***** Gary Woo Express, 9874 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33498 (561) 483-4889.

Let me be straight-up with you guys…years ago, Gary “Woo” was a neighbor of mine…best friends, nope, but I know the guy. I remember when he opened his first joint- China Dumpling (Boynton Beach), his second joint-Gary Woo’s Asian Bistro (Boca Raton)…if you check, I rated China Dumpling one of the best Chinese restaurants in South Florida. To date, I have not reviewed the Asian Bistro.

Anyway…a few months ago a new strip center opened in Boca Raton…Gary Woo Express is the Chinese “anchor”…this is a takeout -only joint.

Let me start off by saying, that the food that this joint is cranking out is top-notch. Now, in most likelihood, I haven’t gotten stuff from your favorite neghborhood haunt, but based on 2-takeout outings…I’m gonna bet that Gary Woo’s food is better than the food you have been schleping home.

Recent taste-tests of…wonton soup, egg rolls, bbq ribs. pan fried dumplings, roast pork fried rice, sweet sour pork, general tso’s chicken, shrimp in lobster sauce…top-notch. I couldn’t find one item to really complain about.

At this stage of the game…checkout Gary Woo Express website www.garywooexpress.com for menu/prices.

I do have one problem with the joint…some of the prices are off-the chart…waaaaay tooo expensive.

So…you guys now know about a top-notch Chinese takeout joint.

Gary Woo Express is open Monday-Friday 11:30am-10pm and Saturday-Sunday 3pm-10pm.

    Holy Guacamole!

A Chinese take-out ONLY joint where ordering an appetizer and an entree can cost over $40? From a place that has no overhead, is importing and ‘housing’ their chefs from NYC’s Chinatown, and is located in a strip mall in the Western Wilds of the county?

This seems like destination-restaurant pricing, in a decidedly non-destination location.

I have been taking food from Gary Woo’s since it opened a few months ago. Definitely a step above other local takeout but you are right it is a bit pricey.

On Tuesday (February 15th, 2010), I went to Ginza with 5 (Five) people for lunch. The Sushi was average and the two teenagers liked the Chinese style food. After awhile, we saw the manager staring at us. We did not think anything of it. Five minutes later, the waitress informed us that we had to eat more of the rice with the sushi. If we did not, we would be charged 25 cents for each group piece of rice not eaten with the sushi. WE HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS. We asked if there was a sign or menu stating this policy. We were not provided with anything. Many times, we have been to the other Japanese buffets including the three Kyogin buffets (Boca and Ft. Lauderdale areas) and the Crazy Buffet (West Palm Beach). THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED AT THE OTHER RESTAURANTS. Additionally, one of the people in our group was 11 years old and didn’t eat much but GINZA ownership did not complain that he did not eat enough. We told management that we cannot come back. He said that he didn’t care that it was our decision. As a new restaurant in the area, they have a lot to learn. They need to state their policy for all to see as you enter the restaurant AND provide a menu that states clearly their “MUST EAT THE RICE WITH THE SUSHI” POLICY.

Tried it for the first time last night and thought it first rate. Prices are about 30-40% higher than usual but the food is much better than usual so that translates to value.
Much preferable to dining at Woo’s miserable restaurant on Federal.

Jeff, took out food and really enjoyed the wonton soup, roast pork fried rice, general tsos chicken that I got. I didn’t like gary woo’s egg rolls one bit.
