, making them a quick and easy process for beginners. The juicers are also easier to clean up, and centrifugal juices are more easily available in most stores and restaurants. It is convenient for those that do not want to spend the great length of time cold-press juicing requires.
Which Type of Juice is Right for Me?
Whether you choose cold-pressed juices or centrifugal juices is entirely a personal decision Taking into consideration what we have researched, cold-pressed juices are able to provide you with more nutritional benefits, while centrifugal juices are a more time-efficient option. If you are someone that struggles to fit the time to juice into your already busy day, then centrifugal juicing might be the right option for you. While if you are someone that values the quality of the product more than the time saved, then col pressed juices would be our recommendation.

***** Granger’s Bar & Grill, 215 NE 6th Avenue, Delray Beach Florida (561) 276-7881.

Granger’s is a 38 seat bar-grill located on Federal Highway. The joint has something like 10 seats at the bar and a handful of booths and tables…one waitress-one busgirl-3 in the kitchen and that’s the whole shooting match. By the way, the waitress and busgirl are also the bartenders. The bathrooms are out-houses in the parking lot.

Granger’s food is absolutely great. Appetizers, burgers, salads, main dishes everything is delicious. How that little kitchen bangs out so much delicious food is beyond me, but in the 30-40 times that I have eaten at Granger’s everything was right on the money.

I am telling you, that this little joint is a MUST for you. Wear tee shirt/shorts so you don’t look stupid. The joint is open Monday-Saturday for lunch and dinner. The prices are also dirt cheap and if you are there on a Saturday Night you have to try the brick of meatloaf that is one of this joint’s specialities.

From the outside, Granger’s looks like a D U M P. Try it, you will love it.

***** Basilico’s Original Hand-Tossed Pizza, 9140 Forest Hill Boulevard, Wellington, Florida 33411, (561) 333-4949.

Last night, Jeff Eats took-out from red sauce Italian joint… Basilico’s Original Hand-Tossed Pizza in Wellington. and I gotta tell you, this restaurant makes some really delicious stuff.

Real simple concept, order at the counter/takeout…or the food is delivered to something like 6 inside booths/handful of outside tables. By the way, the restaurant is located in a very quaint cool looking “New England” style strip-center…which also has a Chinese joint, a Dunkin’ Donuts, an ice cream store, a custom cake- making store, a liquor store–you won’t think- you’re in Florida! Real interesting, in addition to ice cream and yogurt-the ice cream store sells fresh orange juice quarts/gallons-candy by the pound, and has a whole area for fresh flowers…the Chinese joint which is basically a takeout has 4 large 6- seat booths-for those who want to eat-in. Like I said 1 second ago, the strip center has a real different feel to it!

Anyway…

Jeff Eats “got to” Basilico’s around 6:30pm last night and there was something like 8 guys behind the counter making pizzas etc. and 2 young ladies at the register. In the 25 minutes or so that I waited for my order, every booth inside was taken and I watched numerous pickups and phone orders being taken…I didn’t notice anyone eating outside.

Basilico’s menu is loaded with appetizers, salads, pizzas, pastas, strombolis, calzones, hot/cold subs, entrees. You can check its menu/prices at basilicospizza.com.

Ordered items included large 16″ pizza ($9.99), Chicken parmesan sub ($7.99), sausage & peppers stromboli ($6.79), eggplant parmesan entrée (pasta side/garlic breadsticks- $10.59) and like I said 3 seconds ago, the stuff was really delicious.

Look!

Jeff Eats has been to his fair share of red sauce Italian joints down here in south Florida and- this Basilico’s joint is a huge winner. The food was really-solid, the prices CHEAP (I believe I’m suppose to say inexpensive or very reasonable)-trust me, Basilico’s gives you a ton of food for cheap-money-and the food isn’t crap quality!

Let me wrap this up for you, if Basilico’s was by my house (which unfortunately it isn’t) Jeff Eats would definitely be a very steady customer.

