Got a real good “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joint for you guys to checkout- Bella Amici Pizzeria & Restaurante in Boca Raton.

Long story short, last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “discovered” Bella Amici Pizzeria & Restaurante and the joint’s food absolutely killed! Handful of inside & outside tables/ inside counter seating, no frills pizza joint decor, reasonably priced appetizers/ pizzas/ pastas/ hot & cold heros/ entrees/ desserts/ daily specials/ beer & wine menu, open Tuesday-Thursday 11:30am-9pm/ Friday-Saturday noon-10pm/ closed Monday.

Just so you know, Bella Amici’s food totally blew Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats away! I gotta rate this joint right up there with the best “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joints that we have eaten at in Florida. Just so we are straight- if you’re looking for fancy schmancy- Bella Amici is absolutely-positively not going to work for you! I’m talking here- tee shirts/shorts/flip flops, pizzas, pastas, mussels marinara, lasagna, wings, fried calamari, strombolis, heros, antipasto salad, garlic knots, tartufos, endless Coca Cola refills and loads of napkins!

Dear Jeff,

My husband and I are recent (181 days ago) transplants from Manhattan to Royal Palm Beach and we are desperate for a good pastrami on rye. We’ve tried a number of South Florida bagel joints, kosher delis and various sandwich shops and to be honest “not good”.

Not expecting to find stuff like we were raised on like Katz’s, Carnegie, Sarge’s, Stage, 2nd Avenue and Lindy’s- but something “almost close”- would work for us!

Location wise…The closer the better to our Royal Beach condo, but we will definitely travel to fress!

The agreement would boost Subway’s Chinese footprint by 7x.
Subway is sparking growth in China, fueled by one of the largest development deals in restaurant history.

The sandwich chain is looking to open almost 4,000 restaurants in the next two decades alongside new master franchisee Shanghai Fu-Rui-Shi Corporate Development Co., which will have exclusive rights to develop Subway locations across Mainland China. The agreement, if completed, would grow the chain’s Chinese footprint by 7x.

The franchisee company was formed by a group of private investors, including Asia Investment Capital. The consortium plans to hire a CEO with significant quick-service experience in the Chinese market.

Subway said it’s experienced positive sales in China as of late thanks to a growing digital platform and new menu items. The company believes its new master franchisee will accelerate that even further.

“This agreement is a significant milestone in Subway’s international growth strategy as we continue to focus on strategically expanding our footprint and maintaining our position as one of the world’s largest restaurant brands,” Subway CEO John Chidsey said in a statement. “China is a key market with significant long-term growth opportunity, and we look forward to bringing the Subway experience to even more guests in the region.”

This is Subway’s 13th master franchise deal in the past two years. Combined, these agreements equate to more than 9,000 restaurant commitments. In November 2021, the company announced it inked a deal with Everstone Group to open more than 2,000 stores in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh over the next 10 years. A few months later it signed an agreement to debut more than 700 units in Thailand across the next decade.

Each of these moves—including the most recent China partnership—is part of a plan to double Subway’s Asia Pacific footprint from roughly 3,500 units to more than 6,000. The sandwich concept is the second-largest restaurant chain in the world in terms of footprint, following McDonald’s. It’s first in the U.S.

Subway is one of several fast-food chains jockeying for growth opportunities in China. Tims China, which opened more than 600 Tim Hortons shops in the country in three years, recently signed an agreement to lead growth for Popeyes as well. Popeyes China is bringing $30 million in cash and Tims China will add another $60 million to accelerate development. Last year, Papa Johns revealed it had a deal to open more than 1,350 outlets in South China—the brand’s largest development contract ever. About three years ago, Domino’s invested $40 million to acquire a minority interest in Dash Brands, the chain’s master franchisee in China.

This joint’s food is outrageously delicious!

Right off the bat, this Jamaican hole-in-the-wall “fast food” joint- is an absolute must try…maybe its got 1 table that seats-4 and a handful of counter-seats–so don’t expect to be entertaining your future in-laws there–or holding a bridal shower, or something like that!

I think that you guys know or should know by now, that Jeff Eats is always “straight” with you…unlike many food “critics”- “bloggers”- “so called experts”- my sole goal is to find cool joints that are banging out delicious food. I really have no interest in the “hows and whys” the food got made.

Anyway, back to Jamaica Kitchen…

A number of years ago, Mrs. Jeff Eats “forced” me to do a 7-day Caribbean cruise with our kids. The two dolls (back then aged 11 and 4) played so much BINGO on the cruise, that when they got home to Boca Raton, they wanted to become Catholics…On that same cruise, Jeff Eats treated “himself” to a $5 tee shirt that said “We Be Jammin’”– Rather than going into a long winded story, let’s just say- that Jeff Eats’ knowledge of Jamaican cuisine–is kinda on the limited side–after-all, curry goat, curry ox-tail, jerk chicken weren’t exactly Thursday night staples at my mother’s Brooklyn kitchen table in the 1950s-1960s.

With that in mind, the other day I ate at Jamaica Kitchen and I gotta tell you-that the stuff served-up was fabulous. Now nothing for nothing–Jeff Eats doesn’t have a huge “file” to compare the “tried” jerk chicken/curry shrimp/fricassee chicken/mild beef patty- with…but I am telling you, the food was DELICIOUS.

From what I understand, Jamaica Kitchen (which has been around for something like 32 years) is owned by a Chinese husband-wife team who were raised in Jamaica…that’s the reason why- Jamaica Kitchen’s menu has both Jamaican and a handful of Chinese dishes like -Chinese roast chicken and suey mein listed.

Finally-you should know…Jamaica Kitchen is kind of a famous “hole in the wall.” When you check its website, www.jamaicakitchen.com for menu/prices you will find a number of newspaper/magazine articles and a September 2008 Food Network segment- where Guy Fieri of “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives” gives the joint a rave review.

Like I said at the top of this tale, Jamaica Kitchen is an absolute must try.

Jamaica Kitchen is open Monday-Saturday 11am-8pm, closed on Sunday.

Got a real good fast food Chinese joint for you guys to check-out, Dumpling King in Pembroke Pines.

Simple tale to tell, yesterday afternoon, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats “discovered” Dumpling King and the joint’s food totally blew us away! Order at counter/ food delivered to table, inside table seating, reasonably priced flavored bubble teas – boiled/ fried/ steamed dumplings – appetizers – soups- dips- entrees- noodles menu.

Let’s wrap Dumpling King up by saying, that if this joint was a drop closer to Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats’ Boca Raton abode, we definitely would be real steady customers/ that the joint is open Monday, Wednesday-Sunday 11am-9pm closed on Tuesday/ that in addition to its Pembroke Pines’ location, Dumpling King has a joint in North Miami Beach and that Dumpling King is an absolute must try.
