Shut Up & Jam Tour

* Ted Nugent.

A recent e-mail received by Jeff Eats.

Jeff,

How do you hear about and keep track of various events, concerts, festivals, shows, etc. in South Florida? How do you decide which ones to tell your readers about?

Tanya

________

Tanya,

Good questions!

No bs- here, on average Jeff Eats receives 20-25 e-mails a day from Florida “venues.” Throw in visiting a ton of internet sites- and Jeff Eats has a pretty good idea as to what’s playing and what’s coming up!

As to “which ones” I tell you guys about, let’s just say I got a pretty good “feel” as to what most of Jeff Eats’ readers (known as an audience) are into- for example, I know from your past Jeff Eats’ “comments” that you love Oldies & 60’s Rock n Roll shows!

Printed down below is an “example” of the type of e-mails I receive from Florida venues.

Thanks for reading…

***** JT’s Sports Bar & Grill, 10466 Taft Street, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33026, (954) 441-3833.

Got a real good sports bar for you guys- JT’s Sports Bar & Grill in Pembroke Pines.

The other night, Mrs. Jeff Eats gave Jeff Eats a “break” and let him (me)- spend some time with a bunch of buddies watching some NCAA Basketball.

Long story short, Jeff Eats & Company spent the evening at JT’s Sports Bar & Grill and had an absolute blast (for Mrs. Jeff Eats purposes- the joint stunk and “we” all couldn’t wait to get home)!

JT’s has the requisite full bar, booth and table seating- tons of flat screen tvs…The joint’s menu- tons of appetizers, burgers, wings, sandwiches, salads, entrees. Now for the kicker, JT’s Sports Bar’s food absolutely killed!

Free Rolling Stones’ Concert (Havana, Cuba)

Posted on March 30th, 2016 · Cuban Deals Music/Events/Other · No Comments »

* Free Rolling Stones’Concert!

At first glance -Jeff Eats thought that this recent admitonenow.com article was an advertisement for a new senior assisted living facility opening in Pembroke Pines…

image

Did any of you guys go? (The concert was this past Friday)- Havana is only 90 miles north of Key West!-you may-be wondering how Jeff Eats knows the distance/mileage- you guys do remember John Kennedy, Fidel Castro and Nikita Khrushchev, sure you do!

image

from admitonenow.com
Tonight, the Rolling Stones will bring their music to Cuba for the first time ever. Concert organizers expect more than a million people to show up on the streets of Havana for the open air concert. The band arrived in the Cuban capital on Thursday. The performance is billed as the first open-air concert in Cuba by a British rock band ever. Not too long ago, Rock and Roll was considered subversive and decadent by the Castro-regime, so this concert marks something of a milestone. Up until the year 2000, the music of the Beatles was banned.

The Rolling Stones have now been touring for over five decades. In a recent press release, lead singer Mick Jagger told Cuban fans “We are so excited to be coming to play for you. Thank you for welcoming us to your beautiful country.”

Music really breaks barriers. Recently, Cuba saw electronic artist Diplo perform in Cuba’s first ever electronic dance concert. Cuba is the last stop on the Rolling Stones’ Latin America tour.

The concert is FREE on a first-come, first-served basis. If 1 million people actually show up to the concert, that equates to 1 in 11 people on the island.

Fun fact: Guitarist Keith Richards has one very strange requirement before he goes on stage. He must have Shepherd’s pie or the show will not go on.

In return for the “free” concert, the band is expected to receive a lifetime supply of Cuban cigars. Well, at least that’s what we assume.

Mom’ s Kitchen (Fort Lauderdale)

***** Mom’s Kitchen, 1940 Northeast 45th Street, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33308, (954) 776-7292.

For our purposes we’re gonna call Mom’s Kitchen in Fort Lauderdale an “out of sight, out of mind” joint…

Jeff Eats first told you guys about this diner way back on November 9, 2011. Like I just said, “out of sight, out of mind”- truth be told, I hadn’t been back since that story appeared.

Anyway,

This past Sunday, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple did breakfast at Mom’s Kitchen and I gotta tell you that this “mom & pop” diner which has been around since 1972 did the right thing by-us!

image

image

image

If you’re like Jeff Eats, that being into eat-out Sunday breakfasts, delicious food, all the coffee you could ever want, heavy duty sized portions, reasonable prices, 1960s-1970s diner decor, booth/table/counter seating, super pleasant staff…then Mom’s Kitchen will definitely work for you!

***** Mom’s Kitchen, 1940 Northeast 45th Street, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33308, (954) 776-7292.