Basilico’s Original Hand-Tossed Pizza is open 7 days a week.

Hey Jeff!

Three months ago my husband and I retired and moved from Plainview, New York to Hunter’s Run Country Club in Boynton Beach.
A couple of weeks ago, I came across jeffeats.com and love the site. You sure have a load of recommendations and I like the fact that you’re smart enough to know that food reviewing is a totally subjective call.
Being retired we are really enjoy eating out almost every night. With that in mind, what’s your best call on a CASUAL GREEK joint within a reasonable driving distance of Hunter’s Run?
Looking forward to following jeffeats.com for years to come.

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you that Chris’ gyro wrap is off the chart-it is absolutely delicious. Just so you know, the original Chris’ review (5/21/10) has a different address listed-when Jeff Eats first “tried” Chris’ it was a small hole in the wall, the new location is in the same shopping center and seats a ton of people inside and on an outdoor patio. Now…and I really mean this, outrageously delicious food. I have to rank the Greek salad ($8.95), gyro entree ($11.95-2 sides), souvlaki entree ($11.95-2 sides), grilled baby lamb chops entree ($20.95, 5 chops-2 sides) right up there with the best that I’ve had in a Greek joint.

Really, that simple.

Regular, Jeff Eats’ readers know that…I love a good pizza. I don’t care if it’s brick-oven, wood oven, coal oven, this oven or that oven…just as long as it tastes good. You also do know that I speak fluent Italian…”Give me two slices and a large Coke.”…don’t you? Over the past 3-years or so, South Florida has been “hit” with a ton of new pizza joints which play the “coal oven-chicken wings” card…guys like Anthony’s, Coal Mine, Carolina’s, Mona Lisa, just to name a few…and by in large, they are all pretty decent… of course, some are better than others…that’s why Jeff Eats is here.

Anyway…last night, I gave Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza in Boca Raton a shot. The joint which has been open for something like 3 months… has indoor seating for about 50 and maybe 10 outside. The menu has 4 appetizers, chicken wings, escarole & beans, eggplant rollatini and sauteed broccoli rabe & sausage…2 salads, Italian and caesar…loads of coal/wood cooked pizzas…2 desserts, cheesecake and cannoli…beer and soda by the bottle.

Let’s make this review easy. I had an Italian salad, margherita/ricotta pizza, chicken wings. The food was delicious. The salad was cold, fresh, crisp… The chicken wings were seasoned with garlic and carmalize onion, The pizza was thin crusted, crisp, perfectly well-done, right on the money sweet sauce…As for service, pleasant as can be…Price-wise, small wings (10) $9.95, salad which could have feed 3 ($10.95), pizzas–depending on what you order (that’s obvious) start at- small ($13.95)-large ($17.95).

Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza is a really good coal-oven pizza/chicken joint. I enjoyed its food and casual “hole in the wall” atmosphere. By the way, you can check Tucci’s menu/prices at www.tuccispizza.com.

Tucci’s is open for lunch & dinner Tuesday-Sunday…the joint is closed on Monday.

Postal Service Honors Yankees Legend Yogi Berra With Forever Stamp

All-Star Baseball Player Yogi Berra Forever Stamp

LITTLE FALLS, NJ — The U.S. Postal Service issued the Yogi Berra stamp today. This Forever stamp was dedicated during a ceremony at the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center in Little Falls, NJ, and is now being sold at Post Office locations nationwide and online at usps.com/yogiberrastamp.

News about the stamp is being shared on social media using the hashtags #YogiBerraStamp and #BaseballStamps. Followers of the Postal Service’s Facebook and Twitter pages can view the ceremony live on facebook.com/USPS and twitter.com/usps. An additional video will be posted two hours after the ceremony providing more information and insights in telling the story of the stamp subject.

“We hope this stamp will serve as a reminder of Yogi’s larger than life personality — both on and off the field,” said Ron A. Bloom, chairman, U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors.

