Got a real good Chinese/Thai joint for you guys to check out- Lisa’s Kitchen in Boca Raton.

Real simple tale to tell…last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff “discovered” Lisa’s Kitchen and I gotta tell you that the wonton soup/ egg rolls/ bar-b-q spare ribs/ pepper steak/ General Tao’s chicken/ shrimp with black bean sauce/ roast pork fried rice that we took-out were all right on the money! Just so you know, Lisa’s Kitchen is basically a take-out but if you insist on eating there- it has a handful of tables that will work for you!

As I mentioned above, Lisa’s Kitchen has both Chinese and Thai stuff….

Lisa’s Kitchen- Business Hours

Let me wrap Lisa’s Kitchen-up by saying, that the joint was immaculate, the staff was as pleasant as could be, its food was delicious and its nice sized portions were neighborhood Chinese take-out priced! Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, I kinda think that I know my Brooklyn Jewish American Chinese Food- and I’m telling you, Lisa’s Kitchen is “cooking” with top-notch fresh ingredients!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats are definitely going to be real steady-customers!

***** Bobby Rubino’s, 2501 North Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, Florida 33064, (954) 781-7550.

Haven’t really got the time or inclination to tell you Bobby Rubino’s story…suffice it to say, Bobby Rubino use to work for Tony Roma’s which was a South Florida bbq ribs/chicken chain, then Bobby Rubino in 1978 opened his own bbq ribs/chicken joint naming it Bobby Rubino’s—over the years Bobby and Tony were huge competitors each with loads of South Florida locations…not sure on Tony Roma’s dimished numbers—but today, there is only one Bobby Rubino’s location left and it’s-in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Now…

For whatever it’s worth, for something like 30 years—old Jeff Eats has been a huge Bobby Rubino’s fan…delicious sweet sauced ribs/chicken, french fries, onion rings, corn—never empty soda glasses.

Real simple…loads of food at really reasonable prices. If your looking for upscale-gourmet-fancy schmancy this joint ain’t for you. Just so we are straight, the last outpost is kinda on the dated 1970’s looking side–so like Jeff Eats said 2 seconds ago, fancy schmancy is a definite no-no here.

Anyway…

If Bobby Rubino’s sounds like something that might interest you, do yourself a GIGANTIC FAVOR and go to its website www.bobbyrubinos.com—you’ll find menu/prices, you’ll also find a bunch of coupons that will allow you to literally eat like a pig for virtually nothing.

In all fairness to you guys, Jeff Eats in recent years had lost “contact” with Bobby Rubino’s—and it was Rubino’s recent advertisement/coupons in the Sun Sentinel that reunited “us.”

To wrap this one up…my favorite coupon:

DINNER FOR 2 -$20 plus 1 beverage purchase.
Includes:
1 appetizer–onion loaf
2 entrees–full rack babyback ribs or rib/chicken combo
2 sides
1 dessert

Bobby Rubino’s is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

Real easy story here…the bbq pork spareribs will have you thinking that it’s 1957 and -you got them from Joy Fong’s on Avenue J & Coney Island Avenue, Brooklyn. Outstanding ribs- by the way, you guys can insert the name of your “favorite” Jewish American Chinese Restaurant circa 1950’s-1960’s in place of Joy Fong’s, if you so desire. For you “youngsters” out there, 70’s-2014 will also work.

Don’t ask! Hong Kong Palace a “takeout only” Chinese joint has been around for something like 30 years and although it’s about 6 minutes from my house, I didn’t know that it existed until last night around 7:30pm. Mrs. Jeff Eats couldn’t “find” a red paper party bag that she needed at Party Supermarket so she dragged me to Party City (where she normally doesn’t shop) in her quest for that red paper party bag…and low and behold, while she was in Party City, I just happened to “notice” Hong Kong Palace which is right next door. Twenty minutes later…she had the red paper party bag and I had two plastic bags filled with…wonton soup, egg rolls, pan fried dumplings, white rice, bbq ribs, shrimp with lobster sauce, mu shu pork, sweet & sour chicken, beef with broccoli, a handful of fortune cookies.

You know what good fortune is? Well, a quest for a red paper party bag—resulted in me coming-upon a good Chinese takeout. Just for the record, the bbq ribs were 6-of the best that I’ve had in a very long time. Everything “else” was A-Ok, but nothing to get hysterical about. The beautiful part of this story, is I now know as do you, where you can get absolutely delicious Chinese bbq ribs.

You can check menu/prices at www.hongkongpalacebocaraton.com.

Hong Kong Palace is open Monday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-10:30pm, Sunday, 2:30pm-10pm. If you pay cash over $15-$25-$40 they throw some items like spring rolls, egg rolls, krab rangoon, fried rice in the bag for nothing. One other thing, Party City has red paper party bags for $1.99 and is open Monday-Wednesday 9:30am-8:30pm, Thursday-Friday 9:30am-9:00pm, Saturday 8:30am-8:30pm, Sunday 10am-6:00pm.

***** Hong Kong City BBQ, 5301 North State Road 7, Tamarac, Florida 33319, (954) 777-3832.

Got a real-good Chinese joint for you…Hong Kong City BBQ in Tamarac.

The beautiful thing about Hong Kong City BBQ is that nobody in your car is gonna bitch about going there. The reason Jeff Eats says that, the joint has dim sum, Brooklyn-Jewish-American Chinese food circa 1957 and authentic Chinese food (whatever that is?).

Anyway,

A party of 6-of us recently gave Hong Kong City BBQ a shot and I gotta tell you, the food was right on the money.

Let me give you a fast run down of what was ordered…
House Wonton Soup.
Egg Drop Soup.
Chicken Corn Soup.
Pan Fried Pot Stickers.
BBQ Roasted Honey Roasted Spareribs.
BBQ Roasted 1/2 Duck.
Shrimp Pan Fried Noodles.
Roast Pork Fried Rice.
Peking Pork Chops.
Sweet & Sour Pork.
Steam Whole Tilapia.
Lobster Cantonese.

Now, nothing for nothing–not one person in our party “didn’t find what to eat” and everyone agreed that the food was really good. The prices are “neighborhood” Chinese joint prices, the décor is neighborhood Chinese joint décor. Playing to its name–Hong King City BBQ (with the emphasis on BBQ) the joint has some bbq chickens/ducks/pigs hanging over the front counter–which gives the joint a nice New York City Chinatown Dump feel.

You guys know that Jeff Eats really isn’t into doing “pecking orders”…that said, the House Wonton Soup, BBQ Honey Roasted Spareribs, Peking Pork Chops and Sweet & Sour Pork were at the top of my list. Like I said before, everything was really good, but the stuff I just mentioned–was really-really good.

I’m just guessing here, but I’m thinking that some of you guys may want to know: Does Hong Kong City BBQ have any “Early Bird” deals? Yes “Virginia”-from 3pm-7pm- 7 days a week Hong Kong City BBQ has an Early Bird which gets you–soup/egg roll/white or fried rice/entrée.

Let me wrap this one up,

Jeff Eats really enjoyed Hong Kong City BBQ. Give this joint a shot- I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

You can check menu/other stuff at http://www.hkcitybbq.com.

Hong Kong City BBQ is open Monday-Friday 11am-11pm, Saturday-Sunday 10:30am-11pm
