No question about it from 1969-1974 Three Dog Night was one of the world’s most successful Rock n’ Roll bands…

Just so you know, during the band’s “run” it had- THREE LEAD VOCALISTS all at the same time, namely Danny Hutton, Cory Wells, and Chuck Negron. Wells passed away in 2015 and Negron hasn’t been in the band for years, so ticket-holders will only be seeing/hearing- Hutton!

Personally, I’m kinda thinking that Negron was the “main voice”… maybe this event should be “advertised” as One Dog Night- Live In Concert!

Anyway, YOUR call on this show…

Legendary band, THREE DOG NIGHT, now in its 5th decade, claims some of the most astonishing statistics in popular music. In the years 1969 through 1974, no other group achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than THREE DOG NIGHT. THREE DOG NIGHT hits weave through the fabric of pop culture today, whether on the radio where they are heard day in and day out, in TV commercials or in major motion pictures — songs like “Mama Told Me (Not To Come)”, “Joy to the World”, “Black and White”, “Shambala” and “One” serve to heighten our emotions and crystallize THREE DOG NIGHT’s continuing popularity. This Grammy-nominated band is not content resting on its legacy alone. Always working to expand its audience, THREE DOG NIGHT has embraced and been embraced by 21st century music technology. New and existing fans buy THREE DOG NIGHT’s music on iTunes as well as at record stores. In fact, releases from this decade alone have sold well over a million copies. THREE DOG NIGHT also pushed boundaries by recording with the London Symphony Orchestra, giving fans new and old a chance to experience its dynamic performances of the hits as well as several new songs. The project, recorded at the famous Abbey Road studios in London and released to coincide with the band’s 35th Anniversary, added exciting new orchestral arrangements to THREE DOG NIGHT’s signature sound. THREE DOG NIGHT maintains an aggressive, year-round touring schedule of over 90 dates a year, performing their hit filled concerts for generation-spanning audiences. The band’s now-famous name refers to native Australian hunters in the outback who huddled with their dogs for warmth on cold nights; the coldest being a “three dog night”. Boasting chart and sales records that are virtually unmatched in popular music, THREE DOG NIGHT had 21 consecutive Top 40 hits, including 3 #1 singles, 11 Top 10’s, 18 straight Top 20’s, 7 million-selling singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs. The hits appeared on best selling charts in all genres (pop, rock and country). Its records continue to sell around the world, reaching beyond the borders of the U.S. into Japan, Canada, Holland, England, Germany, Spain and elsewhere. Tens of millions of THREE DOG NIGHT records have been sold through the years. Created in 1968 by Danny Hutton, THREE DOG NIGHT recorded the music of the best (and mostly undiscovered) new songwriters of their time including Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Elton John, Laura Nyro, Paul Williams and Hoyt Axton among many others. The group’s eclectic taste, combined with their ability to recognize and record hits in a unique, distinctive and appealing style, resulted in THREE DOG NIGHT dominating the charts for years. Marking over 50 years on the road, THREE DOG NIGHT continues to grow its fan base by keeping up a full schedule of concerts at theatres, performing arts centers, fairs, festivals, corporate events, and casinos. Since 1986, the band has performed over 2,500 shows including two Super Bowls. THREE DOG NIGHT’s 21 Top 40 Hits: Mama Told Me (Not To Come) #1

    Jeff,
    Right you are.
Negron who works all over the country was the main lead vocalist.
It’s nice to have someone like yourself who can tell readers the inside stuff on bands etc.

  2. Hutton was the founder of the band.
    Negron was the sound.
Saw Negron a few years ago at The Amp in Pompano, he was terrific.

    Waste of time.

By the way, Crest theater booked The Box Tops. Without Alex Chilton, there is really no group.

I think a lot of these theaters, condos etc who book acts really dont know what they are buying.

With Negron there really isn’t a Three Dog Night show.

    LOve your site.

I totally agree with you that the social directors in many condos, country clubs etc have no idea as to what they are booking.

For example , there is no Outsiders without Sonny Geraci, or Classics IV without DENNIS YOST, or The Platters without Tony Williams.

This show is like the current 4 Tops and Temps. Each group has 1 original member and that member
    wasn’t the lead singer.

    * The Temptations & The Four Tops.

The Temptations & The Four Tops at the Au-Rene Theater at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts- On Thursday, 1/31/19 at 8pm. Tickets go on sale 6/14/18 (10am) – ticketmaster.com.

Let’s call this one- “Going to the well once too often.”

Not trying to be mean, but when I think- The Temptations, I’m not thinking Otis Williams- and when I think- The Four Tops, I’m not thinking Duke Fakir. For the record, Williams and Fakir (neither is a lead singer) are the only original members in their respective groups currently still performing!

Take Jeff Eats’ word on this, the current lineups can’t hold a candle to the original group’s members and neither one of the current groups comes even close vocally to sounding like the phenomenal hit records that The Temptations and The Four Tops recorded in the 60’s & 70’s.

Like I said a few seconds ago, Let’s call this one- “Going to the well once too often.”

6:29 pm, just checked ticket map, not too many tkts sold. Loved the BAND in their prime, right now it’s just an act trying to make a quick buck.

    Jeff,
Hopefully your readers appreciate how you point out things about events etc, which no other blog does.
I’ll bet you, that no other site even mentioned that 2 out of the 3 lead singers won’t be there and that the one who will be there wasn’t the main lead singer.
