Got an absolutely dynamite coal fired pizza joint for you guys to checkout, Ah-Beetz New Haven Pizza in Delray Beach.

Real simple tale to tell, last week Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “discovered” (1 eat-in/ 1- takeout) Ah-Beetz New Haven Pizza (which opened something like 3 months ago) and its food totally- blew us away! The no-frills joint has 2- tables (for 4) inside and a handful of tables outside. Reasonably priced pizzas/ calzones/ salads/ wings menu.

Now, you guys know, or should know by know- that this food reviewing “gig” is purely a subjective call…what I like, you may hate and vice versa!

With that in mind, I gotta tell you that the coal oven-pizzas/ calzone/ chicken wings, salads that we ordered- rank right-up there with the best that we’ve eaten here in Florida!

Got a real good “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joint for you guys to check-out, Aunt Lulu’s NY Style Pizza & Kitchen in Boca Raton.

Real simple tale to tell- last night, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “discovered” Aunt Lulu’s NY Style Pizza & Kitchen (located in a requisite bombed-out South Florida strip center) and I gotta tell you guys- that the joint’s food was- delicious! Inside table seating/ small handful of outdoor tables, reasonably priced menu featuring appetizers/ soups/ salads/ pizzas/ calzones/ strombolis/ hot & cold subs/ wings/ entrees/ desserts/ other stuff!

Like I said 2- seconds ago, the joint’s food was absolutely delicious…

Last but surely not least, Aunt Lulu’s wait and back of the house staff was off-the-chart good! Despite the masks, dine-in orders and loads of take-out orders, the crew was extremely competent and super-pleasant in taking care of business!

Got a terrific- Chinese joint for you guys to checkout, Golden Rice Bowl Chinese Restaurant in Lauderdale Lakes.

Applying Jeff Eats’ Jewish American Brooklyn Chinese Food Taste Test circa 1957- I gotta rate Golden Rice Bowl as one of the best Florida- Chinese joints that I’ve eaten in during the past 25 years!

As for the lay of the land, Golden Rice Bowl is basically a hole in the wall take-out joint that has something like 6 tables (4-tops) in the rear of the store and a counter (you can watch the cooks-cook) that seats 6 if you want to eat there. The joint’s menu has the full boat of expected appetizers like egg rolls and bbq ribs- as well as lunch and dinner combination plates and early bird specials. On the price-and portion fronts, neighborhood Chinese joint prices and big portions.

Long story short, this past Saturday night- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “countered” it at Golden Rice Bowl and its food was off the chart delicious! Let me also add, that the waitress who served us was as pleasant as could be!

Like I told you guys at the start of this essay, definitely some of the best Chinese food I’ve eaten down here in Florida during the past 25 years.

Golden Rice Bowl Chinese Restaurant is open a Monday-Thursday 11:30am-10pm, Friday 11:30am-11pm, Saturday noon-11pm, closed Sunday.

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you that Chris’ gyro wrap is off the chart-it is absolutely delicious. Just so you know, the original Chris’ review (5/21/10) has a different address listed-when Jeff Eats first “tried” Chris’ it was a small hole in the wall, the new location is in the same shopping center and seats a ton of people inside and on an outdoor patio. Without any hesitation, Jeff Eats will tell you, Chris’ Taverna is one of the best Greek restaurants in South Florida.

Chris’ Taverna is a GREEK RESTAURANT…maybe 20 formica tables inside, 20 outside. You can order at/pickup at the counter…or you can be fancy and have a waitress/waiter take care of you. Menu/prices/loads of photos at www.christaverna.com. This is strictly a shorts/tee shirt ensemble kinda-joint.

Now…and I really mean this, outrageously delicious food. I have to rank the Greek salad ($8.95), gyro entree ($11.95-2 sides), souvlaki entree ($11.95-2 sides), grilled baby lamb chops entree ($20.95, 5 chops-2 sides) right up there with the best that I’ve had in a Greek joint.

Really, that simple.

The U.S. pilot of the McPlant began in November and grew to 600 stores by the beginning of 2022.
McDonald’s completed its test of the McPlant, without any announcement of a future national rollout.

The burger chain confirmed with media outlets that it ended the pilot as planned, but JP Morgan analysts Ken Goldman and Anoori Naughton said “the reason sometimes being cited is that the product did not sell well enough.”

McDonald’s U.S. began testing the Beyond Meat product in November in Texas, Iowa, Louisiana, and California markets. In December, global financial services firm BTIG said the product “performed exceptionally well” and that restaurants were selling approximately 500 McPlant burgers per week, or 70 per day, with little operational complexity. As a comparison, Burger King sells about 20 Impossible Whoppers per day, per restaurant.

In February, the experiment expanded to roughly 600 stores, with about 350 in Dallas-Fort Worth and 260 in the San Francisco Bay Area. This particular test did not appear to follow suit. BTIG analyst Peter Saleh said in March the McPlant was underperforming and stores were selling about 20 sandwiches per day, and only three to five in rural areas. The low volume meant the item had to be cooked to order, which lengthened drive-thru times by about a minute.

“Franchisee sentiment on the sales performance was underwhelming,” Saleh said in the note. “Their assessment was that they don’t see enough evidence to support a national rollout in the near future.”

The McPlant was first introduced in the fall of 2020, and by February, McDonald’s chose Beyond Meat as its preferred supplier. The McPlant patty is composed of ingredients like peas, rice, and potatoes. It’s served on a sesame seed bun with tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and a slice of American cheese. The McPlant is described as a product for flexitarians as opposed to vegans, since it’s cooked on the same equipment as meat menu items.

The burger is showing more acceptance in Europe. McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said in January that after a successful pilot in 250 stores, the McPlant launched in all restaurants across the U.K. and Ireland.

“As I’ve said before, when customers are ready for McPlant, we’ll be ready for them,” the executive told investors.

The McPlant has also been tested in Austria and the Netherlands. McDonald’s Australia rolled out the item across 270 restaurants, according to Vegconomist.

Got a real good Italian Ice/Soft Serve Ice Cream/Gelati joint for you guys to checkout, Jeremiah’s Italian Ice in Boca Raton.

Real simple tale to tell, Jeremiah’s is a fast growing Italian Ice franchise (since 2019) which currently has stores spread-out over Florida. Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas. Three weeks ago, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff “discovered” Jeremiah’s Boca Raton joint and have been back 5 times since that initial outing. Order/pickup at inside counter/outside walk-up windows, handful of inside/outside tables, reasonably priced- 40 rotating and seasonal Italian Ice flavors/ vanilla-chocolate soft serve/ loads of toppings menu.

Now, just between you and me, I kinda think that I know my Italian Ices and Soft Serve Ice Cream and I’m telling you guys that Jeremiah’s Italian Ice is turning out absolutely delicious stuff!

Like I said a few seconds ago, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have been to Jeremiah’s 6 times (between 7:30-9:30pm) and each and every time- there were lines both inside and outside with people waiting to order. In addition, every table inside/ outside was taken. Of interest, all ages were there.

Not sure as to how it all plays out franchise wise, but for right now, the Jeremiah’s (which opened in Boca Raton on June 28th, 2021)) looks like a home-run business!

A couple of months ago I came across Jonny Pops Frozen Fruit & Cream Bars while “walking” around a Publix in Delray Beach.

Suffice it to say, Jonny Pops hooked me! So far, I’ve tried 7 of its 11 (5 fruit, 3 cream and 3 dipped) flavors – and they were all delicious!
