* Drink Tangerine Juice.

This article originally appeared on October 13, 2014. Do Jeff Eats a big favor and give-it-a-read! Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, no-one really knows for sure- how the future is gonna break for them! You guys can do what you’d like with this Tangerine “information”- all I can tell you is that it makes a whole lot of sense to me!

* Drink Tangerine Juice.

One of Jeff Eats’ favorite “drinks” is fresh squeezed tangerine juice.

Take a look at the below-article -Health Benefits of Tangerine Juice (juicebenefits.com)-I already knew the stuff was really good for me, but didn’t know that it was REALLY THAT GOOD for me!

Now, with tangerine season (November-April) nearing…Jeff Eats was thinking- just maybe, it wouldn’t hurt for you guys to plan on drinking an 8oz glass a day, could it? Just so we are straight, I got a “D” in junior high school biology- so if you go into diabetic shock or some other “shock” drinking this stuff- don’t-be suing Jeff Eats based on the claim that I’m some kind of a science/health expert!

By the way, Jeff Eats doesn’t “do” PASTEURIZED fresh squeezed tangerine juice…there are plenty of south Florida markets that have unpasteurized fresh squeezed tangerine juice. The reasons- 1. unpasteurized juice tastes better than the tinkered stuff- does, 2. pasteurizing cooks many of the nutrients out of the juice. Just so you know, don’t waste your time “looking” in Publix- EVERY juice it stocks is pasteurized…I usually catch mine at The Boys Farmers Market (Delray Beach) or Whole Foods Market.

One final thought, if you haven’t got time to go “chasing” around looking for unpasteurized fresh squeezed tangerine juice–you can always just buy some tangerines at your local supermarket and do whatever you want with them…

*****
Health Benefits of Tangerine Juice.

Aside from being sweet and flavorful, tangerine juice has many benefits for your health. In terms of nutritional value and disease-fighting properties, tangerine juice has several advantages over orange juice. From protecting you from diseases and cancer to keeping you fuller longer, this juice has a health benefit for nearly everyone.

Nutritional Value – The Source Of The Health Benefits Of Tangerine Juice
Tangerine juice has all of the tangy flavor of orange juice but with added nutrition. This juice is an excellent source of many antioxidants, such as hesperetin, xanthins, lutein, beta-carotene, and narigenin. Anti-oxidants eliminate free radicals that can cause cancer, as well as fight aging. The anti-oxidant beta cryptoxanthin may reduce inflammation from arthritis. Lutein protects the eyes and helps you keep your eyesight sharp. The flavenoid tangeretin is a powerful agent that has been shown in studies to prevent skin cancer and helps stop the spread of breast-cancer cells. The flavonoids tangeretin and nobiletin have blood thinning and anti-inflammatory properties, which may reduce your risk of heart attacks.

Additionally, tangerine juice is chock-full of vitamin C, which boosts your immunity. Consuming adequate amounts of vitamin C helps your body fight infections from the common cold to the flu. In addition to helping increase your immune function, vitamin C helps your body absorb iron, and helps boost wound healing.

Tangerine juice contains folic acid and potassium, and it is also an excellent source of both soluble and insoluble fiber, which promotes regularity. Being regular has been proven to reduce your risk for developing some forms of cancer, such as colon cancer. The fiber also helps prevent your body from absorbing cholesterol. Fiber whisks some of the cholesterol content from your food out of your system, which can lower your blood levels of LDL, or “bad” cholesterol.

One serving of tangerine juice provides 20-percent of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin A. This is 10-times as much vitamin A as orange juice. Vitamin A is instrumental in protecting your eyesight, promoting immune function and bone and tissue health. The vitamin A in tangerine juice may also stimulate cell growth and cell division.

Antiseptic Properties
Tangerines have natural germ-fighting properties. Tangerine juice may help your body defend itself against an infection from the staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus is highly contagious and causes painful lesions and boils on the skin, particularly on the face or in other tender areas such as the groin or the armpits.

In addition to fighting harmful bacteria, the pectin in tangerine juice has been proven to help increase the number of beneficial bacteria in your intestines. These bacteria improve digestion and increases your body’s ability to defend against harmful bacteria which can cause inflammation and intestinal disorders. When harmful bacteria enter the gut, beneficial bacteria help usher the bad bacteria out of your system before they can cause an infection.

Diet Support
Tangerine juice is an excellent way to start your day if you are dieting. The fiber and carbohydrates in the juice help keep you feeling full, which will prevent over-indulgence later on. Additionally, the sweet finish of the tangerine flavor can help prevent the cravings for sugar that can derail a diet.

Starting your day with tangerine juice is a tasty and healthy way to boost your immunity, bolster your digestive and tissue health and protect your body against the ravages of cancer. Tangerine juice is powerful enough to do all of those things, yet it is so tangy-sweet and flavorful that you will forget all about its many health benefits and simply enjoy the flavor.

Jeff Eats could eat breakfast and lunch at Kristol’s Kafe everyday- if you let me!

This joint is an absolute home-run!

***** Kristof’s Kafe, 8912 West State Road 84, Davie, Florida 33324, (954) 475-8977.

Let Jeff Eats start by saying that Kristof’s Kafe is my kinda joint…a “mom & pop” diner–that serves terrific food, has super pleasant service/big portions and reasonable prices.

