SICILIAN PEPPERONI PIZZA
$15.45

Tippi’s Pizza

Latest Review: 3/29/15

If you’re looking for a joint to hold your college class reunion at, Tippi’s Pizza ain’t gonna work for you…maybe its got 2-3 tables…that said, definitely one of the best “Sicilian” pies down here in sunny South Florida.

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you- Tippi’s Pizza makes awesome pizzas and dynamite subs. By the way, the joint’s New York Style Pepperoni Pizza is also a huge winner.

This joint is an absolute must try!

Got a real “hole in the wall” pizza joint for you…Tippi’s Pizza in West Palm Beach. Think takeout here- as the joint maybe has 2-3 tables.

Tippi’s Pizza’s menu has a nice selection of appetizers, salads, hot/cold subs, pastas, calzones, pizzas, meat/chicken/seafood entrees.

A few days ago I took some stuff out from Tippi’s…large plain pizza, meatball parmigiana sub, veal parmigiana sub, sausage & peppers sub, —every item was right on the money. Now I don’t want to “intrude” on my pals over at www.worstpizza.com domain–but I think, that Tippi’s pizza could successfully be sold at any NYC pizza joint. The slice, crisp-thin crust/sweet sauce/delicious cheese and when folded and pointed down- had the requisite oil drip. The $7 subs were also “perfect”—nice hard- crusty sub roll and the messy fillings were exactly what I like when I’m in front of the tv with a 2-liter bottle of Coke to wash things down.

Let me close this story out this way…if Tippi’s was in my neighborhood, I’d be a very good customer.

Tippi’s Pizza is open Monday-Thursday 11am-11pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-midnight, Sunday 11am-10pm

Latest Review: 9/6/15

Jet’s Pizza is a national “takeout” pizza chain. I’m thinking that it currently has something like 350 stores in 17 maybe 18 states.

Last week, Jeff Eats “tried for the first time and took-out twice” from the Jet’s Pizza which opened in Boca Raton-3/15. Night #1 it was the Signature 8 Corner Pizza, Night #2 it was the Signature 8 Corner Pizza with pepperoni and a Jet’s Boat (think calzone and you’ll be thinking right- stuffed with mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce, sausage, pepperoni and topped with butter/Romano cheese- $8.99) and I gotta tell you, the pizza and boat blew me away. No ifs, ands, or buts-one of the best “calzones” that I’ve ever had- as for the pizza, think Sicilian/deep dish and it was absolute dynamite. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, if Mrs. Jeff Eats let me-do this joint twice in one week, the food had to have killed! Trust me, the lady…before I get in trouble here, let’s just leave it- that the food killed!

Like I said, Jet’s is a national takeout pizza chain. Some stores have seating, the one in Boca Raton -no seating. By the way, there are a ton of Jet’s Pizza joints in Florida- you can check jetspizza.com for locations/menu/info. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats- this Jet’s Pizza is one-hot franchise with a huge number of stores currently In development!

Let me wrap this up for you, that Signature 8 Corner Pizza and Jet’s Boat were terrific. Jet’s also has other types of pizzas, salads, wings, subs- so there is plenty of stuff to choose from.

Look!

Jeff Eats knows his crowd- and right about now, some of you guys must be saying…Hey Jeff, you-losing your freaking mind or what? This Jet’s is a takeout chain and these kind of joints make cheap garbage-so you been smoking or something?

Putting the “smoking” aside for the moment,

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats LOVED the pizza and the boat…

I’m telling you guys, give this chain a shot!

12 Health Benefits of Cantaloupe

Posted on June 23rd, 2017 · American Desserts Music/Events/Other · 6 Comments »

* 12 Health Benefits of Cantaloupe.

After reading ’12 Health Benefits of Cantaloupe’-Jeff Eats is kinda thinking that- it wouldn’t hurt to add a steady dose of cantaloupe to my diet!

from draxe.com

12 Health Benefits of Cantaloupe

Cantaloupe Melon

1. Great Source of Antioxidants Vitamin A and Vitamin C
Thanks to its high supply of antioxidants vitamin A and vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid, cantaloupe nutrition helps to stop free radical damage by battling oxidative stress in the body.(2) According to research, disease prevention is one major public health benefit that can be achieved by increasing consumption of carotenoid-rich fruits and vegetables, including cantaloupe. (3)

Cantaloupe contains two types of vitamin A antioxidants called beta-carotene and alpha-carotene. And because it contains both of these carotenoids, it also contains some of their derivatives including lutein, beta-cryptoxanthin and zeaxanthin.

A growing body of literature exists regarding the effects of these antioxidants and other carotenoids on chronic diseases in humans, especially related to how they can reduce dangerous inflammation. Inflammation and free radical damage are tied to the formation of various diseases, therefore consuming cantaloupe is an excellent way to build the body’s defense against age-related conditions and to keep the body feeling young and healthy.

