Last night, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats were in New York City.

Simple tale to tell you guys, last night we had pizza at Joe’s Pizza (on East 14th Street) and the slices were right up there with some of best New York Slices we’ve ever eaten! Hole in the wall/order-pickup at the counter, handful of hi-tops. The joint only sells pizza.

An absolute must try if/when you’re in the Big Apple.

Menu

Here at Joe’s Pizza, we do one thing and we do it right: Authentic, New York City Pizza. It’s the same classic slice we’ve been serving for nearly 40 years using the same recipe and methods established in 1975, made with the finest ingredients available. All under the guidance of founder Joe Pozzuoli, who has been making great pizza since he first immigrated to the U.S. from Naples, Italy in the 1950s.

At Joe’s, you wont find any pretentious concoctions nor do we serve bargain pizza made with who-knows-what. It’s just the old-school, real deal New York Pizza. No string-bean, asparagus covered, wild turkey surprise pizza here.

* Father’s Day 2016 & DISH OF THE WEEK.
Just in case you guys are wondering where Son Jeff Eats and Daughter Jeff Eats are taking Jeff Eats for Father’s Day…

For the record, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats love Bobby Rubino’s…so let’s kill two birds with one stone, Father’s Day Story & Dish Of The Week Story (Dinner For Two $25)!

Happy Father’s Day!

***** Bobby Rubino’s, 2501 North Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, Florida 33064, (954) 781-7550.

Haven’t really got the time or inclination to tell you Bobby Rubino’s story…suffice it to say, Bobby Rubino use to work for Tony Roma’s which was a South Florida bbq ribs/chicken chain, then Bobby Rubino in 1978 opened his own bbq ribs/chicken joint naming it Bobby Rubino’s—over the years Bobby and Tony were huge competitors each with loads of South Florida locations…not sure on Tony Roma’s dimished numbers—but today, there is only one Bobby Rubino’s location left and it’s-in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Now…

For whatever it’s worth, for something like 30 years—old Jeff Eats has been a huge Bobby Rubino’s fan…delicious sweet sauced ribs/chicken, french fries, onion rings, corn—never empty soda glasses.

Real simple…loads of food at really reasonable prices. If your looking for upscale-gourmet-fancy schmancy this joint ain’t for you. Just so we are straight, the last outpost is kinda on the dated 1970’s looking side–so like Jeff Eats said 2 seconds ago, fancy schmancy is a definite no-no here.

Anyway…

If Bobby Rubino’s sounds like something that might interest you, do yourself a GIGANTIC FAVOR and go to its website www.bobbyrubinos.com—you’ll find menu/prices, you’ll also find a bunch of coupons that will allow you to literally eat like a pig for virtually nothing.

In all fairness to you guys, Jeff Eats in recent years had lost “contact” with Bobby Rubino’s—and it was Rubino’s recent advertisement/coupons in the Sun Sentinel that reunited “us.”

To wrap this one up…my favorite coupon:

DINNER FOR 2 -$20 plus 1 beverage purchase.
Includes:
1 appetizer–onion loaf
2 entrees–full rack babyback ribs or rib/chicken combo
2 sides
1 dessert

Bobby Rubino’s is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

Banquet Cheese-Burger Sliders.

Taste test verdict here…first bite had Jeff Eats thinking- “So this is what horse meat tastes like!” But a bite later, Jeff Eats was thinking- “No, this is what cat meat must taste like.” Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you, these sliders are big time bad news!

If you’re a glutton for punishment, or just want to know what horse and/or cat meat must taste like, Jeff Eats bought these Banquet Cheese-Burger Sliders at the Walmart Supercenter, 16205 South Military Trail, Delray Beach, Florida 33484. The twin pack was microwaved for 45 seconds and the pictured Banquet package cost $5.89. You can check banquet.com for retail locations & info.

Got a real good one for you doo wop guys, The Royal NY Doo Wop Show, Friday Night (8pm)- September 9th at the Boca Black Box in Boca Raton.

All kidding aside…

This is gonna be a great show!

The Temptations Review Featuring Dennis Edwards (Mardi Gras Casino- Hallandale Beach)

Posted on September 3rd, 2016 · Hallandale Beach Music/Events/Other · No Comments »

* The Temptations Review Featuring Dennis Edwards.

There have been many “Temptations” but the only ones inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame are Dennis Edwards, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks, Dave Ruffin, Otis Williams and Paul Williams.

Otis “owns” The Temptations’ name and tours with 4-guys who “never in a million years” would have qualified to be Temptations in the group’s hey day! Franklin/Kendricks/Williams/Ruffin have passed and Dennis’ tribute group has for years- mesmerized audiences with its dead-on Temptations’ vocals, dance moves and style

The Temptations Review Featuring Dennis Edwards plays the Mardis Gras Casino in Hallandale Beach, Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 7pm. You can order tickets at mardisgrascasinofl.com.

Born February 3, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama to Reverend and Mrs. Dennis Edwards Sr., he began singing as a toddler, just two years old, in his fathers’ church. His family moved to Detroit when he was seven. As a high school student, Edwards sang with the Crowns of Joy gospel group, and then in 1961 he organized his own soul/jazz group, Dennis Edwards and the Fireballs. Before joining The Contours in 1967, Edwards recorded a single for the obscure Detroit label, International Soulville Records. The single was a track called “I Didn’t Have to (But I Did)” with Johnnie on the Spot.

