***** Top Burger.

Jeff Eats first told you guys about this fast food hole in the wall- burger joint way back on October 19, 2012 (that tale is reprinted down below)…

Long story short, hadn’t been back until yesterday afternoon- and I gotta tell you, Top Burger is still serving-up delicious cheeseburgers and fresh handcut French fries …

Trust me on this one, this is a good joint to catch a burger at!

By the way, there are now 2- Top Burger joints…1 (the original)- 109 Northeast 1st Avenue, Miami and 1- 764 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach.

You can check topburger.com for menu/prices/info.

***** Top Burger, 109 Northeast 1st Avenue, Miami, Florida 33132, (305) 379-3100.

Top Burger…small- hole in the wall fast food burger joint in Miami. Handful of formica tables and counter seating.

Top Burger opened in August, 2012…you can check menu/prices/photos at http://topburger.com.

Let me make this one real short and real simple…the grilled top cheese burger/french fries were delicious.

Like Jeff Eats mentioned a few seconds ago, the joint has been in business for only a few months… nothing “original” going on here—burgers, fries, hot dogs, chicken breast sandwiches, shakes.

You know and I know that eventually this game of fast food burgers “musical chairs” is gonna end real-badly for most of the joints in this space. Only time will tell if Top Burger can successfully carve out a niche for itself.

Top Burger is open Monday-Friday 11am-5pm, Saturday 11am-10pm, closed on Sunday.

Pubgrill (Cutler Bay)

***** Pubgrill, 18503 South Dixie Highway, Cutler Bay, Florida 33157, (305) 253-4996.

For our purposes let’s call Pubgrill a neighborhood sports-bar (handful of beers on tap and bottled craft beers)…tvs, booth/table seating.

Pubgrill is open Monday-Friday 11am-11pm, Saturday- Sunday 8am-11pm (breakfast is served).

Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple recently gave this joint a shot for dinner and I gotta tell you, Pubgrill’s food absolutely killed!

Trust me when I tell you, that the French onion burger, spicy honey mustard grilled wings, garlic bbq grilled wings, French onion soup, blackened mahi on onion challah bread, fried calamari, Caesar salad, philly cheesesteak sub (Pubgrill calls it a hoagie), truffle mac n’cheese, French fries, mashed potatoes- were all delicious…

Pubgrill is definitely not serving-up typical-standard sports’ bar stuff…somebody (somebodies?) in its kitchen really knows how to cook!

Like many of the joints that Jeff Eats “finds”- “tries”- whatever you wanna call it- this Pubgrill joint is a loooong-way from my Boca Raton home- All I can tell you- if this joint was in my neighborhood, Jeff Eats would definitely be a real steady customer. The food, service, prices, vibe were all right on the money!

The 4 Peace Band

***** The 4 Peace Band.

Yesterday (don’t even ask!) Jeff Eats spent 2 hours, 38 minutes and 11 seconds-at the Delray Affair in Delray Beach…not gonna go into details, but something like 1,000 degrees in the shade on Atlantic Avenue, along with 409,005 of my closest friends, looking at 86,940 booths filled with God Only Knows What!

Anyway…

One of the musical acts “booked” was local South Florida 60’s-70’s cover band- The 4 Peace Band…

Long story short, while Mrs. Jeff Eats “strolled” the Affair, Jeff Eats got to watch/listen to The 4 Peace Band… and I gotta tell you that this band killed! Fronted by lead singer Jason Colannino- The 4 Peace Band played absolutely (to name but a few) first-rate Beatles, Stones, Eagles, Steely Dan, Crosby Stills & Nash covers.

Just between you and Jeff Eats, I was so impressed with this band, that this morning I passed The 4 Peace Band’s “info” onto several local booking agents!

That’s the story.

You can check the band-out at jasoncolannino.com.

***** DISH OF THE WEEK (Sunday- 4/12/15).

One of Jeff Eats’ favorite menu items…

MEATLOAF WITH MASHED POTATOES, VEGGIES & BISCUIT
$7.99

Johnny’s Soda Fountain & Luncheonette
45 Curtiss Parkway
Miami Springs
(786) 953-5553

Latest Review: 5/2/12

Jeff Eats absolutely loves this “faux” 50’s joint/drugstore. The $7.99 meatloaf “special” is an absolute homerun.

Printed down below is my “original” 5/2/12 Johnny’s Soda & Luncheonette story.

If a 1950’s “looking” diner located in a Miami Springs pharmacy is your game…get ready to play.