Bloom was joined for the ceremony by Bob Costas, Emmy Award-winning sportscaster; and Larry, Tim and Dale Berra, sons of Yogi Berra. The ceremony can be viewed on the Postal Service Facebook and Twitter pages.

“The Berra family wishes to thank the U.S. Postal Service for honoring our father with a Forever stamp for his prowess as a baseball icon who demonstrated the right way to earn the respect of family, friends, competitors and people everywhere,” the family said in a statement.

Background

Yogi Berra was one of the greatest Major League Baseball players of all-time. He won three American League MVP awards, was an 18-time MLB All-Star and played in the World Series championship in 14 of his 18 seasons in Yankees pinstripes.

Born Lawrence Peter Berra, he earned his famous nickname while playing American Legion baseball. Legend has it that Berra and his teammates went to the movies, where they saw a travelogue about India. Noticing that Berra sat waiting to bat with legs and arms folded in the same fashion as the yogis on the screen, one of his teammates decided everyone should call Berra “Yogi.”

The Yankees signed Berra to a minor league contract in 1942. After playing one season, he was drafted and served in the Navy during World War II serving as part of the D-Day invasion and eventually earning a Purple Heart. Discharged in May of 1946, Berra played with the Yankees for the final week of the season. He hit the first of his 358 Major League home runs in his second time at bat. The next season, he won the first of his World Series rings.

A talented athlete, Berra became almost as well known for his paradoxical sayings, Yogi-isms — contradictory bits of logic and humor — as for his skill on the baseball diamond. “I never said everything I said,” Berra conceded, but several quotes attributed to him appear in Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations.

After retiring as a Yankees player in 1963, Berra began a second career as a manager and coach, taking two teams to the World Series as manager.

Berra was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972 and was a posthumous recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award.

Art director Antonio Alcalá designed the stamp with original art by Charles Chaisson and lettering by Michael Doret.

The Yogi Berra stamp is being issued as a Forever stamp in panes of 20. These Forever stamps will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1‑ounce price.

A pictorial postmark of the designated first-day-of-issue city, Little Falls, NJ, is available at usps.com/shopstamps.

Customers may purchase stamps and other philatelic products through the Postal Store at usps.com/shopstamps, by calling 844-737-7826, by mail through USA Philatelic, or at Post Office locations nationwide.

Yogi Berra passed away last night at the age of 90.

Now real fast, name the New York Yankees’ current starting catcher. Or how about the name of the Yankees’ current starting left-fielder!

Times sure have changed.

Make sure that you eat those hot dogs with mustard and sauerkraut, French fries with loads of ketchup, pizza slices- and drink those chocolate shakes…because I’m pretty sure that- you only get to go around once!

Yogi Berra 1925-2015: Sports world mourns the loss of baseball icon Yogi Berra
Yogi Berra: A celebration of baseball, life and a man’s legacy of words Jeff Passan By Jeff Passan

One of the most beautiful lives baseball has known, full of accomplishment and achievement, of kindness and compassion, of malapropism and solecism, ended Tuesday night. Yogi Berra died at 90 and took with him a legacy inimitable in every way imaginable. More than his play on the field, his words defined him and will continue to do so long after his passing. Because nobody knew how to mangle the English language as gloriously – and prophetically – as Lawrence Peter Berra.

“When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”

Born to immigrants in St. Louis, storming the beach at Normandy, shot later in World War II, behind the plate for the New York Yankees, in the dugout for them and the New York Mets, kibitzing around New Jersey with his beloved wife, Carmen, Yogi Berra bebopped from place to place, moment to moment, his presence a vortex. Berra’s pull was gravitational, and it made his famous quotes all the more powerful. People didn’t latch on to what Berra said because of what he did. They found meaning in his words because of who he was. For the pocket philosopher who tries to translate Yogi-isms, this one – which sprung from a split road that ended up at his home on either path – is quite simple: Trust yourself.

“Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.”