Edwards was the first new Temptation to enter the group after their “classic five” heyday, when he replaced David Ruffin as lead singer in July 1968. The Temptations officially introduced Edwards on July 9, 1968 on stage in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. With his rougher gospel-hewn vocals, Edwards led the group through its psychedelic, funk, and disco periods; two of the Temptations songs he appears on, “Cloud Nine” (1968) and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” (1972), won Grammy Awards. Edwards was the lead singer on many or the other Temptations hits including “I Cant’ Get Next To you”, “Ball of Confusion”, “Psychedelic Shack” and “My Girl”. The Temptations became one of the most successful Motown groups in the world.

In 1984 Motown re-launched Edwards’ solo career, and he had a hit with the 1984 single Don’t Look Any Further, which is a favorite of many fans. Dennis Edwards has received 7 Grammy Awards, 14 Gold Records, has sold over 100,000,000 recordings worldwide, is a member of the Alabama Hall of Fame and performed in Washington D.C. for the 2009 Inaugural Ball for President Obama. Edward’s television credits include many guest appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Trinity Broadcasting Network, Motown’s 25th Anniversary, PBS Soul to Soul Special, Feed the Children and TV One – Jeff Majors Show.

First told you guys about fast food/order-pickup at counter/”roast beef” Beefy King on April 10, 2012. The truth be told, Jeff Eats hadn’t been back since- that is until yesterday’s lunch with Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats splitting two roast beef sandwiches, a pastrami/roast beef combo sandwich and way too many tater tots!

Real simple tale to tell you guys, Beefy King which has been around for something like 48 years serves absolutely dynamite food in a no frills, no drama setting. If you live, work, go to school or just happen to be in the area, the joint is an absolute must try- that’s assuming of course, that you’re into off the chart delicious stuff like- roast beef, pastrami, corned beef and turkey sandwiches!

***** Beefy King, 424 North Bumby Avenue, Orlando, Florida 32803, (407) 894-2241.

Was up in Orlando the other day…and had a fast food lunch at Beefy King. Like most of you, I’d never heard of this joint–but its been around since 1968…as a point of reference, in 1968 I was a sophmore at Ithaca College, weighed 162 lbs and wore a size 32 waist pants. Anyway…stepping inside was like going back in time. Not 100% sure on this, but my money says that this joint hasn’t been remodled since it first opened. Anyway…two “townies” who were on line, told me that the joint was famous for its steamed roast beef, pulled pork and tater tots. So, when it came my time to order, Jeff Eats ordered pastrami-corned beef sandwiches and onion rings—just kidding.

Beefy King does…roast beef/ham & cheese/turkey/pastrami/corned beef/bbq pork/bbq beef Kaiser roll sandwiches, handful of salads, handful of sides, milkshakes.

For the record, the roast beef/pulled pork sandwiches were amazingly delicious…same for the crispy tater-tots.

Now nothing for nothing, in deciding if you are going to trust my taste buds on this “outing”—keep in mind, that I am and have always been a huge Arby’s fan.

I loved the food. I loved the nostalgic signage/decor.

You can check menu/prices at www.beefyking.com.

Defintely strange for a free standing fast food joint…it’s only open Monday-Friday 10am-3pm, Friday 11am-3pm, closed on Sunday.

***** Brighton Beach Bagel & Bakery, 14587 South Military Trail, Delray Beach, Florida 33484, (561) 270-3771.

Jeff Eats first told you guys about Brighton Beach Bagel way-back on June 30, 2016- at that time, the fast food/order-pickup at counter bagel joint was a day or so away from opening…

image

Long story short…

Brighton Beach Bagel & Bakery has now been open for something like 6-weeks and a couple of days ago, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats gave it a “shot” for lunch. Rather than wasting a ton of ink telling you guys about the delicious- reasonably priced bagels/bialys/baked goods/soups/deli meats/tuna salad/chicken salad/spreads/breakfast stuff that this joint is cranking out -or Brighton’s super pleasant service- or its cool looking Retro 50’s Brooklyn vibe decor -or the joint’s bottomless help yourself hot/iced coffee setup, let me just say that Jeff Eats is hard pressed to name another Florida fast food/order-pickup at counter bagel joint as good as Brighton Beach Bagel & Bakery is!

imageimage

imageimageimageimageimageimageimage

There really isn’t too much more to say, other than if you work, play, or live in Brighton Beach Bagel & Bakery’s neighborhood- then you definitely gotta give it a shot!

The joint is open 7 days a week 6:30am-4pm.

Jeff Eats just heard about Brighton Beach Bagel & Bakery which is set to open tomorrow morning at 6am in Delray Beach! In speaking with one of Brighton’s owners – the joint is a 150 seat (inside/outside patio) order at counter/deliver to table- bagel/deli restaurant, open Monday-Thursday 6am-5pm, Friday-Sunday 6am-3pm.

If Brighton proves to be as good as it “sounds” on its website- brightonbeachbagel.com- you guys and Jeff Eats will have found a real good joint to stuff our faces at!

Jeff Eats has Brighton Beach Bagel & Bakery “penciled in for a try” sometime in the next 30 days…if you guys get there before I do, let me know the skinny!
