***** Mr. Shen’s Peking Chinese Restaurant, 9228 Glades Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33434, (561) 482-1086.

Not exactly sure on this, but I’m thinking Mr. Shen’s has been around for something like 25 years.

Anyway,

Best way to describe Mr. Shen’s- a decent enough American Chinese Restaurant.

Jeff Eats got friends who swear by this joint…despite the fact that they are born and bred Queens’ boys circa- 1950’s-1960’s- they really don’t know dick (I know that this is suppose to be a family friendly blog site!) as to what constitutes real good Brooklyn Jewish American Chinese Food or in their case, what constitutes real good Queens Jewish American Chinese Food- applying 1950-1969 parameters.

Long story short, for as long as Jeff Eats has been down here (22 years)-at least twice a year- to keep the peace, I let these guys and their wives schlep me and Mrs. Jeff Eats to this Mr. Shen’s Chinese Restaurant joint.

Anyway,

Last night was the latest schlepping- wonton soup, egg drop soup, fried dumplings, egg rolls, bbq ribs, chicken fried rice, sweet & sour pork, pepper steak, shrimp with lobster sauce, roast pork chow fun and like I said 3.6 seconds ago, these guys don’t know dick as to what consitutes real good Brooklyn or Queens Jewish American Chinese Food applying 1950-1969 parameters. I will tell you, in all fairness- the egg rolls weren’t half bad!

If you are looking for decent- enough American Chinese food, checkout menu/prices/other info at shenspeking.com. If you are looking for real good Brooklyn/Queens Jewish American Chinese Food- as Dionne Warwick sang…”Walk on By.”

Mr. Shen’s Peking Chinese Restaurant is open 7 days a week 11:30am-9:30pm.

I and my wife have lived in Boca Raton for over 10 years. I found Mr. Shen’s way back when because it is right next door to the Boca Ale House one of our favorite sports bars in Boca.
Over the years my wife and I have probably eaten there 5 times. The food is ok but nothing really out of the ordinary. It is a very well run restaurant and its prices maybe a buck or two higher than surrounding neighborhood restaurants. My wife was born in Bronx and I am originally from Forest Hills. I like to think that we know what really good American Chinese food is and Mr. Shen’s is far from being really good. For reference if you want really good American Chinese food, Bamboo Wok which is literally 2 minutes away but is takeout only has really good food. Don’t recall any one dish at Mr. Shen’s that stood out including the egg rolls.

    Jeff,
I think that you are dead wrong on this call.
My family has been eating there for years and we have never had a bad meal.

Mr. Shen’s has been around for years and years. On the weekends it is always jammed. It is a throwback in looks to how Chinese restaurants looked in boros in the 69s and 70s. They have decent food and good service. They draw an older crowd that probably members NYC Chinese restaurants of old. Is the food great? Not even close. It gets the job done but there are a lot better in the area. My favorite is Uncle Tai’s in Boca and China Dumpling in Boynton Beach. I see that someone here mentioned Bamboo Wok for takeout. Their food is excellent but it’s not for eat in.

    JEFF –
    This place is good –
It’s near Century Village and gets their traffic –
Like the old days of Chinese food –
Plates and bowls of food arrive with silver covers like we remember –
    FUNNY STORY –
The next table to us had 8 people at the end they pulled out 8 credit cards – Mr Shen got crazy – He yelled “not take 8 credit cards from same table – You pay cash “

    Food is fair.
    Service is good.
Prices a drop on the high side.

I’ve eaten there twice. That was about 10 years ago. Back then the food was meh.
Found a number of better places.
I will tell you that a number of friends really enjoy Shen’s.
I guess each to their own.