Mom’s Kitchen…very original name, right! Just don’t confuse this “mom & pop” diner- with “mom & pop” diner- Mom’s Kitchen reviewd here on July 5, 2008, then again, “that” Mom’s Kitchen is in Lake Worth and this Mom’s Kitchen is in Fort Lauderdale. Then again, this Mom Kitchen’s has been around since 1972…

Anyway…if you are a fan of neighborhood diners—1960’s-1970’s look- as I am, you will enjoy Mom’s Kitchen. You know the look, counter seating, booths, formica. This particular Mom’s does breakfast & lunch Monday-Saturday 6am–3pm and Sunday 6am-2pm. As for menu particulars, the full boat of all-day breakfast stuff, burgers, sandwiches, salads. Absolutely-positively nothing fancy here.

For the record, Jeff Eats has done 3 breakfasts and 2 lunches here- let’s call this one “good solid diner” food.

To wrap this one-up—good diner food, good diner service, good diner prices, good diner decor, good neighborhood vibe.

Real easy tale to tell you guys, Goldman’s is one of the best bagel/deli joints in Florida!

I singled out Goldmans’ pastrami on rye for special mention- but trust Jeff Eats when I tell you that- “everything” this joint makes kills! Of course, some “items” kill more than others, but they all kill!

If you’re into bagel/deli joints- Goldmans is an absolute must try!

***** Goldmans Bagel Deli, 2796 North Roosevelt Avenue, Key West, Florida 33040, (305) 294-3354.

Goldmans is a New York Kosher Style Bagel/Deli joint. Counter/booth/table seating.

image

Goldmans has all kinds of breakfast stuff, sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads…the joint boils/bakes its own bagels-there are 12 different types of bagels.

You can check menu/prices/photos at www.goldmansdeli.com.

Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and a couple of friends recently did lunch at Goldmans-and I gotta tell you… the pastrami on rye, corned beef on rye, chicken salad on a toasted everything bagel, tuna salad on a toasted whole wheat bagel, potato salad/cole slaw were-real good.

Based on “this” outing…Goldmans has to- rank right up there with the best of South Florida’s bagel/deli joints.

Goldmans is a good joint to know about- if you live in Key West or just visiting-like we were.

Goldmans Bagel Deli is open Monday-Saturday 7am-4pm,Sunday 7am-3pm.

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, I’ve seen all three of these national headlining comedians’ acts and they all kill!

Vic DiBitetto

An incredibly powerful performer, comedian Vic DiBitetto churns energy, honesty and humanity into nonstop laughter. His pace is frenetic. His material vivid and true. He’s been called a cross between Rodney Dangerfield and Ralph Kramden. The bottom line is, DiBitetto leaves his audiences breathless with laughter.

Referred to by most other comics as a “killer”, it means you just can’t follow Vic onstage. And that has been uttered by many very famous stand-ups over the years.

Vic is currently:

Featured in Kevin James’ new movie Mall Cop: Blart 2 coming out in April 2015
Writing and Producing his Ticked Off Vic segment for WPLJ in New York City (reaches 3 million people) an Internet Sensation with over 20 million YouTube views and his now famous Bread and Milk rant

Featured in a video roll-in segment in the play Italian Bred currently in LA and coming to Broadway (Fall 2014)

Starring in an untitled prime time Hulu Original scripted sit-com Fall 2014

Featured performer on the online Funny For Money site (Comedy Central and YouTube venture)

Vic has appeared on television’s America’s Funniest People (ABC) where he was a $10,000 Grand Prize winner as well as Stand-Up Spotlight (VH1) and Last Laugh at Pips and acted in a pilot with Woody Allen and Danny Aiello. In addition, he has warmed-up hundreds of audiences for hit shows such as Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and The Ricki Lake Show.

Richie Minervini

Richie Minervini knows how to keep an audience laughing. Richie is well known for his rapid-fire style delivery of good, clean comedy. Richie is the former owner of Long Island’s premier comedy club, The East Side Comedy Club, where celebrities such as Rosie O’Donnell, Jay Leno, Eddie Murphy, Kevin James and Ray Romano started their stand-up careers. Having been “dubbed” The Cameleon of Comedy” by his peers, Richie Minervini adapts easily to any audience or venue.

Fred Rubino

In 2005 Fred became a published author with the release of his conspiracy driven book Nazi Princess: The Final Deception which actually isn’t funny at all!!!

