* A Sure Bet: Senator Cruz Running For President.

Today, Ted Cruz the U.S. Senator from Texas- announced that he is seeking the 2016-Republican nomination for President.

Jeff Eats will bet you any amount of money that you’d like, that this man will not get that nomination!

Death, Taxes and Ted Cruz will not get the nomination!

Go to the bank on it!

While we are talking Texas…or is it turkey?

Burger House Hamburgers in Texas (its been around since 1951)- makes absolutely amazing flat-top-grilled-fast-food burgers, French fries and onion rings…there are 3 in Dallas and 1 in Addison.

Strike 10 Bowling & Sports Lounge (Hallandale Beach)

Posted on March 23rd, 2015 · American Hallandale Beach Music/Events/Other · 1 Comment »

* Strike 10 Bowling & Sports Lounge, 501 South Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, Florida 33009, (954) 417-6066.

Yesterday- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats spent a couple of hours at The Village At Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach…to say that this “center” is a retailer’s nightmare would be putting it midly…other than for a few restaurants doing-business, the center was literally a freaking ghost town…just for the record, we were there on a gorgeous Sunday- 83 degrees- roughly from 5:30pm-7:45pm and ate at the Yard House which was packed both inside/outside patio!-by the way, Yard House’s food and service were right on the money!

Long story short,

While killing time- we walked into a “new” bowling establishment Strike 10- which apparently had just opened- a few days earlier…bowling alleys, some pool tables, bar, restaurant, loads of tvs and I gotta tell you, unless I am totally missing something here- whoever owns this joint has absolutely no idea as to- how to design, build or-run a BOWLING ALLEY- RESTAURANT. Trust this 119-bowler when I tell you, I couldn’t figure-out if this was an- adult night spot, a kids’ birthday party joint, or a community center in a retirement development!

Now, I could be dead wrong and since Jeff Eats- has got no-skin in this game, I hope I am- but I’ll bet you guys a buck- that Strike 10’s owner is in for a real tough sled-ride here. While I was there- Jeff Eats could only-think “big fire insurance policy”- but that’s just me!

I know- I got no real “details” listed, it just frustrates Jeff Eats-that “someone”-would spend all kinds of money- planning/building what looks to me like an abortion in the making!

You like old diners- you’re gonna like Walter’s Coffee Shop!
_____________

***** Walter’s Coffee Shop, 17009 South Dixie Highway, Palmetto Bay, Florida 33157 (305) 232-1235.

Let’s call Walter’s Coffee Shop a “greasy spoon diner.” The joint has been around (in one form or another) since 1965 and other than a flat screen tv…the joint is still 1965!

Walter’s is my kinda joint…big breakfasts, burgers, onion rings, french fries drenched in ketchup. You can booth it or sit at the counter.

A recent outing had me “doing” a bacon cheeseburger/fries/onion rings—tuna on white toast—blt. This is a DINER. Nothing and I do mean NOTHING fancy here.

I don’t know about you guys, but I grew up in Brooklyn in the 1950’s-1960’s on mom & pop joints just like Walter’s. Back then, my favorites were the “Federal” on Cortelyou Road and “George’s” on Coney Island Avenue.

You can check walterscoffeeshop.com for menu/prices/photos/other stuff.

Walter’s is good stuff. Good prices. Good service. It’s a throwback to the way things use to be, before huge chains took over the world.

Walter’s is open Monday-Friday 5:30am-2:30pm, Saturday 5:30am-1pm, closed Sunday.

Jack Nicklaus Ice Cream

jack-nicklaus-ice-cream-flavors

***** Jack Nicklaus Ice Cream.

Real simple and short story…

Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus and Schwan’s Global Supply Chain, Inc. recently partnered to produce a premium line of ice cream- Jack Nicklaus Ice Cream. The pint sized ice cream will retail for $1.99- comes in 7 flavors-Warm Spiced Butter Pecan, Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl, Salted Caramel Toffee, Strawberry Lemonade, Triple Chocolate, Coffee & Donuts, Homemade Vanilla and will debut in late March, 2015 at select Winn Dixie, Bi-LO and Kroger stores.

