Jeff Laub is a Brooklyn, NY native who writes and performs his totally original material in comedy clubs, country clubs and on cruise ships the world over. He’s been featured on Fox News, and appeared on the Showtime Showcase and the MDA telethon. Jeff has also opened for stars of stage and screen such as Oscar winner Joel Grey, Tony Orlando, Melissa Manchester, Lou Rawls.

from jefflaub.com

Jeff Laub is a funny guy. Some people are tall. Some people are brilliant. Some people are beautiful. And some people are naturally funny. It’s what you are. It’s what you do. Lebron dunks, Martha cooks and Jeff Laub makes people laugh. He’s always been funny. He was funny in P.S. 99, Midwood High School and especially in Brooklyn College, where he once starred in Country Fair as a character based on his comedic idol, Don Rickles.
But funny isn’t always funny. After spending too much time cracking up his Pi Lam fraternity brothers, Jeff bombed on his calculus and chemistry finals, abruptly putting an end to his mother’s dream of her “tatala’s” future dental career. So Jeff switched his major to Television Production and there was no looking back. He earned a Masters degree in Speech & Theater and Television Production and landed the best job of his life, working as a Page on the Dick Cavett Show. Earning $1.70 an hour and pocketing an extra 30 cents a day that was supposed to go towards shirt dry cleaning, Jeff spent each day meeting and watching the greatest entertainers, in the world, including comedy legends such as Woody Allen, Mel Brooks, Bill Cosby and Robert Klein. But married life beckoned, and even Jeff Laub couldn’t live on $1.70 an hour forever, even in a $101 a month rent control apartment on Ocean Avenue.
So he landed a job in the game show business, utilizing his Masters Degree expertise by typing questions on blue index cards and fetching tea for Bill Cullen (Bill preferred Red Rose, by the way). Eventually, Jeff worked his way up to writer and Producer on such shows as “Three On a Match,” “Winning Streak,” “Shoot For the Stars” and the Emmy Award winning “10,000 Pyramid” starring Dick Clark. Things were looking up, so Jeff moved to Wantagh, Long Island with wife Ellyn and baby girl Heather.
He then created “The ShowBiz Quiz,” which resulted in a development deal with NBC. But Jay Leno said he wanted the time slot, so the show never got on the air.
Jeff soon branched out and pioneered the Instructional Video genre as writer and co-Executive Producer of “Watch Your Step” and the VIRA award winning “The Incredible Magic of Magic.” Unfortunately, it was 1979, and only six people in American owned VCRs, so the profits were slim to say the least. But he kept himself afloat by writing and starring in sketch comedy on “The Showtime Showcase,” hosted by Tom Kennedy. Son, Cory arrived and the Laub family unit was now complete.
Soon the Corporate world beckoned, and Jeff became the number one writer and outside creative consultant for Pepsi-Cola Company, writing and producing hundreds of speeches, roasts, song parodies and multi-media presentations for sales meetings and bottler conventions all over the U.S. for over 12 years. But he was tired. And New York was cold. Still funny, but cold and tired. So Jeff Laub sold the house on Long Island, packed up the wife and two kids and moved to south Florida.
He really had no choice, did he? Brooklyn…to Long Island…to Florida. That’s the Appalachian Trail for Jews and Italians.
Then, one day, Jeff discovers the open mic comedy show at Borders Bookstore and it hits him. “Finally…a job where I can always be funny and only have to work an hour a day.” The rest is history.
Jeff Laub performs year-round at comedy clubs, country clubs, hotels, casinos, synagogues, churches, corporate functions and on cruise ships all over the world.
He’s had the pleasure of opening for such stars as Oscar winner Joel Grey, Tony Orlando, Lou Rawls, Hal Linden, Lucy Arnaz and Sally Kellerman.
One of Jeff’s key strengths is his versatility and skill in adapting his style and material to any audience setting. With his razor sharp wit and ad-libbing ability, he’s received rave reviews whether he’s performing his “R” rated late night comedy club shows or headlining for 2000 senior citizens at an adult retirement community. Hopefully, you’ll have a chance to catch Jeff’s act soon. But don’t wait too long. He hasn’t totally given up on that dental career. Are you listening, Ma?

Batman v Superman

Posted on March 2nd, 2016 · Music/Events/Other · No Comments »

* Batman v Superman.

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, I’ve been reading Batman and Superman “comics” since 1954. Now, if I got their respective stories-right, the only thing that can hurt/kill Superman is Kryptonite! With that in mind, I am wondering what- in the world the new movie – Batman v Superman which opens on Friday- March 25, 2016 could possibly be about? Then again on second thought, if Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and Perry White couldn’t figure out that Clark Kent and Superman were one and the same, because of a pair of black horn rimmed glasses, then any story-line is possible! While I’m on the subject of disguises, you guys do remember Ricky not knowing it was Lucy because she was wearing a mustache, sure you do!

Tribute to the Band Chicago (“If You Leave Me Now,” “Saturday in the Park”–Boca Black Box- Boca Raton)

* Tribute to the Band Chicago (“If You Leave Me Now,” “Saturday in the Park”).

