Jeff Eats is a huge “mom & pop” diner fan! Linda’s Winter Park Diner which has been around for 50+ years has the formula figured right! I singled out the joint’s French toast with a side of bacon for special mention- trust me it’s all good at Linda’s!

If you’re like me- that being a fan of the “mom & pop” diner-concept- then you gotta try this joint…you won’t be disappointed!

Got a real good “mom & pop” diner for you guys, Linda’s Winter Park Diner in Winter Park (that figures!)…the joint is open Monday-Saturday 5:30am-2pm, Sunday 6am-1pm. Menu/info- winterparkdiner.com.

Between you guys and Jeff Eats, why anyone would eat in an IHOP, Perkins, Denny’s, First Watch so on and so forth- when they could eat in “a” Linda’s Winter Park Diner is beyond me! Linda’s has been around for something like 50 years, so Jeff Eats is kinda thinking that-it might just know what it’s doing!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats absolutely loved Linda’s Winter Park Diner…and if you’re like us- love dynamite food, pleasant service, reasonable prices, huge portions, “old” diner look & vibe…you will too!

Lindy’s Homemade Italian Ice (Walmart, Winn Dixie)

Posted on April 30th, 2016 · Delray Beach Desserts Fast Food · 15 Comments »

***** Lindy’s Homemade Italian Ice.

Real simple tale to tell you guys…

Last night, Jeff Eats was “roaming” the frozen food section of the Walmart Supercenter located at 16205 South Military Trail, Delray Beach (don’t say nothing!) and I came across Lindy’s Homemade Italian Ice and bought-2 boxes (1 lemon, 1 strawberry- 6 6 oz. cups to a box- $2.43 per box) and I gotta tell you guys- definitely some of the best “supermarket” Italian ices- I’ve had in a very long time!

Jeff Eats did some quick checking at lindysitalianice.com and found that Lindy’s has 11 flavors (the Walmart Jeff Eats went to- only had lemon and strawberry) and in the State of Florida- only Walmart and Winn Dixie carry the brand!

By the way, the “cups” don’t come topped with big delicious scoops of ices-as pictured down below! But you guys knew that already- well, at least some of you did!

Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple recently did dinner- and I gotta tell you, not one person bitched about anything! (Ever hear this one? What did the waiter say to a group of women in Boca Raton who had just finished eating lunch…Was anything OK?)…

Anyway,

Olympia Cafe’s menu is loaded with all kinds of reasonably priced appetizers, soups, salads, Greek pizzas, sandwiches, entrees, desserts- guaranteed you’ll find what to eat! The joint also has a full liquor bar.

Like I said a few seconds ago, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple did dinner- very pleasant service! By the way, just in case you’re wondering, your tee shirt/shorts’ ensemble definitely works there!

On that dinner that Jeff Eats mentioned…Greek salad, gyro platter, chicken souvlaki, moussaka, grilled lamb chops and everything was right on the money! You can can check menu/prices at olympiacafepbg.com.

Let Jeff Eats wrap this one up for you guys, Olympia Cafe is a real good joint!

Go see this guy…Winslow puts on a clever/funny/amazing show!

from bocablackbox.com
Michael was born September 6, 1958 to Robert and Verdie Winslow, on Fairchild Air Force Base with never a dull moment. The youngest of six brothers. His mom tells stories about when he was young he would imitate the airplanes, jet engines, basically anything that made a noise he copied with sounds that came out of his mouth. “Growing up in the Air Force Base made it difficult to have friends, so I created imaginary friends, dogs, cats, trucks, anything that would keep me occupied for the moment” says Michael.

After graduated High School and a short-lived college, he had his first professional performance at a club/theater in Boulder, Colorado named Tulagi’s. This was very exciting for him because Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Tommy Bolin and other famous bands played there (By the way Michael does an incredible imitation on Hendrix’s guitar playing).

He opened and act for a group called “Nova” and Italian Rock Fusion Band, He heard through the grapevine that this group were fans of Jimi Hendrix, so why not portray him? He had lots of props including his mother’s Afro wig. He was so nervous, but the audience was flabbergasted with his rendition of “Purple Haze”. The ovation and the applause from the audience was overwhelming. From that moment on he knew his calling. He wanted to be an entertainer.

Mr. Michael packed his bags and hitchhiked to Venice Beach where he would be homeless for a short time….He Auditioned for the “Gong Show” hosted by the infamous Chuck Barris and he won a whoping $516.32 that finally got him out of homelessness and allowed him to by a vehicle, that took him to Los Angeles to all the local comedy clubs. At this point in time, Bud Friedman, believed in him and featured in him in the famous EVENING AT THE IMPROV (which we all known now as the Comedy Improve Clubs).

Until 1984 when he finally got his BIG CHANCE. Director Hugh Wilson and producer Paul Manslanski came to see him perform at Long Beach Theater where he was opening for the incomparable Count Basie & his Orquestra. Needless to say, Wilson and Manslanski were blown away! They immediately wrote him into the script of the unforgettable “Police Academy I through VII” As soon as this movie came out and it became an instant success so did Michael! His celebrity status was in place. He then went to play a part in Mel Brooks “Spaceballs”. This film helped in furthering his spotlight as a unique comedian. A man with a special talent that made “families” laugh. Michael was also heard, but not seen, when he gave the voice to Stripe, the evil little creature, in another Hit Movie “Gremlins”.

