***** Wingstop, 4570 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, Florida 33073, (954) 935-9464.
Wingstop is a “national” WING chain. For our purposes, there are currently 7 South Florida locations. You can check www.wingstop.com for menu/prices/locations.
Wingstop is a real-easy concept to comprehend… non breaded wings, breaded boneless wings, breaded white meat chicken strips…9 flavors…handful of sides.
A recent outing had me trying—breaded wings/breaded strips/boneless wings/french fries…hawaiian, teriyaki, garlic parmesan flavors. Loved all of the offerings/flavors. Also really enjoyed the fresh hand cut french fries. From what I can tell, everthing is made to order…the stuff came out of the kitchen piping hot.
If you like wings and fries, you’ll like this joint.
Like I said, there are 7 joints in our area, so check Wingstop’s website for a close-by location and its hours.

A recent e-mail received by Jeff Eats.
Jeff Eats:
Recently transplanted native Queens NY 61 year old. Been living in Pembroke Pines for 5 months and having serious withdrawal pains from not being able to eat in NYC’s Chinatown. Can you get me back on track with a real Chinatown type joint down here?
Thank you very much,
Ronnie W

Got a real-good Chinese joint for you…Hong Kong City BBQ in Tamarac.
The beautiful thing about Hong Kong City BBQ is that nobody in your car is gonna bitch about going there. The reason Jeff Eats says that, the joint has dim sum, Brooklyn-Jewish-American Chinese food circa 1957 and authentic Chinese food (whatever that is?).
Anyway,
A party of 6-of us recently gave Hong Kong City BBQ a shot and I gotta tell you, the food was right on the money.
Let me give you a fast run down of what was ordered…
House Wonton Soup.
Egg Drop Soup.
Chicken Corn Soup.
Pan Fried Pot Stickers.
BBQ Roasted Honey Roasted Spareribs.
BBQ Roasted 1/2 Duck.
Shrimp Pan Fried Noodles.
Roast Pork Fried Rice.
Peking Pork Chops.
Sweet & Sour Pork.
Steam Whole Tilapia.
Lobster Cantonese.
Now, nothing for nothing–not one person in our party “didn’t find what to eat” and everyone agreed that the food was really good. The prices are “neighborhood” Chinese joint prices, the décor is neighborhood Chinese joint décor. Playing to its name–Hong King City BBQ (with the emphasis on BBQ) the joint has some bbq chickens/ducks/pigs hanging over the front counter–which gives the joint a nice New York City Chinatown Dump feel.
You guys know that Jeff Eats really isn’t into doing “pecking orders”…that said, the House Wonton Soup, BBQ Honey Roasted Spareribs, Peking Pork Chops and Sweet & Sour Pork were at the top of my list. Like I said before, everything was really good, but the stuff I just mentioned–was really-really good.
I’m just guessing here, but I’m thinking that some of you guys may want to know: Does Hong Kong City BBQ have any “Early Bird” deals? Yes “Virginia”-from 3pm-7pm- 7 days a week Hong Kong City BBQ has an Early Bird which gets you–soup/egg roll/white or fried rice/entrée.
Let me wrap this one up,
Jeff Eats really enjoyed Hong Kong City BBQ. Give this joint a shot- I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
You can check menu/other stuff at www.hkcitybbq.com.
Hong Kong City BBQ is open Monday-Friday 11am-11pm, Saturday-Sunday 10:30am-11pm.
This contest started on 3/31/23. This contest has a winner.

If you are looking for a real good New York Kosher Style Deli (and who isn’t?) that does breakfast, lunch and dinner- you gotta checkout Ruven’s in Boynton Beach.
Jeff Eats singled-out the joint’s pastrami on rye for special mention- that said, trust me when I tell you- it’s all good at Ruven’s! Of course some-things are better than other things, but Jeff Eats is kinda thinking that you’ll really-enjoy whatever Ruven’s serves up!
Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, when you walk into Ruven’s- its look/its smell/its vibe is gonna have you thinking your’re in a NY Kosher/Kosher Style Deli somewhere in the 5- boroughs!- and you won’t have to hold down a second job to be able to pay the check!
Ruven’s is open 7 days a week 8am-8:30pm.

