One day a man, who had been stranded on a desert island for over ten years sees an unusual speck on the horizon.

“It’s certainly not a ship”, he thinks to himself.

As the speck gets closer and closer he begins to rule out the possibilities of a small boat, then even a raft.

Suddenly, emerging from the surf, comes a drop dead gorgeous blonde woman wearing a wet suit and scuba gear.

She approaches the stunned guy and says: “Tell me, how long has it been since you’ve had a cigarette?”

“Ten years,” replies the stunned man.

With that she reaches over and unzips a waterproof pocket on her left sleeve and pulls out a pack of cigarettes.

He takes one, lights it, takes a long drag and says: “Man, oh man! Is that good!”

“And how long has it been since you’ve had a sip of bourbon?” she asks him.

Trembling the castaway replies: “Ten years.”

She reaches over, unzips her right sleeve, pulls out a flask and hands it to him.

He opens the flask, takes a long swig and says: “WOW, that’s absolutely fantastic!”

At this point, she starts slowly unzipping the long zipper that runs down the front of her wet suit, looks at the man seductively, and asks: “And how long has it been since you’ve had some real fun?”

With tears in his eyes, the guy falls to his knees and sobs: “Oh good Lord! Don’t tell me you’ve got a laptop?”

Got a real good Chinese/Thai joint for you guys to checkout, Taste of Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant in Sarasota.

Simple tale to tell, yesterday, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and our friends Ellen and Marc “discovered” Taste of Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant and I gotta tell you that- the joint’s food was absolutely delicious! Booth/table seating, reasonably priced- full boat of Jewish American Brooklyn circa 1957 Chinese food/handful of Thai ‘specials’ menu, open Monday- Saturday 11:30am-10pm/ Sunday 4:30pm/9pm.

Let me wrap-up Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant by saying, that if the joint was in Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats’ Boca Raton neighborhood- we definitely would be real steady customers! Ditto- for Ellen and Marc who also live in Boca Raton!

Got a real good sandwich joint for you guys to checkout- Hogan’s Great Sandwiches in Gainesville.

Simple tale to tell- order/pickup at counter, cash only, table seating, draft & bottled beer/wine bar, tvs, military memorabilia decor, reasonably priced- 6” 8” 12” hot & cold heroes & sandwiches/ salads menu, open Monday-Saturday 10am-midnight/Sunday 10am-9pm.

Yesterday, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats discovered Hogan’s Great Sandwiches and I gotta tell you guys- the joint’s food absolutely killed!

Now, you guys know (or should know by now) that this food reviewing gig is purely a subjective game- you know, what Jeff Eats likes, you may hate, vice versa- so on and so forth…with that in mind, I gotta tell you- that Hogan’s Great Sandwiches is right-up there with Florida’s best sandwich joints!

Let’s rate Hogan’s Great Sandwiches a must try!

Last Saturday night around 10pm my wife and I- and another couple stopped by a German “bar-restaurant”—Biergarten in Boca Raton. The joint has indoor seating/huge outdoor patio seating. Real simple concept–tons of different beers, wines, specialty drinks—menu loaded with appetizers, burgers, salads, sandwiches, tacos, German style wursts-schnitzels-and other dishes—local bands and djs. The joint looks like “what” I guess a German beer garden in Germany is suppose to look like and the staff wears’ German beer garden costumes (I think!) What a cool place!. It was JAMMED and I do mean JAMMED! I’m gonna bet here, that half the crowd was FAU/Lynn students. Although it was approaching “my” bedtime, I still “tried” a steak slider, bbq pork slider, pastrami slider, kielbasa, potato pancakes—and I’m telling you straight up, the food was absolutely dynamite. Absolutely some of the best “bar” stuff I’ve had in a very very long time. A great dj was spinning all-types of music and I understand that the bands that work the joint, play classic rock, reggae and new stuff.

Suffice it to say, the “kids” there were having an absolute blast–and us 4 old geezers did the same. Boy! If Ithaca, New York had a joint like Biergarten back in 1966-1970–just maybe, I wouldn’t have been so anxious to graduate from Ithaca College-to get back to Brooklyn. In all fairness, Bobby Comstock & The Counts was a great band, but if memory serves me right, the food at the Dewitt Clinton Hotel where they worked- wasn’t even in the same breath as Biergarten’s grub.

Biergarten hasn’t been around for very long. I’m guessing here, but I think something like 6 months. The joint is located in the “Pink Plaza” in Boca Raton…the spot that it’s in- has over the years-housed more restaurants than you can shake a stick at. I maybe going out on a limb here, but I think that the landlord has finally found a long-term tenant.

Let me close by saying, no matter how old or for that matter young you are—you gotta try Biergarten.

Biergarten is open Sunday-Monday 11am-midnight, Tuesday-Saturday 11am-2am.
