* Jazziz Nightlife & John Oates.

Just reading how restaurant/nightclub Jazziz–booked John Oates for November 11-12, 2014.

For you guys who don’t know-Oates is the Oates -as in Daryl Hall and John Oates the legendary musical duo.

Nothing for nothing, but booking John Oates is sort of like booking Bud Abbott of Abbott & Costello.

In all seriousness, Hall & Oates–is Darryl Hall…one of the greatest blue-eyed soul singers of all time.

Jazziz- sorry, but not a good move! You bought yourself an-Abbott!

    Great group.
Like Costello there is no act without Hall.

  2. Bobby F says...

    Jeff,
I work 2 minutes from Jazziz. I am in the Mizner Park area 7- days a week.
As you correctly pointed out in a previous article Jazziz is a great looking place and has a load of good local and national acts.
What many don’t see is that its a mismanaged business, with mediocre food and service and when it has ticketed artists the charges are way too high.
I’d be surprise if a Jazziz doesn’t go out if business .

  3. KSR says...

The folks running Jazziz haven’t got a clue as to what they are doing.
I just priced Jefferson Starship tickets and the cheapest was 60 bucks and you got to stand at the bar.
    Are they nuts or what?
Good band but not the band that had the hits. Just a real good tribute band with one original.
Now Oates. He is nothing without Hall. Hall is the star not Oates.
Good luck to Jazziz it’s going to need it.

  4. Jeff
    Jazziz is a mess.
    Overpriced food.
    Overpriced booze.
    Overpriced tickets.
    Loud.
    Unprofessional help.
    Horrendous location.

Won’t be around for much longer.

Everyone is easy with their criticism of others. So Oates isn’t the lead singer, get over it and realize that he is the melody and wrote or collaborated on many of their hit songs. Oates is an excellent guitarist and I am looking forward to seeing what his show and self talent are all about…he will definitely sellout Jazziz and I thank them for bringing in excellent talent to Boca! What have you done to help our community?

    • Andrew Gold says...

      Guaranteed he won’t sell out.
I’ve been in the music production/concert business since 1966.
Jeff is right when he compares Oates to Abbott.
Oates couldn’t get arrested without Hall.
Sort of like Simon & Art Garfunkel. Same thing, one guy carried the other guy.
      Just watch.
      Jazziz is booking hasbins.
They should be charging 10 to see Starship not the absurd prices they are.
Jazziz isn’t long for this world.

    • Lenny K says...

What I’ve done to help my community is to save them money by telling them not to go see Oates. How’s that?

      Oates is nothing without Hall.

    • TURNER says...

      Azure,
Let me ask you one question.

Would you pay to see the Rolling Stones without Mick Jagger and with Keith Richards singing lead?

      I didn’t think so!

      Same Thing Here!

    • Gtr342 says...

      Let’s talk turkey here.
Jazziz hasn’t brought in one single national act to Boca that hasn’t already appeared in South Florida for free or for a lesser ticket price.
Look at its ticket prices and they are absurdly high.
Who in the right mind is going to pay 100-150 plus 35 in food to see Jefferson Starship on a Monday or Tuesday night? Get real.
      Oates is nothing.
      He can’t sing a lick.
Maybe he can write but he’s no lead singer.

    • LODI says...

      Mark,
That video shows that Jeff is 100% correct that Oates is just a Bud Abbott. That video is horrendous. 0ates singing lead is painful to listen to.

    • Anthony Franza says...

Pretty pitiful. The guy can’t sing. Without Hall there would be no group.
      Jazziz bought Bud Abbott.

  7. Cal H says...

There is no reason to discuss John Oates any further. Hall is the group’s lead singer. Oates is its guitar player who does background vocals. Hall is the singing talent Oates isn’t.
Jazziz bought a name. That’s about it.
If they charge the crazy high prices that they are currently getting for Jefferson Starship they will get very few ticket buyers.
Maybe if Oates was free, but other wise just a waste of time seeing him without Hall.