Three years later, Fred turned his interest to writing and performing stand up comedy. Opening up for comics such as Nick Dipaolo and Vic Dibitetto, Fred quickly became the featured comic everyone wanted to use! He has also appeared on Radio Opie and Anthony’s top ten funniest listeners radio show, recently had his performance broadcast live on the internet via Action Audio and has made many appearances on local cable talk shows where he has performed his hilarious standup.

In 2013 he co-starred in a TV pilot with YouTube sensation, movie and TV actor and major comedy headliner Vic Dibitetto. Soon after he signed with Best Entertainment, Fred has been performing at prestigious East Coast clubs and theatres such as Stress Factory , Governors , Bananas and Broadway Comedy Club to name a few. He also has recently been signed to perform at Resorts World Casinos as well as the Tarrytown Music Hall, two very large, important and exclusive venues.
Fred has now successfully transitioned from Featured Comic to Star and Headlining Comedian in his own right!
You can watch him in Vic’s Vignettes on Youtube!

In 1982, after founding “Governor’s Comedy Shop” in Levittown on Long Island and touring as a national headliner, on a suggestion from a Washington DC comedy club owner, he blindly sent his three LP’s to Howard Stern upon Howard’s arrival at WNBC-AM in New York City. Howard called him to make a guest appearance on his radio show. In 1986, Jackie became a full-time cast member and the head writer of Stern’s show, and as they say, the rest is history. Remarkable radio as well as show business history.

Jackie left the Stern show in 2001 after fifteen-year run as head writer of the radio show, four television series, and three Pay-Per-Views. He’s released six dirty joke CD’s … “The Joke Man,” “Sgt. Pecker,” “Hot Dogs & Donuts,” Come Again?!,” F. jackie,” and “snart,” as well as three videos, five joke books and countless joke gadgets of all kinds, for children as well as adults.

In 2006 he released a CD of his original music entitled “Happy Endings,” that he co-produced with guitar legend Frank Vignola.

From 2007-2014, Jackie wrote and performed his own radio show on SiriusXM Satellite Radio, “Jackie’s Joke Hunt,” and he wrote the joke page for Penthouse magazine for 17 years.

Jackie is featured in the red-hot comedy documentary, “The Aristocrats,” over a dozen other independent films, and has appeared on many television shows.

He still works all around the country performing his solo act of rapid-fire filthy jokes and the classic finale, “Stump The Joke Man.” and guests on many of the top national radio shows and podcasts.

Nick’s 50’s Diner (West Palm Beach)

***** Nick’s 50’s Diner, 1900 Okeechobee, West Palm Beach, Florida 33409, (561) 471-3155.

For our purposes we’re gonna call Nick’s 50’s Diner an “out of sight, out of mind” diner joint!

Jeff Eats first told you guys about Nick’s 50’s Diner way-back on December 8, 2008- that “story” is reprinted down below…until yesterday morning, Jeff Eats hadn’t been back to Nick’s. Why the hiatus?- (back in 2008, I loved the joint’s food/service/prices, table/booth/counter seating, 50’s decor), like I said a few seconds ago, I’m kinda thinking “out of sight out of mind.”- Something like, I live in Boca Raton and Nick’s in West Palm Beach!

Anyway…

Yesterday, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did breakfast- and the joint totally killed! Delicious western omelette and scrambled eggs/bacon toasted sandwich. Super pleasant service. Constantly filled coffee cups (for what it’s worth, Mrs Jeff Eats said that I should tell you guys- that the coffee was absolutely delicious).

image

image

Long story short,

If you’re into top-notch “mom & pop” diners- then you gotta try Nick’s 50’s Diner!

*****  Nick’s 50’s Diner, 1900 Okeechobee Boulevard, West Palm Beach, Florida 33409 (561) 471-3155.

Nick’s name says it all…50’s diner…well almost, Nick’s has been around something like 25 years, so you do the math.

Anyway…check Nick’s website at www.nicks50diner.com for menu/loads of pictures and you’ll know exactly what this joint is all about.

Nick’s is a great place for a “diner” breakfast or lunch. Nothing fancy…good food-good prices-pleasant wait-staff. The menu is loaded with breakfast-stuff, salads, soups, burgers, sandwiches, meat/seafood/chicken entrees, shakes/malts/ice cream/desserts. My personal favorites, grilled cheese with bacon, chicken fried steak, double cheeseburger and the meatloaf.

If 50’s-diner “look and food” is your bag (it’s mine)…you will really enjoy this joint. Nick’s is open for breakfast-lunch… Monday-Saturday 7am-3pm and Sunday 8am-2pm.
