  1. Frank Lek says...

Whoever booked this movie probably didn’t check but the target audience on the same date will probably be at FAU for a big live Oldie Show.

  2. Mark Nadel says...

    Jeff,
Kings Point is right down the Street from this theater,
This event is over priced, Why in the world would these folks pay $18/$20 to see a documentary movie when they get to see some of the top comedians, singers and other acts in America at KP for roughly the same price.
By the way, you can watch a ton of the documentary on You Tube.
As for Vance being there for Q & A, big deal! What could be asked that the people already don’t know an answers to?

The theater should price the event around $10 and it may draw and audience.

    • Ed Jameson says...

I was thinking the exact same thing.

      • Wendy Davis says...

        The documentary looks great.

The problem is that the audience it’s looking to draw can see live acts at their respective communities like Century Village and Kings Point for the same money as the ticket price for this movie.

Kenny Vance has had an interesting career, but a Q & A with him doesn’t justify the ticket price.

Now,if Vance and The Planotones were going to perform, there would be a big draw.

  3. Susan Wein says...

My husband and I are going.
Looks like a really interesting film.

  4. Linda J says...

    I’ve seen the ‘movie’.

    I really enjoyed it.

If you are a fan of doo wop, you will love it.

When I was teenager living in Brooklyn, I baby sat for David Blatt’s (Jay Black) oldest son. I also saw The Beatles at Shea Stadium I was literally raised on doo wop and 60’s Rock n Roll.

Go see the movie, it is very informative and definitely will bring back fond memories,

  5. Larry Torres says...

    Larry Torres says,

    Nice film.
    But,
For 25 bucks I can see the 5th Dimension at KP.

  6. Barbara Waalker says...

I am dying to ask Kenny Rosenberg why all of Jay & The Americans (except for Traynor) gave themselves “fake” last names,

  7. BHG says...

My husband and I live in KP.
    The movie sounds very interesting.
Please explain to me, how some run down theater can charge $18 or $20 a ticket to see a documentary and listen to Kenny Vance answer a few questions, when we can buy a $17 and a $19 ticket to see a comedy/magic show at KP in 2weeks named Married With Laughter in a gorgeous recently renovated theater that seats almost 1500 people, plus if we like a shuttle bus that takes us from our home to the show and then back?

The theater has overpriced its movie/

  8. Wendy Parente says...

For crying out loud, stop bellyaching about the ticket cost.
    Go have a good time.

  9. Don Sykes says...

    Jeff,
If I recall correctly, you have an interetsing connection with Jay & The Americans.

    Could you refresh my recollection?

    • Jeff Eats says...

      Don Sykes,

      Here you go…

      Thanks for reading.

      * Jay Traynor.

On January 2, 2014 Jay Traynor aged 70-passed away.

For the record, Jay was the original lead singer of Jay & The Americans—his hauntingly melodic voice resulted in the song “She Cried” in 1962 reaching #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Following the hit, Jay Traynor left the group for a solo career and was replaced in 1963 by David Blatt who took the stage name Jay Black. In recent years, Jay Traynor was a member of Jay Siegel’s Tokens -famous for the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” For you Rock n’ Roll buffs, before joining the Americans, Jay Traynor was a member of The Mystics of “Hushabye” fame and after leaving Jay & The Americans was involved in a number of solo projects as well as management/ production of groups such as Mountain and Yes. A little known fact, the group’s producers originally wanted to name the group Binky Jones & The Americans but at Jay Traynor’s urging settled for Jay & The Americans.

Jeff Eats’ “connection” to Jay Traynor dates back to November 3, 1974, that’s right some 40 years. It all started when as a young associate I joined the law firm of D’Amato, Costello & Shea, at 116 John Street, in New York City. It seems like it was only yesterday, that senior partner Joe Costello- in showing me around the office -introduced his secretary saying… “Jeff, this is my personal secretary- Marian Traynor, by the way her son “is” Jay of Jay & The Americans.” Just so you know, by 1974, Jay & The Americans was an iconic east-coast Rock n Roll band–with numerous charted singles.

Over the ensuing years, I must have seen Jay Traynor, Jay & The Americans, The Tokens, Jay Black, Jay Siegel-performances at least 30-times…and each and every time my mind’s eye…”Jeff, this is my personal secretary-Marian Traynor, by the way her son “is” Jay of Jay & The Americans.”

      Let me close by saying…

For whatever reason, that-long ago Joe Costello “introduction”- piqued my interest in Rock n Roll music-and lead to an entertainment business career.

      Jay, Joe, Marian…rest in peace!

    A SECOND SHOW WAS ADDED,

    TUESDAY,
    MARCH 26TH, 2024 (7pm)

  11. Jeff,
My wife and I were planning on seeing this film. We figured on the date of showing, we would just buy 2 tickets at the box office. Honestly we never figured it would sellout. By the way, Vance on his facebook page is also offering the film for $10 online viewing.

Long story short, I just bought 2 tickets for the added second show.

  12. Ken Ricci says...

If The Planotones were going to perform I’d buy a ticket.
The doc is just a bunch of old films put together. Guaranteed most people here have seen most of the videos on You Tube.

What could Kenny Vance tell the audience that they already don’t know?

    • Stop bitching!
Spend a few bucks, eat some popcorn, have a Coke and go see the film.
It’s a nice evening out and it just may take you back in time to an era when we were kids without a care in the world!

      • Laura Gutheit says...

        Muriel,
        I’m with you!
I can remember at 13 hearing SHE CRIED for the first time on the radio. To this very day SHE CRIED is one of my favorite songs of all time.
I can’t wait to see this movie and maybe get a chance to ask Kenny, was Jay Black as great a singer as I think he was?

        • Anna Martin says...

          Laura,
You don’t have to ask Kenny about Jay.
“Jay” was one of the greatest Rock N Roll singers of all time.

  13. Lou Eisner says...

    Jeff,
The advertisement says online, $18, at the door $20/
Check the site for the added show, when you go to buy the $18 ticket there is a $2 booking fee added.
So, buy now or buy at door, the ticket still costs everyone $20.

    • Jay Ford says...

      Cute, really cute!
      Same $20 for either ticket.

  14. Gary L says...

    Both shows are sold out,