  8. Danny G says...

Notice that Hall has his own tv show, Oates doesn’t. That should tell you something.
    Oates is like Ringo.
Paul sells out stadiums while Ringo plays a Mizner Park Amphitheater.
Oates isn’t the star he is just a supporting cast member.
Based on Jazziz piss poor operation you could expect a foolish move that being booking Oates.
Just as a curiosity piece I might spend 15 bucks to see him and that’s iffy.
Jazziz won’t be around if it keeps doing dumb bookings like this one and overcharging to see oldie acts Jefferson Starship.
Just maybe South Beach can handle a Jazziz but a bedroom community like Boca on a Monday and Tuesday night isn’t the right venue for washed up or second fiddle stars.

  9. Mr. Clay says...

    Hey Abbott!

    Oates, I don’t think so!

  10. Anthony Franza says...

    Jeff
Jazziz is on the balls of its ass.
    They can’t give away tickets.
    Here read this.

General admission seating is available for each of the one-night only shows:

    Jefferson Starship: Monday, July 28 & Tuesday, July 29 at 7:30 p.m. … $37 (reg. $60)
Hits include “We Built this City” and “Miracles.”
    Sophie B. Hawkins: Tuesday, Aug. 5 & Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m. … $25 (reg. $40)
The singer is best known for the 1992 hit “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover.”
    Sandra Bernhard: Tuesday, Aug. 12 & Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. … $37 (reg. $60)
Bernhard’s new show is a blend of stand-up, rock ‘n’ roll, cabaret and a little burlesque.

  11. Ty43 says...

    Hey Guys,
    Give Jazziz a break.
It’s trying its best to bring some nice entertainment to Boca.
It’s problem is that whoever is booking acts doesn’t know dick about what to buy.
If Jazziz brought in top performers and priced things right it could be a homerun.
I’ve been booking acts for years and from the choices that it’s made I can tell you that whoever is picking the acts is very weak.
For example although it puts on a good show Starship isn’t for this type of venue. The band is more for casinos and open aired venues.
All Jazziz got to do is book good acts, price tickets right, price food lower and you’ll see huge crowds.

  12. Jetter says...

People can say what they want and believe what they want but John Oates alone isn’t much of an act. Anyone who know anything about Hall & Oates knows that Hall is the whole show. Why Jazziz would book Oates alone is a mystery to me. For sure he has a name but not much of a solo act.

  13. KSR says...

    Jeff,
Mark my words Jazziz won’t be around for much longer.
It is a totally mismanaged operation.
The food is fair. The service is fair. The prices are too high.
The physical layout for music shows sucks.
On national acts it charges too much.
On its selection of national acts, that also sucks.
Who in their right mind would hire John Oates? he is absolutely a no talent without Hall.
As you so correctly wrote, hiring Oates is like hiring Bud Abbott.
Whoever invested in Jazziz is going to regret the day they got suckered into the plan.

  14. Who ever owns Jazziz has absolutely no idea as to how to run a successful restaurant club.
The food is just passable. The service is very weak. The reception area is as unpersonable as can be.
On its shows. You can’t charge people $60 to stand. Just that simple.
You can’t book John Oates. He is nothing without Hall.
You can’t bring in has been groups like Starship and expect people to pay top dollar to see the band.
You can’t bring in a no talent Bernhart.
You can’t bring in acts on Tuesday Wednesday and expect to sell out.
    YOU can’t……………………………………..

Jazziz you had better get a top operator in there real fast otherwise you are headed to BK court.

  15. JoyceEatsBagels says...

    Jeff,
Just saw Hall & Oates perform on the VIEW.
They did 2 numbers and Hall sang lead. Oates did almost nothing.
Jeff you are so right, Oates is nothing.

  16. JAZZIZ IS OUT OF BUSINESS. A FORTUNE OF MONEY DOWN THE DROWN!

They guys behind it had no idea how to run a restaurant or book talent. Just shows what happens when a few guys with no skills and a few bucks think they are smart.

The Oates move is a prime example of the above!
