***** Jake’s Wayback Burgers *****

I know that some of you guys like to be kept in the “loop.” So, with that in mind…I just heard that “fast-food” hamburger chain–Jake’s Wayback Burgers which currently has 10 Connecticut–9 Delaware–13 Pennsylvania–1 Indiana–1 Massachusettes–2 Maryland–4 North Carolina–5 New York–1 Ohio is planning on opening 2 Florida joints in the next couple of months…4690 State Road 7, Coconut Creek and 8201 South Military Trail, Sarasota.

If you aren’t familar with this chain, trust me, you aren’t alone. Jeff Eats had never heard of Jake’s until last week when I gave its Long Beach, New York outlet a shot. If you want to go further, you can check www.waybackburgers.com for menu/prices/locations.

Now, you know and I know that “upscale” fast food burger joints are literally popping up on every American block. Absolutely no question in my mind, that the day of reckoning is quickly approaching–when the American public is going to tire of most of these joints and tons of franchisees are going to get wiped out. That said, until that reckoning-day arrives, there is no reason whatsoever- why I, Jeff Eats can’t eat myself into a 48 inch pair of pants and a 22 inch shirt.

Jake’s menu has got it all…burgers, franks, fries, onion rings, salads, milkshakes.

For the record, I did a 2-patty cheeseburger, french fries, coffee and chocolate milkshakes…the burger/fries were good-not great. Assuming that the Jake’s “coming” to Coconut Creek is-like the one I tried in Long Beach–I’m not really sure it will be able to “handle” the likes of Five Guys, CG, BurgerFi, Elevation which all have joints near the Coconut Creek outlet. That said, I will tell you, the milkshakes were outrageously delicious.

So for right now, the bottom-line on the Coconut Creek joint…we’ll just have to wait and see “what the story is” after it opens.

Jeff Eats’ real concern with these “new” burger joints is-that a 22 inch neck shirt is rapidly approaching.

Anyway…you guys are now in the “loop.”

June 18, 2012…

Just wanted you guys to know, that about a week or so ago–I tried the new Jake’s Wayback Burgers in Coconut Creek…had a double cheeseburger with french fries. The burger and fries were good. Nothing for nothing, they definitely weren’t best of breed-but for sure, I’ve tasted a whole lot worse.

As I’ve told you guys in past burger “stories”–the upscale fast food burger space is being over-loaded with players. Can’t give you a firm date, but in the very near future a ton of these “guys” are going to be folding their tents. I seriously doubt, that the Coconut Creek “area” where Jake’s just opened can successfully support Jake’s, Five Guys, Elevation, BurgerFi, CG–not to mention McDonald’s and Steak N Shake. For the sake of the franchisees involved, I sure hope that I’m wrong–but I don’t think so.

I ate at the one in Evansville Indiana last week. For a double cheeseburger, onion rings & drink it was $9.50. It was good but, not $9.50 good. There are better local joints that are just as good & much cheaper.

ate lunch here today, $9.50 for burger fry combo that’s to much for what I got. Fair burger but won’t stand up to 5 guys or BurgerFi fries just ok. One thing I cannot stand is a place that serves fries and rings and you have to beg for ketchup in little packets, this isn’t Burger King get a real ketchup dispenser.

    Ate there this evening.
First, location is where Pastrami Princess use to be. Not the best shopping center. Can’t see the restaurant from main road which is 441.
Second, single patty cheeseburger, onion rings and fries were good. Nothing extraordinary but decent enough food.
For a combo meal with a soda figure figure about $9.
Place has tables but no booths.
Retro 50’s decor theme but not to an excess.
I enjoyed myself but it’s definitely not the best upscale fast burger that I’ve eaten.

    Jeff,
Tried the new Coconut Creek store. Had a jr cheeseburger with fries. They serve Pepsi.
The cheeseburger was good. The ff were ok but are not fresh in store cut.
Not sure what’s going to make Jake’s stand out from the other fast food burger places that are in the area.

Ate at Coconut Creek store. Thought the burgers and fries were very good. Really can’t complain about anything. The food is as good as all the others like CG, Steak & Shake which are in the same area.

  6. Vic Morrow says...

    Burger and fries were good.
Dont see this one making it because location is lousy and the food isn’t any better or worse than all of the other players.

  7. Ray Smith says...

    Jeff, I liked the cheeseburger/ff I had.
Like someone else mentioned here not a great location but I’m not buying the joint.
The food is as good as most of the others in the area.

    Jeff Eats:
I live and work 5 minutes away from Jake’s, I enjoyed its burger and ff. Personally I like CG Burger which is two minutes away better but dont get me wrong Jake’s food was just fine,

I agree with you that too many burger restaurants are opening.

    I wish Jake’s good luck.

  9. POP WAGNER says...

    TRIED JAKE’S.
THE BURGER AND FRES WERE GOOD.
THE STORE IS VERY PLAIN LOOKING BUT NOT UNATTRACTIVE.
I HOPE THAT THE OWNER GOT A GOOD RENT DEAL BECAUSE THE LOCATION LEAVES A LOT TO BE DESIRED.
I KNOW THAT OTHER RESTAURANTS WERE IN THE SPACE BEFORE SO JAKE’S PROBABLY SAVED SOME MONEY ON THE BUILDOUT.
NOT SURE WHAT IT IS BUT JAKE’S HAS TO COME UP WITH A GIMMICK THAT DIFFERENCIATES IT FROM THE OTHER BURGER RESTAURANTS. JUST HAVING BURGERS, FRIES AND SHAKES ISNT GOING TO CUT IT.

  10. Leon Kurt says...

Tried and really enjoyed the cheeseburger and onion rings that i had.

  11. xds says...

    ok burger and ff.

  12. Smutty T says...

Food is decent enough. The location is going o kill this one.

  13. Mike A. says...

Really enjoyed the burger & ff.

  14. DDF says...

This is a suck ass franchise.
How in the world could they in good conscious allow this franchisee to open in such a horrendous location?
The franchisee as absolutely no chance in the center that its in.
What a pity that the parent company couldnt careless about where stores open.

  15. Lp says...

What was the this guy thinking?
Average food and a horrendous location.
    Too bad!

  16. Burgerman2 says...

    Food ok.
    Location terrible.
Why in the world would anyone open in such a crap location is beyond me

    • Rubberbandman says...

I have the exact same sentiments.
      Food is fair, loc stinks.

  17. G. Weiss says...

    Burger and ff weren’t bad.
How in the world could a franchise let a franchisee pick such a horrendous location.
You can’t see the place from the road.
It’s going to be a real tough struggle for this one.
