Dickey’s Barbecue Pit (Oviedo, Homestead & Miami Lakes)
Dickey’s Barbeque Pit
Dickey’s is a “fast-food” bbq joint…order at the counter/pickup at the counter. Dickey’s is a national chain with locations all over the United States. You can check its website www.dickeys.com for menu/prices/locations.
Lucky for us Floridians…Dickey’s for right now–only has 1-Florida location, that being in Oviedo, Florida. Last week I ate at a Dickey’s in Dallas, Texas and the food was borderline-horrendous. I tried the pulled pork, bbq ribs, bbq chicken…absolute crap. Not…going to bore you with the gory details, but just imagine a drumstick made of corrugated cardboard with the heaviest smoked-smell imaginable
Forewarned is Forearmed…Dickey’s website indicates that “new” Dickey’s Barbecue Pits will soon be opening in Homestead and Miami Lakes.
Wow, I don’t believe this at all! Dickey’s is a favorite here in TX and they’re popular for a reason – the food is good. It’s not 5-star cuisine, but it’s good. I’ve certainly never had ‘borderline-horrendous’ food there. Some of the franchises vary in quality, but Dickey’s doesn’t deserve this hate.
Kevin: Three weeks ago I was in the Dallas Airport. The gate I was leaving from was right near a Dickey’s location. I asked a Delta representative where to eat and she told me “definitely not” Dickey’s. Despite this warning I tried Dickey’s and boy o boy is Jeff right. The chicken was like eating a rubber chicken. The corn had no taste. I don’t know if the airport location is typical of what Dickey’s is all about but this was bad news. Based on that meal I wouldn’t go back to a Dickey’s in a million years.
I am surprised that a place like that can survive in dallas where they know good bbq when they see it! I think I have seen the sirport location. Kevins comments almost look like he is connected to the company. I wonder if you just got a bad meal. However the comments from beth seem interesting. We had a number of bbq joints flop here in south fl. That place in coral springs was supposed to be rolling out a ton of locations. Tony Romas and Bobby Rubinos are mostly kaput.
hey jeff, park ave ribs just opened a new store in boca where buckys use to be, same interior, but the food is great. hope they make it, but its a tough location at glades rd and dixie hwy.
Jeff, they just opened an outlet in Boca Raton in the same center where Anthony’s and Bonefish are.

Hi Jeff,
I was trying to take my kids to Boardwalk Burgers & Fries in Boca at Boca Grove
the other day and found out the hard way that it is long closed. While I was
driving out, I caught a glimpse of Dickie’s BBQ on the north side of the
shopping center.
I went in to eat/investigate, and had one of the BEST pulled pork sandwiches I
ever ate.
It’s an order/pick-up at the counter place, and the meat is smoked all day and
carved to order. It’s a very simple concept. They have 7 or 8 different meats,
and your choices from there are platter or sandwich.
The place was DEAD, but in my opinion, not because it is bad, but because nobody
knows it is there. I asked the manager how long they have been open, and he
told me over a year…I had no idea! He went on to say that they just went
under new ownership, and they are going to start advertising more to get some
people in the doors to try for themselves.
I’d love to hear what you think about this place. The guys working there were
very nice, and the food was so good that I would love to help give them a
shot…
Thanks for reading,

Boca Raton, FL
(I do NOT work there, nor do I have anything to do with anyone who does)
Dave L.:
Just had a chance to read your comments.
As you can see, Dickie’s didn’t do well with Jeff Eats back in 2009.
Just maybe the Boca Raton location is better, but for right now, Dickie’s isn’t on Jeff Eats’ list to-do.
Thanks for reading…
Ouch!
I guess I used up my all my credibility…
Hope you are not laughing too loudly at me now. I guess we don’t always agree…(I like smokey bones BBQ chicken too.) As a former NYer myself, what do we know about BBQ anyway?
On another note, I really do enjoy your blog, and make it a point to seek out as many of your recommendations as possible. I ate at Dickies the other night, and I couldn’t wait to get home and tell you about it…it just seemed like your kind of place to me.
…and while I have you, thanks for the heads up on NIHD.
Thanks again for all you do,
David Lehrman
The Boca location is closed.
Didn’t last very long.