You can check menu/prices/photos at www.kristofskafe.com.

Jeff Eats recently tried Kristof’s for breakfast and I gotta tell you, that the- banana caramel french toast, western omelette, cinnamon challah french toast, country fried steak “sampled” were absolutely dynamite. No ifs or buts–this was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a very long time… Just so we are straight, I “did” breakfast—so how Kristof’s lunch/dinner stuff is-is open to conjecture—based on breakfast, I’d bet that those meals are real-strong. While I’m pontificating here, you guys do know, that Jeff Eats has never met a bagel, bialy, french toast or omelette that he didn’t like–but like everything in life-there are degrees…you got your IHOPs and then you got your Kristof’s-like I said, a matter of degrees. By the way-I take back that claim to having never met an omelette I didn’t like…check Jeff Eats 9/26/10 “story” on Cup ‘N Saucer in Lake Worth…Mrs. Jeff Eats says, I got a memory like an elephant (we’ll leave it at that).

Anyway…

Jeff Eats really enjoyed Kristof’s Kafe.

Kristof’s Kafe is open Sunday-Wednesday 8am-3pm, Thursday-Saturday 8am-9pm…breakfast served Monday-Saturday 8am-noon, Sunday all day.

Veterans Day!

Posted on November 11th, 2017 · American Music/Events/Other · No Comments »

* Veterans Day!

From Wikipedia.org
Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11, that honors military veterans; that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I; major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The United States previously observed Armistice Day. The U.S. holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service.[1]

***** Bruce’s Of Great Neck, 19575 South State Road 7, Boca Raton, Florida 33498, (561) 483-2331.

Here’s a heads up for you guys…

From 1970-2012 a guy named Bruce Zipes owned/operated a series of bakery/deli restaurants in Long Island and New York City under the name Bruce’s Bakery & Restaurant…talk about-terrific cakes, cookies, pastries, bagels, breads…

Anyway…

Jeff Eats has absolutely no idea as to why the last NY-Bruce’s closed in February 2012…what I do know, is that about four months ago, Bruce Zipes (“Bruce”) bought the Mitch’s Westside Bagels Too (reviewed 2/9/09) Boca Raton store, renaming it Bruce’s Of Great Neck. Like Mitch’s, Bruce’s Of Great Neck does breakfast/lunch 7 days a week–open 7am-3pm.

Just so we are straight, 1991 was the last time that Jeff Eats “ate” stuff from Bruce’s New York outposts. For the purposes of this column, I’m gonna assume that Mr. Zipes still knows how to bake- but then again back in ’91 Jeff Eats had a 33 inch waist and wore a 15-31 shirt.

To make a long story short, yesterday I stopped by Bruce’s Of Great Neck around 3pm just as the store was closing for the day. My sole purchase was a bakers dozen of bagels—and I gotta tell you, that the everything/garlic/onion/pumpernickle/whole wheat were -really good…I will also tell you, that Bruce’s display cases were filled with great looking cookies, cakes, pastries, rolls.

For those of you-not familiar with Bruce’s New York business–it was an extremely popular bakery/New York kosher-style deli. For the record, Jeff Eats “knows” about the baked goods–but never ate in any of the restaurants. Just so you know, Bruce’s was “famous” for its complimentry bread basket which had all kinds of rolls and pastries-that was served in the restaurant…now, not to get all nostalgic or nothing, but “think” Wolfie Cohen’s Rascal House in Sunny Isles Beach–Senior’s Restaurant in Brooklyn–Junior’s Restaurant in Brooklyn–Cooky’s Restaurant in Brooklyn and you’ll appreciate why Bruce’s had a huge New York following.

The big question: Is Zipes’ plan to make Bruce’s Of Great Neck “like” Bruce’s Bakery & Restaurant namely 1/2 bakery–1/2 deli…or is the plan to keep the “generic” bagel formula that Westside had?

Let’s wrap this one up…first, if you are confused by all of the Bruce’s here, me too!- second, you guys now know about Bruce’s Of Great Neck a new “?” in Boca Raton.

Jeff Eats has Bruce’s on his “try” list. I’ll keep you guys posted as to what’s what!

***** UPDATE: April 9, 2014…

This morning, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats finally got a chance to “get over” to Bruce’s for breakfast.

Real simple order… western omelet/home fries/toasted-everything bagel and an American cheese omelet/home fries/toasted onion bagel–all A-OK! When we sat down, the waitress delivered a complimentary plate of “baked goods” samples–which was a real nice touch. When leaving, we purchased a chocolate babka and I gotta tell you, the babka was off the chart–absolutely delicious. We also “took home” 1-lb. of chicken salad, 1-lb. of tuna salad -really good stuff. On prices/service–South Florida bagel store-norm. One strange thing, we also took home a mixed dozen-bagels and I gotta tell you these “13” weren’t as good as the bagels we had gotten back in December. Now nothing for nothing, they weren’t terrible or anything like that- but I can name right off the top of my head 11 Boca Raton-Delray Beach bagel joints that make better ones. Sorry, but I can’t explain why the “batches” were different. Hopefully, Bruce’s will figure this-puzzle out.

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, Bruce’s Of Great Neck is a real good (that’s assuming the bagel “puzzle” is figured out) bagel-deli!

You can check menu/prices at www.brucesofgreatneck.com

Bruce’s is open 7 days a week 7am-3pm.
