    Kim Wu Chinese Restaurant (Orlando)

Got a good Chinese joint for you…Kim Wu Chinese Restaurant in Orlando. Now, I’m not suggesting that you Miamians-Pembroke Pineians-Boca Ratonians (insert your South Florida “area” and add ‘ians’) schlep all the way to Orlando to eat—that said, if you work–live or happen to be in Kim Wu Chinese’s neighborhood—give it a shot.

Jeff Eats recently did dinner at Kim Wu. Applying my Brooklyn-Jewish 1950’s taste test, Jeff Eats “sampled”—wonton soup, bbq ribs, egg rolls, sweet & sour chicken, general tso’s chicken (no spice), moo shu pork, roast pork fried rice—I gotta tell you that the joint’s stuff was pretty decent. You can check menu/prices at http://www.asiavtour.com.

Now just so we are straight, this is American-Chinese food, so you guys looking for Hong Kong or Real Chinese stuff (whatever that is!), this joint ain’t for you.

Let me flesh this story out a bit for you…obligatory strip center location. Lunch buffet. All kinds of “specials.” Mom & Pop service/prices. On the food front, I really enjoyed the wonton soup, general tso’s chicken, sweet & sour chicken and the moo shu pork—I’d rate these dishes in total 83.354% better than “others” I’ve had in South Florida. The egg rolls, fried rice and ribs, nothing special going on there.

Let’s wrap this one up this way…

Kim Wu Chinese is a good place to know about.

Kim Wu is open for lunch-dinner 7 days a week.

    ***** Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant.

Way-back on April 13, 2014 Jeff Eats told you guys about- Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant in Miami.

Just between us, I hadn’t been back since that “story” appeared.

Long story short, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate dinner there last night and I gotta tell you- this joint makes some top-notch delicious stuff.

For our purposes, we’re gonna call Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant an “out of sight, out of mind” situation…trust me, it’s a schlep and a half from Boca Raton!

    Anyway,

With “Season” fast approaching, the next time one of your ” visiting out of state friends” asks- “You got any good Chinese restaurants down here?- with your head held high, clothed in your tee shirt/shorts/sneakers’ ensemble- you can tell them all about/or take them to -Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant!

Got a terrific-Chinese joint for you…Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant in Miami.

For what it’s worth, Jeff Eats can’t begin to tell you–how many times in any given month–somebody comes up to me and says–and I paraphrase “Can’t find decent Chinese food down here.” By the way–I counted 3x in March 2014–but who’s counting?

Between Jeff Eats and you–there are actually a load of good Chinese restaurants/take outs down here in Sunny South Florida…just like there are a ton of really good pizza joints down here–but that’s a story for another day!

If you guys check, Jeff Eats’ “Chinese” there are a number of rave Chinese reviews.

    Anyway…

Before I get going on Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant–I’m thinking that in NYC, Chicago, Boston, Cleveland (you can pick your favorite non-South Florida City) there are plenty of lousy/horrendous Chinese restaurants. If memory serves me correctly, when the-Eats Family lived in Manhattan from 1979-1991 there was a Chinese restaurant right across the street from our apartment building at the intersection of East 63rd Street and 2nd Avenue that served up some of the most disgusting stuff imaginable—as a matter of fact, there was also a Chinese joint one block away on 2nd Avenue and East 62nd Street that was a close second to the “guy” on 63rd Street. Get the point! If not, this “food reviewing”-deal is a strictly subjective enterprise.

    Back to Silver Palace…

Recently ate at Silver Palace and thought that the food was dynamite. Just so you know, the joint has 2-menus. One for us “Brooklyn” folks looking for Jewish-Brooklyn- American Chinese food circa 1957–and another for you folks into “real authentic” (whatever that means? probably garlic squid-but not sure) Chinese food.

The Silver Palace meal…won ton soup, egg drop soup, egg rolls, bbq ribs, sweet & sour pork, roast pork fried rice, pepper steak, garlic chicken, shrimp in lobster/black bean sauce–and I gotta tell you–“imho” this joint could make a real-good living in NYC’s China Town. For those of you who like pecking-orders, the garlic chicken and sweet & sour pork were off-the-chart. By the way, your tee shirt/shorts/flip flop ensemble will definitely work-in this mom & pop joint.

    Quick story…

A few months ago, a friend (not gonna mention names) raved about NYC’s– Shun Lee Palace’s food claiming that the Chinese food in South Florida was- and I quote “dog food” …to make a long story short, this same guy and his wife were with Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats when we ate at Silver Palace–and during dinner told me, and I quote-“This food is better than Shun Lee’s, at half-the-price.” Like I said, before, this food reviewing business–is purely a subjective game.

I’ll leave it up to you guys to decide for yourselves—all I know is that Silver Palace’s food was “imho” TERRIFIC!

Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant is open 7 days a week 11am-10pm.

    Ming’s Bistro (Orlando)

    ***** Ming’s Bistro, 1212 Woodward Street, Orlando, Florida 32803, (407) 898-9672.

Got a real-good Chinese joint for you guys…Ming’s Bistro in Orlando.

Now, Jeff Eats maybe a bit presumptuous here-but I’m thinking… that if you like dim sum, or American Jewish Brooklyn Chinese Food circa 1957, or “real” Chinese food-you’re gonna enjoy Ming’s Bistro.

Just so you know, Ming’s doesn’t have a website to check menu/prices, but trust me, its got a ton of stuff for you guys to eat–all at neighborhood Chinese joint prices.

The joint does have the requisite no frills “décor”-lots of “red signage”- hanging roast pigs and ducks- oil cloth/tablecloths-waitresses who “make” like they don’t understand you, etc.

    Anyway,

A recent dinner outing had Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple- “trying”- wonton soup, fried shrimp balls, baked bbq pork buns, roast pork fried rice, bbq pork ribs, beef chow fun, sweet & sour chicken, roast duck, fried sesame balls, seafood pan fried noodles, pepper steak, egg custard tart. Everything was right on the money!

Ming’s Bistro is a real good joint to know about. Like it says at the “top” it’s in Orlando-so if you live in that neck of the woods- definitely give it a shot! For you folks from out of the area, the next time you’re doing Disney, Universal, Sea World–skip the chains and do this mom & pop.

    Ming’s is open 7 days a week 10:30am-9:30pm.

    China City (Cooper City)

    ***** China City, 9552 Griffin Road, Cooper City, Florida 33328, (954) 434-0470.

Got a real good, reasonably priced, “mom & pop” Chinese joint for you guys, China City in Cooper City.

If you are looking for delicious- Brooklyn Jewish American Chinese Food circa 1957- China City’s wonton soup, egg rolls, pan fried dumplings, bbq ribs, roast pork fried rice, General Tso’s chicken and pepper steak will have you thinking that Marty McFly took you for a ride and that you gotta start studying for the Algebra Regents.

Nothing fancy going on here…but trust Jeff Eats when I tell you- GOOD STUFF! If you need more convincing, if China City was by my house, I’d be a real strong steady customer.

The joint is open Tuesday-Friday 11am-10pm, Saturday noon-10pm, Sunday 3pm-9pm, closed on Monday.