At the request of pr-agency- Revelry Agency…Jeff Eats taste tested (at my Boca Raton home) Homemade Vanilla, Salted Caramel Toffee and Strawberry Lemonade- and I gotta tell you that every one of the flavors was delicious. Just between you and me, if the stuff was crap-I’d tell you it was crap, but I really enjoyed all 3-flavors…Another-just between you and me, Jeff Eats has requested Revelry Agency to “let” me taste test the remaining 4-flavors…I’ll let you guys know, if I get to do that, so on an so forth!

Let me wrap this up for you, for $5.97 worth of ice cream, Jack Nicklaus Ice Cream got itself a well deserved plug on Jeff Eats- and the really nice thing about the Nicklaus-Schwan’s partnership is that part of the sales of the pint sized containers will be donated to support children’s charities, including the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care.

Long tale short,

DaVinci’s Of Boca is a “semi-upscale” Italian joint- that recently opened in the Boca Town Center Mall in Boca Raton…

Jeff Eats has not-yet eaten there, but my good friend Roy has been there something like 4-times and each time raved about how good the food was! Between you and me, Roy knows his “stuff” so when the below-flyer showed-up in today’s Sun Sentinel- I figured I caught a cheap (inexpensive) way to-see for myself. Just thought I’d pass-the “deal” to you guys.

Jodi’s Cupcakes & More (Boca Raton)

***** Jodi’s Cupcakes & More, 129 Northwest 13th Street, Boca Raton, Florida 33432, (561) 416-5559.

Here’s another “out of sight, out of mind” joint for you guys…Jodi’s Cupcakes & More in Boca Raton.

Real fast story,

A couple of weeks ago- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “went” to Niece Jeff Eats’ 16th birthday party at Taverna Opa in Delray Beach…I told you guys all about the party on 3/8/15.

Anyway, the cupcake desserts were “provided” by Jodi’s Cupcakes & More and I gotta tell you, some of the best cupcakes- that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have eaten.

Nothing for nothing, Jeff Eats- knew about Jodi’s cupcakes long before the birthday party- as witnessed by my Jodi’s Cupcakes & More write-up (2/24/13) which is reprinted down below- that said, this Jodi’s Cupcakes & More is located in one of the dumbest out-of-the-way spots in an industrial park in Boca Raton- thus, the “out of sight, out of mind” label.

Between you and me, based on how good Jodi’s cupcakes are-the joint definitely deserves another mention on Jeffeats.com

You now know where you can get absolutely delicious cupcakes, just make sure your GPS is working!
____________

February 2, 24, 2013
***** Jodi’s Cupcakes & More, 129 Northwest 13th Street, Boca Raton, Florida 33432, (561) 416-5559.

A real short story for you guys…

Jeff Eats recently attended a big charity event…the kind, where on the day of the event- you play Zelig and hope that your tuxedo fits!

Anyway… for dessert, the event’s-sponsors had an enormous buffet of cakes, pastries, ice creams, pies—and 10 different types of cupcakes.

Being the public servant that he is, Jeff Eats “sampled” all 10—chocolate cheesecake, chocolate mint, pecan pie, espresso, banana cake, almond cake, triple chocolate, vanilla, strawberry cake, lemon cake…and I gotta tell you, these mini-cupcakes were sensationally delicious.

After the event, I learned that a small-hole-in-wall bakery, Jodi’s Cupcakes & More was the responsible party that had Jeff Eats dieting the next day.

Look, I’m no expert on cupcakes…with that in mind, what I do know—is that this joint turned-out some of the most novel-delicious flavored cupcakes that Jeff Eats has ever eaten.

You can check flavors at www.jodiscupcakesandmore.com.

Jodi’s is open Tuesday-Friday 9am-6pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, closed on Sunday-Monday