2. Fights Cancer with Powerful Phytochemicals
Cantaloupe is a rich source of antioxidant flavonoids such as beta-carotene, lutein, zea-xanthin and cryptoxanthin. These antioxidants have a protective role in the body and the ability to protect cells and other structures from DNA damage and stresses caused by free radicals. For this reason, studies have shown that cantaloupe can be useful in preventing colon, prostate, breast, endometrial, lung, and pancreatic cancer.

Studies show that cantaloupe’s antioxidants and cucurbitacins result in cancerous cell apoptosis, or self-destruction of the cancerous cells. These helpful chemical pheromones exist naturally in plants in order to protect the plants from external damage, but they also do the same within the human body. Cucurbitacins for example repeatedly show anti-cancer activities within the body when studied, ranging from anti-proliferation, cell cycle arrest, and cell apoptosis.

It’s believed that these compounds have apoptotic effects because they are able to enter the nuclear of the cell where the DNA or genes are stored and to activate apoptotic proteins that destroy harmful cells. (4)(5)

Additionally, many other studies have shown that consuming high amounts of fruit and vegetable sources that are naturally rich in vitamin A and vitamin C is one of the best ways to prevent cell mutation. Including 5 or more fruits and vegetables in your diet everyday can help protect from lung, colon, prostate, and oral cavity cancers because of these positive protective effects.

3. Contains Anti-inflammatory Properties
Studies have shown that in experiments lower levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) are present within the bloodstream of people who have particularly high intakes of cantaloupe and other fruits. Since CRP is a marker widely used to assess levels of inflammation in the body, this shows positive results for cantaloupe stopping dangerous inflammation and autoimmune responses that can lead to disease.

The anti-inflammatory benefits of cantaloupe nutrition stem back to its cucurbitacins, including cucurbitacin B and cucurbitacin E. These are two known anti-inflammatory compounds which can effectively alleviate pain and symptoms caused by inflammatory diseases.(6)

4. May Help Prevent Heart Disease
Heart disease, including atherosclerosis, is often attributed to high levels of inflammation as one of the leading causes. Many heart-related problems like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and a risk for heart attack or stroke start out with chronic unwanted inflammation and chronic oxidative stress. Cantaloupe nutrition’s cucurbitacins may prove useful in the treatment of different forms of heart disease because of their anti-inflammatory abilities

The most significant mechanisms with regard to cantaloupe’s anti-inflammatory abilities can be found in the fruit’s roots and rind. In fact plants belonging to these Cucurbitaceae species, which cantaloupe does, have been used as folk medicines in some countries for hundreds of years because of their wide spectrum of pharmacological activities such as reducing inflammation and the risk for heart disease and cancer.(7)

5. Boosts Immunity
The carotenes and antioxidants found in cantaloupe help to boost the immune system and to prevent infections. (8)

One specific carotenoid, beta-carotene, is especially known for boosting immunity and other chronic diseases. Studies suggest that beta-carotene may enhance immune cell function and this is the reason why it is so useful in combatting notCheck it out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in12THaZvss only common illnesses, but serious conditions like cancer too. (9)

6. Helps Muscle Recovery & Stamina
Cantaloupe offers a moderate amount of the electrolyte potassium, with about 14% of your daily needs in every cup. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids. It helps to control a normal heart rate and to regulate healthy blood pressure. It also offers protection against heart disease, stroke, and other problems because of its importance in regulating heart and cell function.

Additionally, the potassium found in cantaloupe is an important nutrient for athletes or those who are especially active. Potassium is considered a vasodilator because it releases the tension of blood vessels and helps increase blood flow. This allows for quicker muscle recovery and reduced stress on the body as you build muscle, strength and endurance.

7. Protects Eye Health
Cantaloupe nutrition supplies important nutrients that play a vital role in protecting eye health including beta carotene, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, lutein, and zeaxanthin.

Zea-xanthin for example is an important carotenoid that is absorbed into the eye’s retinal where it is thought to provide antioxidant and protective UV light-filtering functions. And other studies show that carotenoids help to retard some of the destructive processes in the retina and the retinal pigment lining which lead to age-related macular degeneration.(10)

Since numerous studies have shown that a serious vitamin A or vitamin C deficiency can lead to glaucoma and macular degeneration, or a thickening of the cornea, and even eventually even to blindness, cantaloupe is a great way to prevent such disorders from developing.

8. Protects Skin Health
Orange colored foods, including carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and of course cantaloupe, are also high sources of cartenoids which can reduce skin cancer risk. They are also useful of relieving pain and damage associated with sunburns and preventing signs of aging on the skin including fine lines, discoloration, and wrinkles.

