* Sound Chaser- Tribute To YES.
Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats just bought 2-tickets to see Sound Chaser- one of America’s premier YES tribute bands! These guys are hauntingly good at re-creating YES’ sound! The South Florida based- Sound Chaser is set to play the Boca Black Box in Boca Raton this coming Friday- June 24th at 8pm.
from bocablackbox.com
Sound Chaser Tribute To YES
Every current “prog rock” or “prog metal” band — from Dream Theater to Porcupine Tree — owe a great deal to the year 1968, when the band Yes! was formed (soon dropping the exclamation point). Coined early as “Symphonic Rock,” Yes would go on to define Prog Rock over 40 years and more than 20 albums. Unlike most of their progressive rock peers, Yes added stratospheric and complex vocal parts to the amazingly intricate chordal and rhythm arrangements affording them a unique and defining place in the genre.
Despite significant personnel changes over the years, Yes would have double (Fragile) and triple platinum (90125) albums spanning three decades, with six additional platinum and six gold records as well.
No one has put more effort into recreating that sound than the core members of Sound Chaser, South Florida’s premier Yes tribute band. Tom Matlosz has duplicated Steve Howe’s guitar and string setup nearly to the model year, and has created tone nearly indistinguishable from the original. Alex Chigos’ keyboard setup includes the Hammond organ and Mini-Moog signature to Rick Wakeman’s sound, along with a bevy of other newer, state-of-the-art keyboards that reproduce that classic Yes sound (without all the mechanical problems presented by the Mellotron). Likewise, bassist Patrick Imus has the classic Rickenbacker bass sound duplicated down to the identical strings and amplification used by Chris Squire. A relative newcomer to the band, drummer Ken Burton uses vintage era (70’s) Ludwig three-ply drums and snares virtually identical to those used by Bill Bruford and Alan White (as well as newer Ludwig gear, and Sabian cymbals).
If you want to hear a band duplicate the sound of classic Yes (and to some degree, the look) make sure to check them out as they take the Box by storm this June!

***** Rock N Roll Ribs, 4651 State Road 7, Coral Springs, Florida 33073, (954) 345-7429.
This is a real simple story to tell you guys…
Last night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats ate at Rock N Roll Ribs- and we all “decided” that I should tell you guys again (1/28/16, 2/2/10) as to how good the joint’s food is, that its prices are super reasonable and that its wait-staff is as pleasant & competent as can be!
To cut to the chaff, last night’s “$61.95- Appetite Of The Beast”- baby back ribs, bbq chicken, pulled pork, brisket, baked beans, coleslaw, French fries, garlic toast was amazingly delicious! Being a graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, Jeff Eats must tell you guys- The Beast’s corn on the cob and the Road Crew Onion Stack ($7.45) appetizer both needed some work- with way too much breading on the stack and the corn being bland and soggy!
To wrap this tale up, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats want you guys to try Rock N Roll Ribs!

Recent e-mail received by Jeff Eats…
Jeff,
The family (me, the wife and 2 pre teen kids) just moved to Coral Springs from Baldwin, LI. Found Jeff Eats’ purely by accident a few days ago and like your style. We haven’t tried any of your picks yet but first up is Nick’s Pizzeria in Coral Springs this coming weekend.
Just curious, what’s a good bbq pick for our area?

