Silverspot Cinema (Coconut Creek)

Posted on May 13th, 2015 · American Coconut Creek Music/Events/Other

* Silverspot Cinema.

Just wanted to mention to you guys that this coming Friday-May 15th a new movie-complex is opening at the Promenade of Coconut Creek located at the intersection of Lyons Road and Wiles Road in Coconut Creek.

For those of you who may not be familiar with the Promenade of Coconut Creek-for our purposes, let’s call it the- Poster Child For Florida’s Disastrous Mega Shopping Centers!

Now- it’s just Jeff Eats’ opinion- but this center has to be ranked as one of Florida’s biggest white elephants! An absolute Ghost Town! No fooling here, other than for a small handful of restaurants- there are literally no stores that warrant a person making a trip to this outdoor mega center! Don’t believe Jeff Eats?- down below is the center’s tenant roster…see what you think.

If I was a betting man, my money would say that the “movies” will have little to no effect- turning the Promenade of Coconut Creek into a viable retail center.

Anyway,

Crap center or no crap center, you guys now know about a brand new movie complex that sounds like it’s gonna be a top-shelf operation!

Coming early 2015, the Promenade at Coconut Creek will be home to the Silverspot Cinema. Silverspot will operate an 11-screen luxury theater featuring a combination of first-run blockbuster, 3-D, and concerts, as well as foreign and independent films, presented with state of the art projection and sound technology. Each theater has hand-stitched leather stadium style seating, as well as a high-end restaurant, bar and lounge where theatergoers can enjoy “dinner and a movie” in one place.

    Jeff,
You are so right on this one.
    The center is a disaster.
    Very little foot traffic.
A handful of restaurants do some business but that’s about it.
The movies will draw but not enough to turn this mess around.

Hey, it’s got a Jos. A. Banks. If you need 98 suits, you know where to shop.

  3. Sidney L Turner says...

Thank God, there is a Yankee Candle.
What a pitiful list of retail stores.

    Jeff,
You are wrong on the tenant roster not being strong.
    Sunglass Hut.
Don’t know what you were thinking, everyone I know goes to a Hut at least 3 times a week.

I can only imagine what a disaster Lovin’ Olive must be.

    Jeff,
I am very familiar with this center.
The reason, I shop at one of its store Soma Intimates.
I must tell you that other than Soma the other stores there are of no interest to me.
I have been in this center maybe 5 times and the center as you mentioned is virtually a ghost time. There are very few people in the streets.
As for the new movie theatres they definitely can’t hurt. Something is better than nothing. They may drive some traffic but I think that it will be minimal at best.
I can’t figure out why centers like this are built. Furthermore why any retailer would voluntarily open in them.

I have been to The Promenade exactly 3 times and each time that I was there I commented to myself as to how bad business must be for the stores. The reason I was there is that I have a novelty line that I rep and was trying to open new accounts in the center. The promenade is a perfect example of a center that had no real anchors that we stimulate business for the other stores. The movies will draw but I don’t see the retailers other than the restaurants gaining any real business.

    Jeff,
    Very weak tenant list.
The new movie theatre can only do so much.

Eithos is pretty good. 160 Mufaletta has a decent burger. The place opened as the economy was tanking. There is a similar type of project in Vegas called Towne Center. It is MUCH larger, with deep pockets invested, a huge movie theater (state of the art) and some top tenants like an Apple store and many others. That is a far bigger White Elephant. That went bust and cost a fortune in massive losses. Promenade had too much interference from the city. Like all cities they know ZERO about business. Sorry less than ZERO. Hipster stuff like parking spots for low emission cars, special energy green building codes etc. These things are tough to pull off. Many fail and you dont exactly know why. The movies there may help, or hurt. Hard to say. Its pretty expensive and the restaurants can use the extra business. Blame government for this one,.

By the way, the rent there cant be cheap. You cant try dollar stores and such with high rent. What stores should be there to pull people? Its a small footprint sort of thing.

    Jeff,
I was at the theatre last night at 7:30 for a private party before its opening today. Great facility. People will love it.
The retail stores were dead. Most of the restaurants were very busy.

  12. Johnny D says...

Tried this new movie theater out a couple of nights ago and the facility is gorgeous. The seats are covered in soft leather, are huge and wide and there is a ton of leg room in front of each seat. They don’t decline but they are still super comfortable. Go there. You will enjoy the experience.

  13. LODI says...

Saw Entourage there last night. Theaters are terrific. Fabulous comfortable seating.
My wife and I also ate in their restaurant. Food is as good as any restaurant out there. She had crab cakes and I had a burger.
This movie/restaurant combo is going to be a huge success.
Have to agree with Jeff, the rest of the center except for a couple of restaurants is a mess. There is no reason to come to center as the stores are your typical mall crap.
