***** Basilico’s Original Hand-Tossed Pizza, 9140 Forest Hill Boulevard, Wellington, Florida 33411, (561) 333-4949.

Last night, Jeff Eats took-out from red sauce Italian joint… Basilico’s Original Hand-Tossed Pizza in Wellington. and I gotta tell you, this restaurant makes some really delicious stuff.

Real simple concept, order at the counter/takeout…or the food is delivered to something like 6 inside booths/handful of outside tables. By the way, the restaurant is located in a very quaint cool looking “New England” style strip-center…which also has a Chinese joint, a Dunkin’ Donuts, an ice cream store, a custom cake- making store, a liquor store–you won’t think- you’re in Florida! Real interesting, in addition to ice cream and yogurt-the ice cream store sells fresh orange juice quarts/gallons-candy by the pound, and has a whole area for fresh flowers…the Chinese joint which is basically a takeout has 4 large 6- seat booths-for those who want to eat-in. Like I said 1 second ago, the strip center has a real different feel to it!

Anyway…

Jeff Eats “got to” Basilico’s around 6:30pm last night and there was something like 8 guys behind the counter making pizzas etc. and 2 young ladies at the register. In the 25 minutes or so that I waited for my order, every booth inside was taken and I watched numerous pickups and phone orders being taken…I didn’t notice anyone eating outside.

Basilico’s menu is loaded with appetizers, salads, pizzas, pastas, strombolis, calzones, hot/cold subs, entrees. You can check its menu/prices at basilicospizza.com.

Ordered items included large 16″ pizza ($9.99), Chicken parmesan sub ($7.99), sausage & peppers stromboli ($6.79), eggplant parmesan entrée (pasta side/garlic breadsticks- $10.59) and like I said 3 seconds ago, the stuff was really delicious.

Look!

Jeff Eats has been to his fair share of red sauce Italian joints down here in south Florida and- this Basilico’s joint is a huge winner. The food was really-solid, the prices CHEAP (I believe I’m suppose to say inexpensive or very reasonable)-trust me, Basilico’s gives you a ton of food for cheap-money-and the food isn’t crap quality!

Let me wrap this up for you, if Basilico’s was by my house (which unfortunately it isn’t) Jeff Eats would definitely be a very steady customer.

Basilico’s Original Hand-Tossed Pizza is open 7 days a week.

* JIVE FIVE LEAD SINGER EUGENE PITT DIES AT 80.

Fifty six years ago- unbeknownst to a 24 year old black doo wop lead singer from Brooklyn named Eugene Sampson Pitt his songs “My True Story” and “What Time Is It?” made a chubby white Jewish 12 year old boy from Brooklyn fall in love with doo wop and Rock N Roll forever…

Gene, in the ensuing years our paths sadly only crossed once- but trust me, you and the other members of Jive Five helped light the passion!
Rest In Peace

from mybeachradio.com
Quoting a line from his biggest hit, “We must cry, cry, cry our blues away.” Famed lead singer of the JIVE FIVE, EUGENE PITT has died at the age of 80. His biggest hit was “MY TRUE STORY” – a Top Three smash in the early 1960s. Eugene was able to follow that hit up with numerous others including “What Time Is It,” “Never Never,” “These Golden Rings” and “I’m a Happy Man.” Eugene continued to tour with his group until recently. He and his amazing music will be missed.

Our order: 1- 10” Cheese Steak sub, 1- slice of cheese pizza, 2- 10” Chicken Bomb subs! Like I just said, off the chart delicious! Now you guys and I both know that this food reviewing “gig” is just a big old subjective call- like what I think is hot, you may think is cold and vice versa- with that in mind, I am telling you that Mama Maria’s Chicken Bomb subs were right up there with the best Chicken Bombs that Jeff Eats and for that matter Mrs. Jeff Eats have had since this blog’s 2006 debut! Like I said, “subjective”- but trust me when I tell you, off the chart delicious! By the way, the cheese pizza was a New York Style thin crisp crust/ sweet sauce slice- it and the Cheese Steak sub like the Chicken Bombs were absolutely delicious!

Let me wrap Mama Maria’s Pizzeria up by saying- if this joint wasn’t 221 miles away from the Eats’ Boca Raton abode- we would definitely be real steady customers.

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, I’m kinda thinking that “they” aren’t gonna be beating down the doors to see this lineup! Between you and me, pricing tickets at $77.50/ $67.50/ $47.50 is absolutely absurd…That said, as we get closer to the show’s date (for old times’ sake) I’m probably gonna pick-up a couple of tickets (which I’m betting are gonna be discounted).

Just announced…

You heard right (actually, it’s read right) TERRIFIC!

Real simple tale to tell- the joint has been around since 1952. Wait-staff service- handful of inside counter seats/ outside tables / eat in your vehicle.

Yesterday- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats found this joint and I gotta tell you, TERRIFIC! Come on! 1952- flat top grilled burgers, french fries, onion rings!

Now just between you guys and Jeff Eats- why someone wouldn’t be happy with just a cheeseburger/ french fries/ onion rings/ Coke and a load of ketchup- is beyond me…that said, if you just happen to be one of these malcontents- you will find (if you check the above The Burger Inn menu) plenty of other stuff to eat, so you won’t starve- if for some reason you should one day find yourself at The Burger Inn in Melbourne, Florida.

Discarded napkin helps US police crack 32-year-old murder mystery

AFP AFPJune 23, 2018

An illustration of the double helix, the molecular shape of a double-stranded DNA molecule.

Washington (AFP) – The mystery of the sexual assault and murder of a US teenager in Washington state has been resolved 32 years after the crime thanks to a discarded napkin, DNA tests and genetic genealogy.

Gary Hartman, 66, has been arrested and is scheduled to appear in court Monday on rape and murder charges in the case, which has long shocked the city of Tacoma, in the northwestern US state.

It began on March 26, 1986, when 12-year-old Michella Welch disappeared while playing with her two young sisters at a park.

A police dog found her remains that evening in a ravine, but the investigation bogged down and was eventually filed as an unresolved “cold case.”

Fast forward to the 21st century, when advances in the research field of DNA — the human genetic code — helped reinvigorate the probe.

In 2006 police scientists managed to reconstruct a DNA imprint from items collected at the crime scene, although no link was found to any known offender in the United States.

Twelve years later progress came thanks to genetic genealogy, with its vast databases and archives, including from people researching their family history using DNA testing kits from companies like 23andMe and Ancestry.com.

“Genetic genealogy uses DNA technology to identify subjects by matching the unknown profile to a family member,” Tacoma Police Chief Don Ramsdell told reporters on Friday.

“Traditional genealogy is then used to build a family tree from publicly available websites,” he said.

The technology led police to two brothers, whose age and place of residence in 1986 eventually made them suspects. They were placed under surveillance as police waited for a chance to verify their genetic profiles.

Gary Hartman recently ate at a restaurant, oblivious to undercover investigator sitting at a neighboring table.

When Hartman left the investigator collected his used napkin and sent it to a lab for analysis — and discovered that the DNA matched that found on Michella Welch’s body.

“This case does truly represent the crossroads of good old-fashioned police work combined with improvements in technology,” Ramsdell said.

Pierce County prosecutor Mark Lindquist had a warning to criminals.

“Today we are at a point where, if you are a criminal and you left your DNA at the scene, you might as well turn yourself in now. We will catch you,” he said.

In April, genetic geneology led to the arrest in California of a man suspected of being the “Golden State Killer” — blamed for 12 murders, some 50 rapes and scores of robberies
