Got a real good reasonably priced- build your own pizza & salad joint for you guys, MOD Pizza which opened in Parkland something like 6-weeks ago.

Unless you’ve-just arrived from Planet-Mars, you know the concept- order at the counter/ food delivered to table, gas fired oven/ pick your dough, sauce, cheese, toppings.

MOD (Made On Demand) Pizza is a national pizza chain with something like 215 units scattered throughout the United States. The Parkland joint is the chain’s first Florida location (indoor- table, booth, counter seating and outdoor table seating).

Yesterday, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did lunch at MOD- and I gotta tell you- that the pizzas we “built” were absolutely delicious!

Like I said 2 seconds ago, you’ve seen the “concept” before- with that in mind, MOD Pizza was right on the money decor-wise, food-wise, service-wise and price-wise!

Last night Jeff Eats ate dinner at the Buca di Beppo in Wellington. Just so you know, Wellington wasn’t my “maiden Buca di Beppo voyage”–first time for Wellington, but over the past 16 years Jeff Eats has eaten in a number of Buca’s joints-here in Florida and elsewhere. Can’t really explain, why Buca di Beppo hadn’t garnered a Jeff Eats’ critique-prior to-today. If I figure it out, I’ll let you guys know.

Right about now some of you guys are throwing a hissy fit–Hey Jeff, it’s a chain, why would you eat there? What’s wrong with you? Did you lose your mind?

First things first.

For you guys who don’t “know” Buca di Beppo…locations are decorated literally with hundreds of pictures. The portions are either family style or individual size. Full bar -area.

Now onto the meal…just so you know, there were eight- in the Jeff Eats’ party-fried calamari, chopped antipasto salad, chicken parmigiana, veal marsala, penne alla vodka, ravioli with meat sauce, lasagna, baked rigatoni, tiramisu, cheesecake.

Now you do what you want with this. The food was delicious, the service was solid-friendly and all 8-of us really-really enjoyed ourselves.

Nothing for nothing, I know that there are a bunch of you-out there-who really “believe” that chain food can’t be any good. Well I got news for you, from this boy’s perch, Buca di Beppo proves your theory DEAD WRONG! No fooling here- I found the food as good if not better than most of the “mom & pop” Florida red sauce joints that have run my American Express card. For sure, there are loads of “mom & pops” that would wipe the floor with Buca di Beppo but trust me, most of them aren’t as good. On the price front, Buca di Beppo is in the same league as the “mom & poppers” -same goes for portion size and service.

A few seconds ago I gave you Buca’s website. When you check the site you’ll find a current “deal” called-“Feed four for $40.”–if you are going to try Buca, be smart and print out that coupon. One other thing, this morning Jeff Eats got an email from local.amazon.com offering a coupon for $10 off your next $20 purchase at Buca di Beppo- you may also want to print out that coupon. The way I see “coupons”- better your pocket than their pocket!

Buca di Beppo is open Monday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm, Sunday 11am-9pm.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had it with these “upscale” steakhouses…you know the ones, Morton’s New York Prime, Ruth’s Cris, Chops, Abe & Louie’s (just to name a few), that cost you an arm and a leg and have servers that make you feel as if you are an idiot. You know exactly what I am talking about…These are the joints, where nothing and I do mean nothing, comes with the steak/entree and salads and sides cost you a day’s pay…

If you are in the mood for a real good steak or some top-notch seafood, give Raindancer Steak House a try. The joint has been around since 1975… Real easy going (tee shirt/shorts do just fine here), no white-table cloths, great food, great “attitude-less” wait-staff. Take a look at Raindancer’s website at www.raindancersteakhouse.com for menu/prices/details.

Just so we are straight, Raindancer isn’t some $9.99 salad/steak/side joint. Just off the top of my head, a “soup to nuts” steak-meal is going to run you something like 50 bucks a head, give or take a few dollars. This joint’s seafood is as good as its meat game. Another beautiful thing about Raindancer, is that all entrees come with a potato or rice pilaf side and a fantastic salad bar…don’t think Shoney’s, or Golden Corral…

You now have a great steak-seafood house, that’s not going to break you. The joint is open, Sunday-Thursday 5pm-10pm and Friday-Saturday 5pm-10:30pm.

Got an absolutely terrific breakfast-lunch-dinner joint for you guys, Motor City Pizza And Deli in Boynton Beach.

Last night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple did dinner- and the joint’s food, service, reasonable prices, huge portions and vibe/decor absolutely killed! Just so you know, 8 tables inside, 2 tables outside so don’t plan on holding- big graduation parties or bar mitzvahs there!

A cursory review of Motor City’s menu (printed down below) “indicates” to Jeff Eats that everybody in your party should find what to eat!

Like I said 2 seconds ago, the food absolutely killed!

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, you definitely want to give Motor City a shot!

Last Saturday night around 10pm my wife and I- and another couple stopped by a German “bar-restaurant”—Biergarten in Boca Raton. The joint has indoor seating/huge outdoor patio seating. Real simple concept–tons of different beers, wines, specialty drinks—menu loaded with appetizers, burgers, salads, sandwiches, tacos, German style wursts-schnitzels-and other dishes—local bands and djs. The joint looks like “what” I guess a German beer garden in Germany is suppose to look like and the staff wears’ German beer garden costumes (I think!) What a cool place!. It was JAMMED and I do mean JAMMED! I’m gonna bet here, that half the crowd was FAU/Lynn students. Although it was approaching “my” bedtime, I still “tried” a steak slider, bbq pork slider, pastrami slider, kielbasa, potato pancakes—and I’m telling you straight up, the food was absolutely dynamite. Absolutely some of the best “bar” stuff I’ve had in a very very long time. A great dj was spinning all-types of music and I understand that the bands that work the joint, play classic rock, reggae and new stuff.

Suffice it to say, the “kids” there were having an absolute blast–and us 4 old geezers did the same. Boy! If Ithaca, New York had a joint like Biergarten back in 1966-1970–just maybe, I wouldn’t have been so anxious to graduate from Ithaca College-to get back to Brooklyn. In all fairness, Bobby Comstock & The Counts was a great band, but if memory serves me right, the food at the Dewitt Clinton Hotel where they worked- wasn’t even in the same breath as Biergarten’s grub.

Biergarten hasn’t been around for very long. I’m guessing here, but I think something like 6 months. The joint is located in the “Pink Plaza” in Boca Raton…the spot that it’s in- has over the years-housed more restaurants than you can shake a stick at. I maybe going out on a limb here, but I think that the landlord has finally found a long-term tenant.

Let me close by saying, no matter how old or for that matter young you are—you gotta try Biergarten.

Biergarten is open Sunday-Monday 11am-midnight, Tuesday-Saturday 11am-2am.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been a John Denver fan for 55 years!

The story- in October, 1966 as a member of Ithaca College’s student entertainment committee I got to spend an entire weekend with The Chad Mitchelll Trio who co-headlined a show with comedian-Flip Wilson. At that time, John Denver was a member of the group and over the next 31 years (until his untimely death in October, 1997) he and I stayed in touch with each other.

I consider ‘Leaving on a Jet Plane’ penned by John) and masterfully covered by Peter, Paul & Mary one of folk rock’s greatest songs!
