Real simple tale to tell, yesterday afternoon Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “discovered” Canopy Road Cafe and I gotta tell you – dynamite food/ super pleasant service! Inside table / counter/ booth seating, reasonably priced full boat all day breakfast/ salads/ burgers/ sandwiches/ desserts menu, open 7 days a week 6:30am – 2:15pm.
Just so you guys know, in addition to Jacksonville, Canopy Road Cafe has joints in Tampa/Tallahassee (4)/Sarasota/Lithia/Saint James Florida.

For our purposes, we’re gonna call The Daybreak Diner in Orlando “an out of sight, out of mind” mom & pop diner joint.
Jeff Eats first told you guys about- The Daybreak Diner way-back on 9/18/12…and the truth be told, I hadn’t been back until this past Thursday (5/4/17)- when Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did breakfast there!
Long story short, breakfast absolutely killed. Delicious food, reasonable prices, big portions and terrific service!
Now just between you guys and Jeff Eats, I thought that 2017’s The Daybreak Diner was way better than 2012’s The Daybreak Diner! The point, this food “reviewing” gig is purely a subjective thing, you know- what Jeff Eats thinks is sweet, you may think is bitter!
Anyway, The Daybreak Diner which is open Monday-Friday 6am-8pm, Saturday 6am-2pm, closed on Sunday is “probably” a real good joint for you “mom & pop” diner fans to know about!

I’ll bet you a buck, that without ever setting foot in the door, you guys know exactly what The Daybreak Diner looks like…let’s just say “formicasville” tables/booths. You can check menu/prices at www.daybreakdiner.org.
You regular Jeff Eats’ readers know, that “mom & pop” diners have a special place in my heart. Personally, I’d rather eat breakfast/lunch in a neighborhood diner, than in a bagel joint, fast food restaurant, chain operation. You guys gotta appreciate that most of us-folks of the 50’s-60’s were raised on diners—anyway…
A week or so ago, I was up-in Orlando and came across the Daybreak Diner. All kinds of breakfast stuff, appetizers, salads, soups, burgers, sandwiches, subs/wraps, meat/fish/chicken “meals”- desserts. A quick taste “test” netted Jeff Eats…western omelet with hashbrowns ($6.59), bacon cheeseburger and french fries ($8.50), chicken salad on white toast ($4.95)—everything was just right. Just so we are straight—Was The Daybreak Diner the best “diner” I’ve ever eaten in? Nope! But as “expected”…my party was served decent enough diner food by a super pleasant waitress…suffice it to say, The Daybreak Diner held-up its end of the bargain…the food, the decor, the vibe–just what the “recipe” called for.
So, you Orlandoians and non-locals now know about a mom & pop” diner where you can catch a decent enough breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The Daybreak Diner is open Monday-Friday 6am-8pm, Saturday 6am-2pm, closed on Sunday.

Inside table/counter seating for something like 30 people, no frills open kitchen decor, full boat menu of reasonably priced appetizers/ gas oven & coal fired oven- whole pizzas and slices/ chicken wings/ pastas/ salads/ entrees/ hot & cold subs/ calzones/ strombolis/ desserts. Open 7 days a week 11am-10pm.
Let’s wrap Genna Pizza Company up by saying, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats absolutely loved the joint’s food- (and that our family dinner was drama-free)!

Long story short, last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “discovered” Bella Amici Pizzeria & Restaurante and the joint’s food absolutely killed! Handful of inside & outside tables/ inside counter seating, no frills pizza joint decor, reasonably priced appetizers/ pizzas/ pastas/ hot & cold heros/ entrees/ desserts/ daily specials/ beer & wine menu, open Tuesday-Thursday 11:30am-9pm/ Friday-Saturday noon-10pm/ closed Monday.
Just so you know, Bella Amici’s food totally blew Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats away! I gotta rate this joint right up there with the best “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joints that we have eaten at in Florida. Just so we are straight- if you’re looking for fancy schmancy- Bella Amici is absolutely-positively not going to work for you! I’m talking here- tee shirts/shorts/flip flops, pizzas, pastas, mussels marinara, lasagna, wings, fried calamari, strombolis, heros, antipasto salad, garlic knots, tartufos, endless Coca Cola refills and loads of napkins!

Dear Jeff,
My husband and I are recent (181 days ago) transplants from Manhattan to Royal Palm Beach and we are desperate for a good pastrami on rye. We’ve tried a number of South Florida bagel joints, kosher delis and various sandwich shops and to be honest “not good”.
Not expecting to find stuff like we were raised on like Katz’s, Carnegie, Sarge’s, Stage, 2nd Avenue and Lindy’s- but something “almost close”- would work for us!
Location wise…The closer the better to our Royal Beach condo, but we will definitely travel to fress!

Subway is sparking growth in China, fueled by one of the largest development deals in restaurant history.
The sandwich chain is looking to open almost 4,000 restaurants in the next two decades alongside new master franchisee Shanghai Fu-Rui-Shi Corporate Development Co., which will have exclusive rights to develop Subway locations across Mainland China. The agreement, if completed, would grow the chain’s Chinese footprint by 7x.
The franchisee company was formed by a group of private investors, including Asia Investment Capital. The consortium plans to hire a CEO with significant quick-service experience in the Chinese market.
Subway said it’s experienced positive sales in China as of late thanks to a growing digital platform and new menu items. The company believes its new master franchisee will accelerate that even further.
“This agreement is a significant milestone in Subway’s international growth strategy as we continue to focus on strategically expanding our footprint and maintaining our position as one of the world’s largest restaurant brands,” Subway CEO John Chidsey said in a statement. “China is a key market with significant long-term growth opportunity, and we look forward to bringing the Subway experience to even more guests in the region.”
This is Subway’s 13th master franchise deal in the past two years. Combined, these agreements equate to more than 9,000 restaurant commitments. In November 2021, the company announced it inked a deal with Everstone Group to open more than 2,000 stores in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh over the next 10 years. A few months later it signed an agreement to debut more than 700 units in Thailand across the next decade.
Each of these moves—including the most recent China partnership—is part of a plan to double Subway’s Asia Pacific footprint from roughly 3,500 units to more than 6,000. The sandwich concept is the second-largest restaurant chain in the world in terms of footprint, following McDonald’s. It’s first in the U.S.
Subway is one of several fast-food chains jockeying for growth opportunities in China. Tims China, which opened more than 600 Tim Hortons shops in the country in three years, recently signed an agreement to lead growth for Popeyes as well. Popeyes China is bringing $30 million in cash and Tims China will add another $60 million to accelerate development. Last year, Papa Johns revealed it had a deal to open more than 1,350 outlets in South China—the brand’s largest development contract ever. About three years ago, Domino’s invested $40 million to acquire a minority interest in Dash Brands, the chain’s master franchisee in China.
