Publix Promise

* Publix Promise.

Every so often, Jeff Eats gets a reader email which complains- that at. Publix checkout the scanned register price on an item was more than the shelf or advertised price!

I thought that you guys might like to know what Publix’s official policy is on the above situation…

From Publix.com:

“Our Publix Promise guarantees that if during checkout, the scanned price of an item (excluding alcohol and tobacco products) exceeds the shelf price or advertised price, we will give the customer one of that item free. We will charge the lower price for the remaining items.”

    Jeff,
    In recent weeks I have had a number of problems with prices not being correct.
    The big hassle was each time I had to take a Publix employee to the aisle to show them the error. All of this wasted a ton of time and I really didn’t enjoy the experience.

    Over the years I have caught many wrong prices. At the checkout, I immediately ask for a manager to come to the register and usually they get things corrected right there..

    I have been a Publix customer for over 40 years. I can’t begin to tell you how many scanning errors it makes. When I checkout I keep a close eye on the register when sale items are being scanned. If I spot an error I tell the cashier right away. Sometimes they send another employee to the aisle to check the price and sometimes they get a mgr who overrides the error at the register.

    Keep an eye on the scanning because Publix literally makes mistakes all the time.

    I dont recall the exact facts but about 25 years ago I ordered a load of mini cupcakes for a children’s charity event. The bill was something like $150 but when the platter was scanned it was for well over $200. The mgr who came to the register voided the transaction and gave me the entire order for Free.

    Be smart and watch what is being scanned in at checkout.

  5. Jeff,
    Thanks for the info. Didn’t know about this policy before you mentioned it.