Real simple tale to tell you guys, the band’s name is Solid Brass- and it’s one of the best Chicago “tribute” bands in America. Over the years, Jeff Eats has seen Solid Brass in action something like 10 times and like I just enunciated- definitely one of the best Chicago tribute bands in the business…

from goldstar.com
To be a great Chicago tribute band, you have to be a great band, period. For one thing, there’s Chicago’s incredible output and back catalog, encompassing 20 Top 10 hits and 15 platinum albums. Then you have to replicate the original’s incredible energy and musicality. Chicago did so much more than just “add a touch of brass to rock ‘n’ roll.” They fused rock, jazz, funk and soul into a sound all their own — a sound celebrated and expanded in an incredible string of hits like “Saturday in the Park,” “Beginnings,” “If You Leave Me Now” and “25 or 6 to 4.” On all counts, Solid Brass succeeds as a proper tribute to the rock institution and all horn bands from the ’60s and ’70s. Dedicated to perfection and with a passion for Chicago’s music, Solid Brass re-creates the excitement of a Chicago concert at the Boca Black Box, much to the delight of newcomers and die-hard fans alike.

Long story short, the other day- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did lunch and I gotta tell you that the Caesar salad, thin crisp crust/sweet sauce pizza, chicken parmigiana sub and sausage & peppers roll that we had- absolutely killed! No bs- KILLED! For you detail oriented guys, Pronto’s cheese pizza plays at a real NYC-pizza level! Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, I’m kinda thinking that the pepperoni and sausage slices that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats scarfed down- could easily hold their own against those served up in the 5 boroughs!

For what it’s worth, Dania Beach ain’t exactly a hop, skip and a jump from- Jeff Eats’ Boca Raton home- but I’m telling you with gas current;y hovering around $1.73-(plus another nickel off for using a Walmart credit card) I got no problem driving down to Pronto! Not to be too redundant here, but its food killed!

Suffice it to say, Jeff Eats highly recommends that you give Pronto New York Style Pizza a shot!

The Amp, The Pompano Beach Amphitheatre, is proud to present one of the world’s finest singers, Aaron Neville, who will be live in concert on Friday, April 8th along with a special set by his brother Art Neville’s band, funky METERS and South Florida band Spred the Dub. Tickets are available January 29th at 10 am at Ticketmaster.

The Grammy-Award winning artist is revisiting the music he grew up with and adding a few spins along the way. His current CD, MY TRUE STORY, is a collection of twelve classic doo-wop numbers, performed in his utterly inimitable vocal style, and co-produced by Blue Note President Don Was and Keith Richards.

The selections on the album include classics by such vocal-group giants as Little Anthony and the Imperials (“Tears on My Pillow”), Hank Ballard and the Midnighters (“Work With Me, Annie”), and the Drifters (“Money Honey,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “This Magic Moment”). To Neville, though, these songs weren’t just the soundtrack to his youth; they became the underpinning for all of the remarkable music he has created across five decades.

“I attended the university of doo-wop-ology,” he says. “Anything I do has got some doo-wop in it. It’s just part of me—it’s the texture that I’m singing in, it’s the endings, it’s the harmonies. At 3 o’clock in the morning, I wake up with a doo-wop song going in my head and I can’t go back to sleep because I’m singing it over and over.”

MY TRUE STORY represents a culmination of Aaron Neville’s incredible career, which has seen him move seamlessly back and forth between solo work and his role in the first family of New Orleans music, the Neville Brothers. His first hit single was the landmark “Tell It Like It Is,” which held the Number One spot on the R&B charts for five weeks in 1967. He went on to win Grammy Awards for his triple-platinum 1989 collaboration with Linda Ronstadt “Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind,” and reached the Country charts with the title track of 1993’s “The Grand Tour.” A member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, his most recent project was the gospel album “I Know I’ve Been Changed” in 2010.

funky METERS:

Formed during an informal jam during the 1989 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Art Neville and George Porter, Jr., founded what would be the core of the funky METERS. The history of founding members Art Neville and George Porter Jr. dates back to 1967, when keyboardist, Art recruited bass player, George, drummer Joseph (Zigaboo) Modeliste and guitarist Leo Nocentelli to form The Meters. In their 31-year history, The Meters have grooved their way around the globe. They have toured with such talents as The Rolling Stones, and have been a studio band for such diverse artists as Dr. John, Paul McCartney, Robert Palmer, and Patti Labelle. The original Meters disbanded in the late 70’s. Today founding members Art Neville and George Porter Jr., are joined by New Orleans native Brian Stoltz on guitar and Terrence Houston on drums and are known officially as the funky METERS. funky METERS tap into the roots of The Meters musical heritage while taking the sound well into the future. Their trademark sound blends funk, blues, and dance grooves with a New Orleans vibe.

Spred the Dub:
Formed in 2007, Spred The Dub has been keeping crowds dancing all over South Florida with their own brand of “Good Time Reggae” music – infusing elements of soul, funk and R&B with a foundation of rocksteady, ska and roots reggae to create sonic landscapes and massive drum & bass rhythms. They have been hard at work making a name for themselves, playing stages all over the state…from local beach bars to club venues, opening for national touring acts like Dirty Heads, The Green, Passafire, and The Movement, as well as reggae legends like The Skatalites, Eek-A-Mouse, Black Uhuru and Yellowman. Their sound is perfect blend of “new style” and “old school” that is sure to get people in the party mood.