Rock N Roll Ribs is a “bbq joint”…it opened about 3 months ago…one of its co-owners is Nicko McBrain, the legendary drummer of the metal-band Iron Maiden…by the way, Nicko lives in Boca Raton. So, you now know— how “it” probably got the name Rock N Roll Ribs. The joint, has videos of bands playing, records on the wall, hanging guitars and a drum set as its decor. Rock N Roll Ribs is located in a shopping center on State Road 7…I think there are more empty stores than going businesses. Personally, I think that the spot stinks, but hey, it ain’t my dime! The joint isn’t all that big, maybe 80 seats. From what I understand, although Nicko is one of the owners and hangs out there- when he is in “town” (he wasn’t there, last night), it is run by “Moby” Rick Baum who according to the joint’s “pr” has an extensive background in developing/opening/running restaurants—the guy also plays guitar in Nicko’s (other band) McBrain Damage… What I can tell you, based on last night’s meal, this guy Moby Rick knows his bbq.
At this stage of the concert, check www.rocknrollribs.org for menu/prices/photos.
Now let’s talk food…tried- baby back ribs, bbq chicken, pork sandwich, cheese burger, french fries, garlic toast—this is some of the best bbq that I have had “down here” in South Florida. This joint’s bbq is not heavy-smokey, but rather “sweet” grilled stuff, that is right on the money.
On the pricing front—very reasonable…a full rack of baby back ribs with garlic toast and 2 sides goes for $15.95…a 1/2 chicken with garlic toast and 2 sides $12.95.
On the service side—very pleasant and efficient waitstaff.
Like I said before, 80 seats, looks better than a Hard Rock Cafe, real good food, real good prices, real good service, lousy location. Hey! Nicko and Rick, you got a great concept here…I just hope that people “find” you.
One final thought, you might like to check www.ironmaiden.com and www.myspace.com/mcbraindamge and read about Nicko and Rick’s music and bandmates. Just so you know, Nicko-is considered by many, to be one of the top rock drummers of all-time.
I really enjoyed Rock N Roll Ribs.
The joint is open 7-days a week 11am-10pm.

Relive the excitement and glamour of New York’s most legendary nightclub with Inside Studio54. This concert and dance party harnesses the electrifying, era-defining sounds of the ’70s and ’80s and lets them loose on The Venue in Fort Lauderdale. Groove to the music of Grammy-winning disco songbird Thelma Houston, whose “Don’t Leave Me This Way” caused a dance-floor inferno. This night of nostalgia also features the original Weather Girl, Martha Wash. After going multi-platinum with the iconic 1982 single “It’s Raining Men,” Wash went on to transcend that decade, belting out the vocals on ’90s clubland classics like “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” and “Everybody, Everybody.” They’ll be joined by British R&B singer Maxine Nightingale, who found international fame with songs like “Right Back Where We Started From” and “Lead Me On.”

***** Grimaldi’s Coal-Brick Oven Pizzeria, 11701 Lake Victoria Gardens Avenue, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida 33410, (561) 625-4669.
Grimaldi’s Coal-Brick Oven Pizzeria is a “coal oven” pizza chain…there are currently locations in Arizona, Florida, Nevada, New Jersey, New York and Texas. For our purposes, there is currently 1-location in South Florida (Palm Beach Gardens) with announced plans to open a second spot at 1 North Clematis Street, West Palm Beach.
You can check menu/prices/locations at www.grimaldispizzeria.com.
Over the years, I’m gonna guess- that I have eaten in the Brooklyn location 10 times and the Tucson joint 8…Last night, I had dinner at Palm Beach Garden’s restaurant…same menu, same delicious pizza. The only problem I have with Grimaldi’s is that its menu is extremely limited…like try- pizza, a handful of salads, handful of calzones, handful of desserts…end of story. So–if pizza and salad ain’t your bag, you’re in for a serious problem while the rest of your party stuff their faces.
The Palm Beach Gardens’ joint is located in DOWNTOWN AT THE GARDENS…a gorgeous white elephant outdoor mall, which has more empty stores than there are Chins in a Chinese phonebook.
Grimaldi’s pizza is outstanding…it’s right up there with the best of breed. The joint’s caesar and caprese salad are also delicious. The Palm Beach Garden’s joint has a full bar, indoor and outdoor patio seating.
So what we got here…one of the best coal fired pizza/salad joints in South Florida albeit with a very limited menu…great looking indoor wood decor/outdoor patio seating…full bar—in a huge ghost town complex.
Grimaldi’s is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-10pm and Friday-Saturday 11am-midnight.
