Jeff Eats first “reviewed” The Boys Farmers Market on 5/6/2009.

That review is reprinted below.

It is now some 5 1/2 years later- and I just wanted to tell -new as well as old- Jeff Eats’ readers that I LOVE this joint-and if you live or work anywhere-near The Boys Farmers Market make it your business to shop there…trust me, you will be thrilled that you did!

***** The Boys Farmers Market, 14378 Military Trail, Delray Beach, Florida 33484 (561) 496-8123.

If you can “handle” its parking-lot…with senior citizens “backing in and backing out” non-stop…The Boys Farmers Market is an absolutely great place to shop for fruits, fresh squeezed juices, vegetables, baked goods, cheeses, wines, candies, seafood, meats, coffees and prepared chicken/seafood/meat dishes.

Just guessing here, but The Boys’ probably has something like 30,000 square feet of indoor space jammed with top quality FOOD. All the free samples that you’d like…and everything sold, runs circles around joints like Publix, Winn Dixie and Albertsons, not to mention-probably cheaper.

My family has been shopping at The Boys Farmers Market for years…and I have been amazed by two things…namely, that we have never been involved in a fender-bender in its parking lot & the great stuff that it sells.

The Boys has its own bakery, squeezes its own juices and prepares its own “take out” food. This joint is an absolute-winner. If you live in the Delray Beach area, you probably already know about The Boys…for those of you who don’t, you got to go shopping there…just be careful in the parking lot.

The Boys Farmers Market is open 7 days a week.

* Ronnie Spector, Leader of The Ronettes and ’60s Icon, Dies at 78.

Personally I rate ‘Be My Baby’ by The Ronettes as the best song ever recorded by a female vocal group!

Family Statement on the Passing of Ronnie Spector:

Our beloved earth angel, Ronnie, peacefully left this world today after a brief battle with cancer. She was with family and in the arms of her husband, Jonathan.

Ronnie lived her life with a twinkle in her eye, a spunky attitude, a wicked sense of humor and a smile on her face. She was filled with love and gratitude.

Her joyful sound, playful nature and magical presence will live on in all who knew, heard or saw her.

In lieu of flowers, Ronnie requested that donations be made to your local women’s shelter or to the American Indian College Fund.

A celebration of Ronnie’s life and music will be announced in the future.

The family respectfully asks for privacy at this time.

Why You Should Eat Pistachio Nuts!

* Why You Should Eat Pistachio Nuts!

While Jeff Eats is working on finding you guys another delicious “greasy spoon” to eat-at… printed below is an article “What Are the Benefits of Eating Pistachio Nuts” which I recently read on Healthy Eating (healthyeating.sfgate.com).

Just for the record, Jeff Eats has been a huge fan of pistachio nuts-for like forever…I absolutely love the little suckers. Being a pistachio-expert- if you are smart, never buy “unshelled” nuts-the reason, you’ll eat so many of them- that you’ll end up looking like a big house–waste some time opening the nuts with your fingers or teeth and you’ll eat less of them-of course you may have to see a dentist, but in life, nothing comes easy. Jeff Eats usually catches his pistachio nuts at Costco or Publix-figure something like 9 bucks a pound. Lastly, if anyone can explain to me- why way back as a kid-“we” had to “eat” pistachio nuts covered in red dye which ended up all over our fingers and mouths–write Jeff Eats at devon3746@aol.com. By the way, I know that red dye was used for cosmetic reasons…but jeffeats.com likes to think of itself as an “interactive playground” so play away…

Anyway,

Enough stalling. here’s that article and Jeff Eats will have like I said before -a real nice greasy spoon to tell you about in a day or so…
*****

Pistachios make for a healthy snack.

Nuts are a popular snack and an ingredient in both sweet treats and main dishes. If you like to eat nuts, pistachios are one of the healthier options. They are filled with essential nutrients and have a number of health benefits, helping you to control your body weight and lowering your risk for heart problems.

Nutrition

Pistachios contain fewer calories and more potassium and vitamin K per serving than other nuts. A 1-ounce serving of dry-roasted pistachios contains 160 calories, 6 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber and 15 grams of fat, including only 2 grams of saturated fat. It also provides you with 25 percent of the daily value for vitamin B-6, 15 percent of the daily value for thiamine and phosphorus and 10 percent of the daily value for magnesium.

Heart Health

Snacking on pistachios may help lower your cholesterol. Study participants who consumed a low-calorie diet with either 10 percent of their total calories or 20 percent of their total calories in the form of pistachios for four weeks lowered their cholesterol more than participants who followed the Step 1 diet for lowering cholesterol, according to a study published in the “American Journal of Clinical Nutrition” in September 2008. Pistachios also contain l-arginine, which can make the lining of your arteries more flexible and make it less likely you will develop blood clots that could cause a heart attack, and vitamin E, which makes it less likely your arteries will become clogged with plaque, notes MayoClinic.com.

Weight Management

If you like snacking on nuts, you can control your weight by limiting your portions. The fiber content of the nuts may make them more filling, helping you to eat fewer calories later on in the day. A study published in the “Journal of the American College of Nutrition” in June 2010 found that participants who consumed 240 calories worth of pistachios for 12 weeks lowered their body mass indexes and triglyceride levels more than those who consumed 220 calories worth of pretzels.

Considerations

Although most of the fat in pistachios is the healthy unsaturated type, they still contain a lot of calories so you should only eat them in moderation. A study published in 2011 in “Appetite” found that participants ate fewer pistachios if they ate those that were still in the shells instead of shelled pistachios. If you like to snack on pistachios, this can prevent you from eating too many. Choose pistachios that are unsalted to help minimize your salt intake.

* 7 Reasons Why You Should Be Eating Pineapple.

Long tale short,

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have been shopping at The Boys Farmers Market in Delray Beach for years.

For what it’s worth, I always noticed but never really paid attention to the fact- that all day long, it has a guy/gal in a certain area, cutting and bagging fresh pineapples.

Anyway, about 3 months ago, I did some research-on PINEAPPLE…suffice it to say, a real eye opener!

Down below is one of the articles I found….it kinda sums-up just maybe-why you should consider “adding” pineapple to your every day diet.

By the way, no bs-here, for the past 3 months- I’ve been eating a cup or two of fresh pineapple on a daily basis- and not even once, have I had a bout-of indigestion- which prior to my pineapple “regiment” use to hit me at least 2-3 times a week!