He also did voice-overs for Disney and Universal Studios in such rides as “Back to the Future and Terminator” Currently you can also hear him in the Television Hits “Robot Chicken” and “Family Guy” You can’t miss him on those great “Geico” commercials. And in the spring of 2008 he will grace the red carpet premiere of National Lampoon’s Robo Doc.

Michael, a master of vocal gymnastics, can imitate over 1000 sound effects using his voice alone. Whether he is recreating the frenzy of Jimi Hendrix playing the guitar, or the roar of a jet plane, his talent is truly remarkable and his versatility admirable and enjoyable for all ages!

Got something a-little different for you guys, Peter Fogel’s one man show- ‘Til Death Do Us Part…You First!

In a nutshell, last night at the Boca Black Box (8221 Glades Road, Boca Raton, (561) 483-9036, bocablackbox.com) – Peter Fogel the national headliner comedian and current national touring star of “My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m In Therapy” had a “read through” of his new national touring show ‘Til Death Do Us Part…something like 50 people were there- to listen/watch and critique the upcoming production.

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats were there and I gotta tell you- Fogel had the crowd laughing its ass off for a solid 90 minutes! Trust Jeff Eats, this show is going be a huge hit when it starts making the rounds of casinos, conventions, theaters all across America!

For those of you not familiar with Peter Fogel, the Delray Beach resident is one of the funniest clean-comedians currently working the comedy club/convention circuit today! Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have been Fogel fans for years and last night for the first time it dawned on Jeff Eats that Fogel does one of the best Robert De Niro impersonations on the planet!

Anyway, not going to give away the show’s plot- but think “Scrooge” in a Valentine’s Day setting and you just maybe on the right page!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats can’t wait to see the “full production”- which will debut in South Florida sometime in April, 2016. When a performance schedule is released, Jeff Eats will let you know the where/when and how you can get tickets before anyone else does!

***** The Bagel Store, 754 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11211, (718) 782-5856.

Jeff Eats recently- checked-out The Bagel Store in Brooklyn, New York- and as the saying goes, “Not Your Father’s Buick… I mean Bagel Store!

All Jeff Eats can tell you guys- is that this joint “makes” bagels the likes of which you’ve never seen or tasted before! Basically a takeout (handful of counter seats) joint- all kinds of bagels, fillings/toppings, cash only!

An absolutely amazing “spin” on the bagel business…

You can checkout The Bagel Store at thebagelstoreonline.com.

Social Media and the Millennials have “found” The Bagel Store (actually they probably made The Bagel Store) which has continuous 1-hour lines Saturday-Sunday 7am-5pm, Monday-Friday 6am-5pm- so don’t be surprised to see The Bagel Store “opening” joints elsewhere!

The Joey Dale Story

Posted on April 28th, 2016 · Music/Events/Other · 1 Comment »

* The Joey Dale Story.

Real simple tale to tell you guys…

Jeff Eats has known Joey Dale seemingly forever. For you guys who don’t know “Joey”- he’s the lead singer of the incredibly popular-South Florida based doo-wop group Joey Dale & The Gigolos. Joey is also one of the most active promoters/producers of “oldies” shows in South Florida!

Long story short, 2 weeks ago- Joey self-published his “autobiography”- The Joey Dale Story!

Last night, Jeff Eats read the 250 page book- and I gotta tell you, this guy Joey sure has lived a very interesting and shall we say- a very exciting life!

No ifs, ands, or buts- the book won’t make The New York Times’ Best Sellers List- that said, I found it to be a real-good “light” read- and I’m thinking that many of you guys will too!

You can order a copy of the book and follow Joey Dale & The Gigolos’ dates/productions at joeydale.com.

In the 1970’s I owned the largest AFTER HOURS CLUB in Brooklyn.
10 years ago I was approached by a retired FBI Agent who told me that back then, he was assigned to my club.
The FBI had my club under surveillance . Mob members like John Gotti often visited my place.
The agent told me that the reason my club was never shut down was because they were able to keep an eye on the Mob through my club. Most after hour clubs were shut down within months after opening.
My club remained open for four years.
The FBI instructed the Liquor Authority and the local Police to leave us alone.
I witnessed a murder and many ugly events at that time in my life.
At present I am a successful entertainer and promote some of the best Doo Wop Shows here in South Florida.
I hope you enjoy my story.

Mother’s Day 2016 at III Forks Prime Steakhouse (Hallandale Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jacksonville)

image

* Mother’s Day 2016 at III Folks Prime Steakhouse.

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats just learned from Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats that this year The Eats Family will be celebrating Mother’s Day at III Folks Prime Steakhouse in Hallandale Beach.

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats learned a long-long time ago- that when your grown children want to treat-you, you let them pick the joint and on the appointed day just show up and enjoy the outing!