9. Good for Digestion
Cantaloupe is an especially hydrating fruit, very high in water, as most types of melon are. Cantaloupe is made up of a high percentage of water, which the digestive tract needs to stay hydrated, to detoxify the body, and to properly expel toxins and waste out gut. Cantaloupe is also known to be easy on digestion and is free of FODMAPs, which are difficult to digest carbohydrates that can trigger symptoms related to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and other digestive disorders.

10. Helps the Body to Detox
Cantaloupe nutrition is again rich with electrolytes which also help the body to detox and rid itself of excess water and fluids. This is helpful in relieving uncomfortable symptoms of bad digestion including bloating and swelling. Potassium acts as an electrolyte and promotes blow flow and hydration levels within the body, and allows oxygen to reach your cells. At the same time, it’s useful in balancing water retention in the gut and keeping you from becoming dehydrated, which can stop cases of diarrhea.

11. Restores the Body’s pH Level
Additionally melon varieties, including cantaloupe, are considered to be alkaline foods. This means they are able to help bring the pH level of the body back to its natural level. It’s believed that disease has a much harder time developing in an alkaline environment inside the body, compared to a more acidic system, so eating cantaloupe and other alkaline-forming foods can protect your body from inflammation and disease formation.

12. Low in Calories and Help Support Weight Loss
Cantaloupe contains only 60 calories per cup and is high in water and various nutrients, making a great addition to any weight loss plan. Cantaloupe is a food with a high nutrient density based on the low amount of calories it has, but the high amounts of health benefits it offers overall.

Since those following a low calorie diet can sometimes experience nutrient deficiencies, poor digestion, low immunity, and weakness, adding cantaloupe to your diet can help to balance these risks and ensure you’re acquiring plenty of vitamins and minerals in the process of losing weight.

Can’t Explain it!

For years, Jeff Eats has been hearing some terrific things about Villa Rose Pizza (its been around since 1957) and the fabulous pizza that it makes—yet in all those years, I never got over there to try its pizza or food. Like I just said, can’t explain this!

Anyway, last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats were doing a “takeout” from Spadini’s Pizzeria in Boca Raton and while waiting for our order, we-got to talking with a lovely couple with two young children…blah blah blah and business cards were exchanged. Later that evening, Jeff Eats received the “below” e-mail from Chris Florea who we had spoken with earlier that evening. As you’ll read, he is a HUGE fan of Villa Rose Pizza.

Chris has now got Jeff Eats’ juices pumping…and I plan to get down to Villa Rose sometime in the next 30-days.

If you have been to Villa Rose, drop me a note on the joint…if you haven’t, Jeff Eats’ “gut call” says Villa Rose is a must-try.

You can check www.villarosepizza.com for menu/prices/other stuff.

Villa Rose Pizza is open Sunday-Thursday 11:30am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11:30am-11pm.

Update, January 7, 2014…

Last night, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “finally” made it down to Villa Rose Pizza and suffice it to say–the pizza was spectacular…thin crust, dynamite cheese with a sweet sauce. In addition to the pizza we also ordered Greek salad, -veal parmigiana sub, penne ala vodka–and I gotta tell you like the pizza, delicious–not “spectacular” delicious but neighborhood “mom & pop” red sauce-delicious.

For you Fancy Dans out there, Villa Rose is definitely not for you…this is the consummate “hole in the wall” with a handful of tables, small eat at bar-counter and a decor that has to date back to when the joint first opened in 1957…

Villa Rose Pizza is a homerun…can’t believe I didn’t get to it sooner!

Subject: Best Ultra Thin Crust Pizza
Message Body:
Hey Jeff , met you tonight at Spadinis pizza in Boca Raton. You were taking out
and I was with my girlfriend and kids. Have to tell you about Villa Rose and the
incredible little gem of a pizza joint it is. Its right up your alley, trust me
on this one. The place is located in Hollywood Florida on 441 ( SR7) just north
of Hollywood Blvd. They have been in the same hole in the wall location for over
50 years and I have been enjoying that pie for at least a third of that time
whenever I am down that way! I have gone there for one thing and one thing
only!! Their signature ultra thin crust pizza, which in my opinion is the best
around! I havent found anything close to the quality of that pie! Especially
for a conventional oven baked pizza. The pizzas come to the table round and cut
in squares. The pie has a tangy/sweet delicious sauce and topped with quality
mozzarella. I prefer cheese with green pepper, onion, and pepperoni ( never
never and never soggy or wilting). The pie is
just incredible, especially when partnered with an icy cold pepsi or coke. The
plain pie is also delicious. I am not able to fill you in on the rest of the
menu because the pizza is all I ever eat there. You HAVE to try this pie!!!
Every single person I sent packing down to Hollywood to try this out has raved
about it afterward. I hope you give a whirl and I look forward to reading your
posts about it!! Happy Eating, Chris
