It is now some 5 1/2 years later- and I just wanted to tell -new as well as old- Jeff Eats’ readers that I LOVE this joint-and if you live or work anywhere-near The Boys Farmers Market make it your business to shop there…trust me, you will be thrilled that you did!

If you can “handle” its parking-lot…with senior citizens “backing in and backing out” non-stop…The Boys Farmers Market is an absolutely great place to shop for fruits, fresh squeezed juices, vegetables, baked goods, cheeses, wines, candies, seafood, meats, coffees and prepared chicken/seafood/meat dishes.

Just guessing here, but The Boys’ probably has something like 30,000 square feet of indoor space jammed with top quality FOOD. All the free samples that you’d like…and everything sold, runs circles around joints like Publix, Winn Dixie and Albertsons, not to mention-probably cheaper.

My family has been shopping at The Boys Farmers Market for years…and I have been amazed by two things…namely, that we have never been involved in a fender-bender in its parking lot & the great stuff that it sells.

The Boys has its own bakery, squeezes its own juices and prepares its own “take out” food. This joint is an absolute-winner. If you live in the Delray Beach area, you probably already know about The Boys…for those of you who don’t, you got to go shopping there…just be careful in the parking lot.

The Boys Farmers Market is open 7 days a week.

Welcome to The Boys Farmers Market/Photo Source The Boys Farmers Market
The Boy’s Farmers Market has it all. If you walk out empty-handed after a day of shopping here, something is wrong. I have shopped here for years and never once left with less than three bags of groceries.

Jersey Fruit blueberries, Challah raisin bread, and fresh lobster daily are all found at The Boy’s Farmers Market. Farm-to-table shopping items at Delray’s local and iconic marketplace are what you pleasantly see as soon as you walk through the grocery’s legendary doors. With grass-fed meats and organic apples in a variety of shades that sparkle under the light, acting as an introduction to its pristine produce pals, this mega-market lives up to its reputation of quality in service, food, and presentation.

    The Boy’s Farmers Market

In Delray Beach, Florida sits The Boy’s Farmers Market, which is not only a market icon, it is iconic in its image. The architecture of this emporium is museum-like in its tall, broad, vast, larger-than-life stature but somehow manages to remain cozy. With its antique tractor outside and The Boy’s Farmers Market sign highlighting underneath their notables of fish, meat, and dairy, the shopper unmistakably has arrived at their unique buying experience. The grocery’s 19th-century construction, thinly bordered in blue, has a clean look with minimal lines and is stationed in an immaculate parking area, surrounded by beautiful emerald greenery, giving the customer a notion of what is inside.

Customer service at The Boy’s Farmers Market meet shoppers outside. The popularity of the store has courted assistance from store workers to conduct traffic, preventing accidents. But, as the patron enters the store, it is no longer the market employees or building that intrigues customers. Instead, it is the savory smell of rotisserie chickens that takes over, permeating through the air and leading the way to a bright and impressive produce section with perfectly placed fruits and vegetables. An array of fresh, colorful veggies inspire recipes for soups, stews, and unique salads. Bags of dried apricots, dates, papaya, and more piled high, sitting across from its garden-crisp cronies, add a sweet alternative to the produce department. The moment you enter, your appetite will appear.

The place is busy, but customers and staff alike will take a minute or two to chat. I met up with Myra in the produce area. She was happy to share her thoughts about the market.

“If you are not in New York you’ll never find a better place to shop for food. Everything is always fresh and in abundance. The staff is always eager to help me if I can’t reach something or have a question.”-Myra R.
I headed to the cheese section next. Robert was shopping. He was planning a special occasion for his soon-to-be bride.

“My folks have been coming here for a long time. So when I moved to the area I decided to give them a try. The products are amazing and that is why I came here today. I’m preparing a wine and cheese home date for my girlfriend. I’m about to ask her if she will marry me so I figured only the best wine and cheese would do. ” -Robert B.-
Shoppers take a walk down the narrow aisles; they may have to turn sideways if they carry a handheld basket but may find themselves in a bit of a physical dilemma if the aisles are crowded and they’re pushing a shopping cart. Nevertheless, many believe the quality stocked shelves of spices from different parts of the world and specialty can goods are all worth maneuvering around other shoppers.

The catering and cheese platters section is a spillover with artfully carved fruit arrangements and international cheeses near the meat counter. A galore of spectacular old-world charm set before a backdrop of classic-canned olive oils and hanging cheddars greet customers. Store workers are skillfully cutting, skinning, trimming, and prepping fruit for pre-requested platters or made-to-orders. The staff is like artists in action.

Farm-to-table shopping at Delray’s iconic marketplace, known for its fresh produce and meats, houses a section that highlights fresh seafood. This megastore showcases the sea’s most delicate scallops, lobsters, shrimp, and diversified fish selection.

There is also an abundance of specialty food goodies and treats at The Boys. Challah assorted loaves of bread, Tates Cookies, prepared foods, and fresh-pressed juices are some items that may be difficult to find at other local markets. In Delray, if you can’t find it a The Boy’s Farmers Market, then you can pretty much figure it does not exist locally.

The history of The Boy’s Farmers Market

This Delray Beach, Florida, market has a rich history. The Boy’s Farmers Market was nearly 60 years in the making. Mr. Palermo began laying the groundwork for The Boy’s Farmers Market in Manhattan’s Hell Kitchen with a food cart. The marketplace received its name from the son and grandchildren of the founder, Joseph Palermo. The Boy’s Farmers Market—Joe Jr., Richie, Mike, John, and Frank—whom Mrs. Palermo often referred to as “the boys” during their days of maintaining a vegetable stand for 40 years in Staten Island. Eighteen years later, the Palermos relocated to Delray Beach, Florida, and established what would later become a local, iconic marketplace.

Life is good in Delray Beach, Florida, where a marketplace offers curbside service, delivering your groceries directly to you when arriving in your car. The Boy’s operational hours, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM on Monday through Saturday and 9-5 on Sundays, indicate they are serious about store preparation. The workers are friendly, and the layout is always impeccable. As a result, store items are never hard to find. The aisles are narrow but labeled plainly. However, if the store becomes too overwhelming for shoppers, they can rely on the employees to guide them to their sought-after provisions.

Joseph Palermo and his family have established more than a marketplace. It garners rave reviews from those near and far because people appreciate excellence. The Boy’s Farmers Market grows with its audience, for it is a green market, offering organic and sustainable goods and never parting with climate change. It is unknown if Palermo foresaw the evolution of our planet and diet, but it is indisputable he and his family understood the importance of quality from day one.

You have to see The Boy’s old-fashioned farmers market. This place is simply amazing. As their mantra goes, if they don’t have it, you don’t need it.