Last week I had lunch at Johnny’s Soda Fountain & Luncheonette which is located in the Miami Springs Pharmacy. You can do the Googling here, but back in 1946 a guy named John Stadnik opened a drug store in Miami Springs…and like many of its brethern of the time, it had both a pharmacy and luncheonette in it. To make a long story short, the pharmacy “survived” but the luncheonette closed in 1965. Fast forward to 2010- the Miami Springs Pharmacy is still owned by the Stadnik Family– and Carol, John Stadnik’s daughter decides to “re-open” the luncheonette naming it Johnny’s Soda Fountain & Luncheonette.

So- you know what this joint is all about, the PHARMACY still has the original 1946-look…while-Johnny’s is 1950’s faux-stuff ala Johnny Rockets. For our purposes, this is a mom & pop diner—with an interesting “story” in a really cool location.

Johnny’s menu isn’t huge, but I’m sure you’ll find something to eat…handful of breakfast items–same for salads/sandwiches/burgers/hot dogs/entrees/daily specials/sundaes & shakes. Like I said a few seconds ago, I did lunch…cheeseburger, grilled chicken breast sandwich, french fries, vanilla ice cream/heath bar shake.

Now for the results…I loved the look of the whole joint. The pharmacy and luncheonette are separated by a half-wall divider. Now I know and you know (because I told you)–that the diner decor is a faux-deal, but it’s still cool and real mom & popish…if Johnny Rockets’ decor is a Bentley, Johnny’s is a really used Honda. As for the food, imagine if you made the stuff at home. I appreciate that we may get some-waaaay different results here, but I do make a real good cheeseburger and Mrs. Jeff Eats can muster up a decent enough grilled chicken breast…as for the fries, Johnny’s were ok– like mine- they came out of a frozen package. The shake wasn’t exactly in the league of a Dairy Queen’s Blizzard, but I definitely could handle 2-3 of Johnny’s a week. For the record, over the years Jeff Eats has tried to “duplicate” blizzards at home and has failed miserably.

Johnny’s Soda Fountain & Luncheonette is my kinda of a joint…I’m a sucker for black & white tiled floors, yellow counter stools and red & white checked tablecloths.

Johnny’s is open Monday-Saturday 8am-8pm, Sunday 9am-3pm.

* SURF CLAY WHERE WE GO.

See the guy in the blue shirt…

On a recent episode of TV’s- Wheel Of Fortune that guy attempted “solving” the puzzle with- SURF CLAY WHERE WE GO.

Now, nothing for nothing- having practiced law for 42 years, trust Jeff Eats when I tell you- that I’ve seen guys- just like the guy in the blue shirt- sitting as jurors on murder trials and billion dollar anti-trust cases.

Scary…

Thank God this guy doesn’t have a food blog!

* Burger-Palooza: Taste the Best Burgers in Town.

Literally, just this minute, Jeff Eats got this “deal” from goldstar.com.

Personally at $70 & $150 I think the event-sponsors are pushing their luck…but at $35 and $75 this “thing” sounds like a pretty decent “deal”- but I would like to know who the burger-players are!

If you want to go…you can catch tickets at goldstar.com.

Chinatown (Boynton Beach)

***** Chinatown, 534 East Woolbright Road, Boynton Beach, Florida 33436, (561) 737-2121.

Got a real-good Chinese take-out joint for you guys…Chinatown in Boynton Beach. Operative word here TAKEOUT so don’t be planning a sit down- High School Graduation Party there!

Long story short, last night- friends of Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats had us over for dinner-egg rolls, pan fried dumplings, bbq spareribs, wonton soup, beef fried rice, General tso’s chicken, chicken lo mein, sweet & sour pork, shrimp with mixed vegetables and I gotta tell you-that everything was right on the money.. No fooling here, definitely one of the better American Chinese Takeouts down here in sunny South Florida.

Now you guys know that Jeff Eats really isn’t into “pecking orders” because- you do know, what I like you may hate and vice versa…that said, I thought that the bbq ribs and General tso’s chicken were spot-on and that the weak link in the chain- was the shrimp with mixed vegetables…but hey, I thought that the Edsel was going to be a huge seller-so what do I know!

Let me wrap this up for you, if China Town was closer to my Boca Raton-home, I would definitely be a steady customer.

You can check menu/prices at boyntonchinatown.wix.com.

Chinatown is open Monday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-10:30am, Sunday noon-10pm.

Finally, down below the-4/8/15 Sun Sentinel advertisement that our friends used- to save a few bucks!