Back on February 20, 2011 Jeff Eats told you guys about Ruven’s a New York Kosher Style Deli that had just opened for business in the San Marco Shopping Center in Delray Beach. To make a long story short– Ruven’s opened in a spot where two bagel/delis had previously failed. I guess, Ruven’s owner, Steve Ratinetz was betting on real good food and “three times the charm” to make Ruven’s a winner…
Anyway…
Here it is 3-years later and Ruven’s is “sort-a” still around. Now follow me, a few months ago, Ratinetz moved Ruven’s…3 maybe- 4 bays down-into a store formerly occupied by Lenny’s New York Grille.
Anyway…
No doubt in Jeff Eats’ mind…the ‘new” Ruven’s is now in a much better spot–that being right next door to Publix. Same food and service-with the “new” Ruven’s featuring a really cool “lower NYC east-side” circa 1940-1950 decor. Having eaten in Lenny’s numerous times, I can tell you-that Ratinetz did a great job in combining his own decorative ideas with Lenny’s decor remnants.
Just wanted to re-introduce you guys to an old-favorite of mine.
Now…Does Ruven’s qualify under the “three times the charm” rule?

Bingo!— Home Run!
If you are looking for a terrific-New York Kosher Style Deli—your wish has been answered. Say hello, to Ruven’s which opened last Wednesday in Delray Beach. For right now, the joint is open 7 days a week from 8am-3pm—look for “dinner” to be added sometime in late March.
Just some background info… “this” Ruven’s is owned by Steve Ratinetz who in the mid 1990′s-2003 owned/operated Ruven’s in Plainview, New York—which was an absolutely terrific kosher deli. My January 25, 2011 Ruven’s of Long Island writeup- has more “history” if you are a history-buff.
You know and I know, that South Florida has more bagel delis than you can shake a stick at…just for the record, Ruven’s is not and I repeat the word NOT, a bagel deli. For sure, it has the requisite “500″ types of bagels, bialys and onion boards—that said, this joint is all about pastrami- corned beef- brisket- turkey- stuffed derma- potato pancakes- blintzes, chopped liver-stuffed cabbage-fried kreplach-matzo ball soup—that rival the best stuff served in NYC, Chicago…or for that matter, anywhere that you formerly called home.
If there is one thing that Jeff Eats knows—it’s good deli.
This afternoon, in no particular order– I did a “taste test” of pastrami, corned beef, brisket, turkey off the bone, matzo ball soup, cabbage soup, stuffed derma, potato pancakes, chopped liver. fried kreplach…absolutely delicious.
Based on Jeff Eats’ “maiden outing”—I’m putting Ruven’s right up there with South Florida’s best New York Kosher Style Delis. Throw-in huge portions at reasonable prices…and I can’t see Ruven’s not quickly developing an enormous following.
You now know about a terrific deli—this one is a keeper!

Yesterday- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “discovered” Whit’s Frozen Custard and all I can tell you- is if you like frozen custard- you will absolutely love this joint. Simple concept- order/pickup at counter, inside table & wall counter seating, very reasonably priced vanilla/chocolate/rotating daily and monthly flavors/toppings/shakes-malts menu, open 7 days a week noon-10pm, currently 51 U.S. store-chain with a handful of Florida joints- Boca Raton store opened in October,2019.
Let me wrap-up Whit’s Frozen Custard by saying that its custard is made fresh daily and is absolutely delicious!

* Humor!
While driving too fast on #16 at the golf course, a retired but handsome gentleman accidentally overturned his cart late one March afternoon.
An attractive female who lives in a huge house right on the golf course, heard the noise and called out: -“Are you OK?”
“I’m gonna live, just bruised up, thanks.”- he replied, as he pulled himself out of the twisted cart.
She said: -“Come up to my patio, rest a while, and I’ll help you get the cart up later.”
The man noticed her silky bathrobe was partially open, revealing what appeared to be a killer figure. “That’s mighty nice of you,”- he answered, -“but I know my wife wouldn’t like it.”
“Oh, come on now Big Boy!”- she insisted.
She was so hot and pretty, and very, very persuasive, and he was weak.
“Well, OK.”- he finally agreed.
After a couple of Bourbon and ginger ales, he thanked her and said: -“I feel a lot better now. But I know my wife is going to be upset. So I’d better go now.”
“Don’t be silly!”- she said with a smile, letting her robe fall open. -“Stay for a while. Your wife won’t know anything. By the way, where is she?”
He replied: -“Still under the cart.”
