I just did a writeup on Wall’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream…and I was thinking that I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you about a terrific “mom and pop” Southern Italian Red Sauce joint named The Big Cheese which is located directly across the street from Wall’s…this way, you can kill two birds with one stone—eating pizza, pasta etc. and then topping the meal off with ice cream. If you are dieting, don’t read any further.

Take a look at The Big Cheese’s website at bigcheesemiami.com for a full “explanation” of its menu/pricing. Absolutey delicious pizza, pastas, subs, entrees all at very- very reasonable prices. This joint been around for something like 25 years and has an enormous following.

The Big Cheese is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

Crazy Wok is a Chinese takeout joint. There are 2- locations, 1-in Coral Springs, 1-in Fort Lauderdale (2392 North Federal Highway)- this “story” is about the Coral Springs’ location.

Real simple story…

Last Saturday night, Jeff Eats was over-by my friend Peter’s house watching football…we ordered some Chinese stuff from Crazy Wok. We picked-up the food and Peter caught the bill…hey! it’s his house…you eat by me, I pickup the bill!

To make a long story short, we did wonton soup, egg rolls, boneless spare ribs, pan fried dumplings, General Tsao’s chicken, moo shu beef, roast pork fried rice…and I gotta tell you, the food was right on the money. Now you know and Jeff Eats knows that this food-reviewing gig is purely a subjective game. What I like you might hate and vice versa. You also do know, that what I might find sweet, you may find bitter-so forth and so on. That’s why, I very rarely kill time, telling you-what something tastes like! Suffice it to say, (as they say in internet land— imho) Crazy Wok turned out some really delicious “American” Chinese food. For those of you-looking for “real” or shall I say “authentic” Chinese food-like West Lake Fish in Vinegar Sauce (yeah-I know it sounds absolutely amazing!) you can cross Crazy Wok off-your list.

Finally…good free food, good company and a win by my University of Arizona Wildcats…made for a very pleasant evening.

One last thought, some of you guys may be wondering…If Jeff Eats went to Ithaca College and Brooklyn Law School and Mrs. Jeff Eats went to Brooklyn College…then how does the U of A work its way into the conversation? Easy, Son Jeff Eats went to U of A and Daughter Jeff Eats went to University of Connecticut- thus the RELATIONSHIPS…very expensive RELATIONSHIPS but RELATIONSHIPS nonetheless! Now that I look back, why these two scholars couldn’t- go to school in-state, is beyond Jeff Eats’ comprehension- we’ll save that discussion for another day…

Got a real good Italian Ice/Soft Serve Ice Cream/Gelati joint for you guys to checkout, Jeremiah’s Italian Ice in Boca Raton.

Real simple tale to tell, Jeremiah’s is a fast growing Italian Ice franchise (since 2019) which currently has stores spread-out over Florida. Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas. Three weeks ago, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff “discovered” Jeremiah’s Boca Raton joint and have been back 5 times since that initial outing. Order/pickup at inside counter/outside walk-up windows, handful of inside/outside tables, reasonably priced- 40 rotating and seasonal Italian Ice flavors/ vanilla-chocolate soft serve/ loads of toppings menu.

Now, just between you and me, I kinda think that I know my Italian Ices and Soft Serve Ice Cream and I’m telling you guys that Jeremiah’s Italian Ice is turning out absolutely delicious stuff!

Like I said a few seconds ago, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have been to Jeremiah’s 6 times (between 7:30-9:30pm) and each and every time- there were lines both inside and outside with people waiting to order. In addition, every table inside/ outside was taken. Of interest, all ages were there.

Not sure as to how it all plays out franchise wise, but for right now, the Jeremiah’s (which opened in Boca Raton on June 28th, 2021)) looks like a home-run business!

The burger is 6.4 ounces, or 40 percent of a pound.

Arby’s coined catch phrase “We have the Meats” is taking on a new meaning.

On Monday, the country’s second-largest sandwich chain (in terms of footprint) released the premium Wagyu Steakhouse Burger, its first hamburger.

Roughly 52 percent of the meat is American Wagyu, which is a blend of Japanese Wagyu and high-quality continental breeds of cattle, the company said. The remaining 48 percent is ground beef. It’s is topped with American cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onion, and a special burger sauce on a toasted buttery brioche bun. Customers are able to add bacon and ranch to add even more flavor. The menu innovation is cooked using sous vide style, which “locks in juices and rich flavor, producing a juicy, tender burger with a slightly pink center.”

“Premium Wagyu is normally reserved for the finest steakhouses, but the meat experts at Arby’s are now bringing it to the masses,” the company said in a statement.

The burger is 6.4 ounces, or 40 percent of a pound, making it more than 50 percent larger than McDonald’s Quarter Pounder. Starting at $5.99, it will be available from May 23 to July 31.

“Boring Burgers are a fast-food staple, so Arby’s felt compelled to raise the bar with a Wagyu Steakhouse Burger. “Instead of focusing on making billions of mediocre burgers, we’re taking a stance on high-quality meat that deserves to be cooked properly,” CMO Patrick Schwing said in a statement. “As the meat experts, we’ve spent over two years of dedicated research and development to deliver a premium burger that redefines what’s possible from a drive thru. Overdone burgers are over and done.”

The Wagyu Steakhouse Burger is the latest example of Arby’s innovating outside the sandwich space. In March 2021, the chain added crinkle fries as a permanent menu item to go alongside its classic curly fries. Later in the year, the fast-food chain launched six-piece boneless wings available in a Classic Buffalo Sauce and Hot Honey Sauce.

Arby’s is coming off a successful 2021 in which U.S. same-store sales rose 5.2 percent year-over-year and 11.7 percent on a two-year stack. Parent company Inspire Brands, which also owns, Dunkin’, Baskin-Robbins, Sonic Drive-In, Jimmy John’s, Rusty Taco, and Buffalo Wild Wings, grew domestic digital sales more than 35 percent to $6 billion-plus and increased its loyalty user base to almost 50 million members. The company opened more than 1,400 restaurants in 2021, including more than 500 franchise-led stores in the U.S.