Yogi Berra was a mythical creature: the eminently likeable Yankee. He spent almost his entire career in pinstripes, save for four games as a player-coach with the Mets, and on teams with Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle and Phil Rizzuto and Whitey Ford and Roger Maris, he was the lifeblood, the spiritual essence, the lunch-pail figure so beloved he inspired a cartoon character who loved nothing more than pilfering a good lunch. Never did Berra bother to correct his math here, though perhaps that was intentional. To do what he did for as long as he did may well have taken more than 100 percent.

“It’s like déjà vu all over again.”

Every year, it was almost the same. Yogi Berra would hit somewhere in the neighborhood of .300, get on base about 36 percent of the time, hit at least 20 home runs, drive in around 100 runs, strike out 20-something times and make the All-Star team long before it became a participation-trophy event. Fifteen straight times Berra was an All-Star, even toward the end of his career, long after the three MVP awards and seven top-four finishes. Every spring he would show up a year older, a step slower, a hair thinner, and he’d still be Yogi, forever Yogi.

“I always thought that record would stand until it was broken.”

The record will stand forever. Of every great thing Yogi Berra did on a baseball field – 358 home runs, 1,430 RBIs, a .285/.348/.482 line while regularly catching 140 games a season and 117 times doing so in both ends of a doubleheader – he won 10 World Series rings, a number that even though it was easier in the ’40s and ’50s and ’60s remains unfathomable today. Over his 19 seasons, Berra played in 14 World Series, a reflection not just of how the Yankees lorded over the sport but Berra’s central role. For the most successful franchise in sports history, he participated in more success than anyone.

“You can observe a lot just by watching.”

For all of George Steinbrenner’s brilliance as an owner, his stubbornness was poisonous, and when he fired Yogi Berra 16 games into the 1985 season, something was missing from the Bronx. By insulting and rejecting Berra, the Yankees actively choosing a life without him was like a shoe shunning its laces, a table snubbing its legs, a light fixture discarding its bulb. During the return of the Yankees’ glory days in 1996, the knowledge that the bridge separating Berra and the Yankees in reality was a few miles but in his mind was a million cast sadness and emptiness on this new era. Berra kept waiting and waiting and waiting for an apology, and when Steinbrenner acceded, it felt almost like an international peace accord. The Yankees held Yogi Berra Day in 1999, and for the next 15 years, health permitting, he was the team’s most visible legend. Ultimately, he knew life with the Yankees and life without them, and he knew which made him happiest.

“I never said most of the things I said.”

Time exaggerates words, and Yogi Berra’s existence was a huge game of telephone. He probably said some of the things attributed to him. He probably didn’t say others. Never did he go out of his way to correct the ledger, though, because he knew something that resonated far deeper than one would expect from someone of chronic misspokenness: The words fit who we wanted him to be, and as important as he was to his sprawling Berra clan, Yogi was also the people’s, and he’d always be.

“You should always go to other people’s funerals. Otherwise, they won’t come to yours.”

They’ll come to his. They’ll come in droves, from all five boroughs and every corner of Jersey, from the rest of the northeast and the southeast and stretching across the United States, from remote places in the world so far away it seems impossible that one man’s web of influence could reach so many. They’ll come not just because he came to theirs, but because Yogi Berra’s is a life well worth celebrating.

“It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”

It’s over. It’s sad because we saw Yogi Berra slow down in recent years, and when someone whose wondrous mind always worked with a lilt of childishness loses that to old age it’s a harrowing reminder of fallibility and the vagaries of time. If it allows everyone across the game and the country and the world to remember him, though, to spread the wit and wisdom, then it dovetails with how he spent his 90 years. As a kid, Berra’s friends started calling him Yogi because how he sat resembled a yoga practitioner, and it stuck, even as he grew into a 5-foot-7, 185-pound squat, inflexible bowling ball. It fit, too, somehow, maybe because of the connotation of spirituality and philosophy and the unique place in history Berra occupies. He took the fork and ended up here, exactly where he belongs.