With the above in mind, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats have picked an absolute homerun restaurant- namely III Forks Prime Steakhouse. Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats are huge fans of this up-scale but unpretentious steakhouse chain- (for our purposes, there are currently 3- Florida joints namely Hallandale Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jacksonville).

Printed down below are a recent III Forks’ press release describing its Mother’s Day 2016- South Florida locations’ “offering’ -as well as Jeff Eats’ past “stories” on III Forks Prime Steakhouse.

For you non math-majors out there, Jeff Eats is thinking that “all-in” this thing is gonna run 65 bucks a head (no booze)- which isn’t too bad of a number!

Two final thoughts, during my entire lifetime I have never met a mother who “turned” on her children! The bastards could be mass murderers and their mothers will swear up and down on a stack of bibles that the kids were good model citizens!-and If you are planning on eating-out for Mother’s Day, make sure you have a restaurant reservation- ’cause it’s a bitch of day to find a joint that isn’t packed to the rafters!

For you guys- out of the loop on this Mothers Day “thing”- it’s on Sunday, May 8, 2016!

_______
Mother’s Day at III Forks Features Three-Course Meal

image

Palm Beach Gardens and Hallandale, Fla. (April 12, 2016) — III Forks is celebrating Mother’s Day, with a special three-course brunch or dinner served from 11 am to 8 pm on Sunday, May 8th. The first course is a choice of either the signature III Forks salad or the steakhouse wedge salad. The second course features three entrée choices: pan-seared red snapper, coffee & coriander rubbed tenderloin or fire roasted red pepper chicken. Dessert choices are a Texas pecan cake or a chocolate mousse. The Mother’s Day special is $48 per person with tea and coffee included. Children under 12 can have a choice of soup or salad, an entrée, and dessert for $18. Prices exclude tax and gratuity.

III Forks Prime Steakhouse is located at 501 Silks Run in The Villages of Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach (954) 457-3920 and at 4645 PGA Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens (561) 630-3660. For more information, visit www.iiiforks.com

III Forks is an “upscale-white tablecloth-steakhouse”…there are currently 4 locations, Boca Raton, Palm Beach Gardens, Austin, Texas and Dallas, Texas. If you check, back on December 23, 2008 I did a writeup on the III Forks located in Palm Beach Gardens. III Forks’ website www.iiiforks.com has menu/prices.

Last night, I gave the III Forks’ Boca location a shot. The joint which has only been open for something like 6 weeks is running like a fine watch…the food and service are terrific. The joint seats 272 with 4 separate dining rooms and an out-door patio.

What makes III Forks an especially beautiful-thing…the restaurant, unlike many of its steakhouse brethern, doesn’t try to take its customers’ eyeballs out of their heads…by charging “highway robbery” prices for every side dish known to mankind. III Forks’ game (quoting from the menu), “All entrees served with duchess potatoes, sugar snap peas, off-the cob cream corn, ripe tomatoes and spring onions.”

For sure, an 18 oz. bone-in ribeye is gonna run you $47.95 and 2 crabcakes will set you back $31.95…but unless you are a glutton for punishment and need-to-order sides not included in the deal, you are going to get a great meal for a sensible number. By the way, on those included-sides…you can have as “much” as you’d like.

Last night’s “taste test”…house salad (lettuce, walnuts, apples, blue cheese) bone-in ribeye, crabcakes, New York strip, dover sole, chocolate cake, cheesecake…excellent. On the service front, a professional-waitstaff that doesn’t take itself too seriously…and a team of managers who visit every table, to make sure that everything is A-Ok.

So…if you are looking for top-notch steaks-seafood, III Forks -got you covered in Boca Raton and Palm Beach Gardens.

III Forks is open Monday-Thursday 5pm-10pm, Friday-Saturday 5pm-11pm and Sunday 5pm-9pm.

III Forks is an “upscale-white table-cloth steakhouse.”

Just so you know, III Forks has three locations…one in Palm Beach Gardens, another in Austin and one in Dallas. III Forks is currently building a fourth location in Boca Raton.

Over the past year or so, I have eaten in the Palm Beach Gardens’ joint twice. Take a look at III Forks’ website www.3forks.com for menu/price/details.

III Forks is a not a “cheap date”…that said, the food-service are top-shelf. Unlike many of its brethern, the staff doesn’t take itself too seriously…in good conscious, IF you want to spend the money, there are only three South Florida “upscale steakhouses” that I can honestly recommend, III Forks, The Striphouse (Palm Becah Gardens) and Manny’s (Miami).

*****Now for something that “maybe” of interest to some of you…III Forks’ has a very interesting New Year’s Eve Party planned. Basically, you get a party with Blood Sweat & Tears and The Miami Sound Machine for regular menu prices. If you don’t want to eat dinner, for $25 you get a drink and can dance in the lounge area. Now keep in mind, that lead singer David Clayton Thomas is no longer with BST… and the same goes for Gloria Estefan and TMSM.

Personally, I go the movie-Chinese Restaurant route on New Year’s Eve…but III Forks’ “deal” does look very interesting.

For the record…III Forks is open for dinner Monday-Thursday 5pm-10pm, Friday & Saturday 5pm-11pm and Sunday 5pm-10pm.
