* McDonald’s

Last Tuesday night, Jeff Eats caught the 1960s-1970s Rock N Roll band– The Grass Roots in concert at the Mardi Gras Casino in Hallandale Beach. Terrific show…which ran from 8pm-9:15pm.

On the way home Jeff Eats “decided” to pickup food at a 24-hour McDonald’s located at 710 Yamato Road in Boca Raton…great looking modern store with loads of flat screen tvs.

To be perfectly honest with you guys, McDonald’s isn’t really Jeff Eats’ “style”—but at 10:15pm on a Tuesday night in Boca Raton there really weren’t too many fast food/ take-out hamburger joints to choose from.

To make a long story short, McDonald’s had a “special”—Buy One Quarter Pounder And Get One For Free. Jeff Eats being the pig that he is– bought 2 Quarter Pounders which came with American cheese, a drop of ketchup and pickles…and a large order of French fries. The bill for the 4 burgers and fries was a spot over 10 bucks.

After getting the food, I drove another 5 minutes to my home and settled in-with my burgers and fries and a bottle of Sparking Ice (Grapefruit)–to watch the second half of game 6- Heat v. Spurs.

Do you know what horse meat tastes like? I don’t either, but the burgers I got were- what I assume horse meat tastes like. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE…three bites and I tossed them in the garbage. The fries were ok…but were loaded with salt.

Can someone explain to me…Why is McDonald’s such a big chain?

“Marketing”………Take the meat out of a Subway sub, try it without the bread and toppings and you’ll ask the same thing about them.
Why do their burgers suck? McDonald’s uses a large percentage of Cheek meat in their burgers, the toughest muscle in the steer, no fat, no grain ,no flavor and hard like a rock. They also use ungraded meats that you would never find in a supermarket or butcher shop. You would never buy this quality chopped meat for your family. They also microwave their burgers which would turn even a prime piece of meat into garbage.

Why does Subways meat suck? it is loaded with water and fillers. You would never buy this quality deli meat for your family.

Both places also add mechanically separated meat to their product, also found in supermarket chicken and turkey products e.g. chicken and turkey franks.
Mechanically separated meat is created by putting X amount of bones into a machine that will extract Y amount of sludge which consists of cartilage, marrow, and meat fragments left on the bone.
In this world especially the food industry, you get what you pay for…..

FYI. a few weeks ago you had talked about Bobby Robino, their ribs are baked in a water solution which contains a large amount of liquid smoke, they are not naturally smoked in a smoker as great ribs should be. After they are baked in this solution for several hours they are refrigerated, when you place your order the ribs are removed from the fridge, brushed with bbq sauce and put under the broiler..

only time I go to McDonald’s is when I am in a pinch for WiFi. You can’t beat their Diet Coke & free WiFi.

Other posters nailed. 1) Marketing 2) Cheap

You can feed a family at McDonalds for the same price it would cost you to feed yourself at other trendier fast food burger joints.

Plus while I’m certainly not the biggest McDonalds fan their fries are delicious.

Jeff, just read this. your 1/4lbers are probably worth a $1,000,000 settlement.

DETROIT (AP) — The only two McDonald’s restaurants in the United States that were serving food prepared according to Islamic law have stopped several weeks after a $700,000 settlement over a lawsuit that alleged the items weren’t consistently halal.

The fast-food giant said in a statement Monday that the locations in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn, which has a large Muslim population, are no longer offering a halal McChicken sandwich or Chicken McNuggets in order “to focus on our national core menu.”

The corporation added it takes into account “local and dietary preferences,” and supports its franchisees in Dearborn. Neither the statement nor a spokeswoman said whether McDonald’s decision was related to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit, brought by customer Ahmed Ahmed in 2011, technically covered anyone who bought the halal-advertised products between September 2005 and January from the restaurant on Ford Road and another one in Dearborn with a different owner. The second location wasn’t a defendant or a focus of the investigation.

A letter sent to McDonald’s and restaurant franchisee Finley’s Management, by attorney Kassem Dakhlallah’s firm Jaafar and Mahdi Law Group, said Ahmed had “confirmed from a source familiar with the inventory” that the restaurant had sold non-halal food “on many occasions.”

In the settlement notice, Finley’s Management said it “has a carefully designed system for preparing and serving halal such that halal chicken products are labeled, stored, refrigerated, and cooked in halal-only areas.” The company added it trains its employees on preparing halal food and “requires strict adherence to the process.”

McDonald’s attorney Thomas McNeill said during a hearing earlier this year that the investigations and negotiations proved that if a problem arose, “it was isolated and rare.”

The settlement is being shared by a customer named Ahmed Ahmed, a Muslim-run Detroit health clinic, Dearborn’s Arab American National Museum and lawyers.

Dakhlallah said Monday that “there is no shortage of halal options for consumers” in Dearborn, home to one of the largest mosques in North America. Overall, the Detroit area is home to about 150,000 Muslims.

“If the result of the class-action lawsuit against McDonald’s and the Ford Road franchise was that companies who were falsely advertising halal products stopped pretending to be halal compliant, that’s a good thing for consumers,” he said. “I doubt that truly halal compliant businesses would stop offering halal products

Gary-You seem like you know your stuff. Jeff cracks me up. I got a decent burger yesterday at shake shack. Too bad we don’t have In and Out Burger here in South Fla. Jeff should be aware that he just got the new redesigned Quarter pounder. They got rid of the Angus bugers because of high food cost and people did not want to pay more for it.

  13. Zelman30 says...

    the food is absolute crap.
    but it’s dirt cheap.
jeff, you got 4 cheeseburgers and ff for 10 bucks.

  14. mark says...

The secret to getting a better burger is to custom order it. That way they have to make it fresh.
