* “Zinger’s Delicatessen–1 Year Anniversay”

About a year-ago, I told you guys about Zinger’s Delicatessen which had just opened in Boca Raton. One year later–some things bear repeating…

Zinger’s Delicatessen is one of the best, if not the best–New York Kosher Style Deli in South Florida.

I have “reprinted” Jeff Eats’ August 18, 2011 review…and it needs “only” three minor changes:
1: Zinger’s is open 7 days a week for lunch/dinner and for breakfast on Saturday-Sunday,
2: Zinger’s “current” potato knishes are as good as the pushcart-ones I mentioned.
3: Zinger’s website is up and running.

If real New York Kosher Style deli is you game, you gotta try Zinger’s Delicatessen!

***** Zinger’s Delicatessen, 7132 Beracasa Way, Boca Raton, Florida 33433, (561) 826-7323.

If, delicious- New York Kosher Style Deli is your game—you absolutely, positively have to give Zinger’s Delicatessen in Boca Raton a try.

For you fressers out there…Zinger’s in a “former” life, was Pastrami Queen (see 9/12/08 writeup)…to make a long story short, family “matters” resulted in Pastrami Queen closing in late 2010. This past Tuesday, Zinger’s opened for business—for our purposes, SAME OWNER!–NEW “NYC” DECOR!–SAME TERRIFIC FOOD!

Last night I ate dinner at Zinger’s.

Zinger’s is located in the exact-spot where Pastrami Queen was. Gary Zinger who owned Pastrami Queen is Zinger’s owner. The restaurant’s layout hasn’t changed, but the decor has…let’s just say, that stainless steel walls/ceiling and art-deco signage rival the best-deli decor here and in NYC. The joint has 3-flat screen tvs and a takeout counter that will make you want to quit Weight Watchers.

Let’s talk food…

To be perfectly honest with you, I seriously doubt that there is a better New York Kosher Style Deli down here in South Florida. I’ll even go so-far as to say, Zinger’s Delicatessen can easily hold its own with legendary players like NYC’s- Carneige, Stage, 2nd Avenue and Katz’s delis…if you aren’t a native Nooo Yoorker, please feel free to insert your hometown favorite delis’ names.

Just so you know, I was a Pastrami Queen “regular”…so, it was absolutely impossible to eat-at Zinger’s, shall we say incognito. The meal was “on the arm” with Gary Zinger literally having me “try” everything in the joint. Take it for what it’s worth, the pastrami, corned beef, brisket, turkey off the bone are as good as it gets. The joint also makes- delicious, potato pancakes-chopped liver-tuna salad-chicken salad-matzoh ball soup-smashed French fries-Italian beef sub.

Just so we are straight…don’t want you to think that I’m a Zinger’s shill—I’ve eaten better potato knishes—like the ones my father, brother Andy and I use to get in 1958 from the pushcart stationed right outside of Fortunoff on Livonia Avenue in Brooklyn while waiting for my mother to finish shopping.

Trust me on this…Zinger’s is a homerun.

Like I said before, I tried a load of stuff. I will tell you, that the sandwiches being delivered to the tables were nice-sized… I didn’t see one group leave without a doggy bag… and no one bitched to Gary about the service/prices.

Zinger’s website is www.zingersdelicom. The site is currently under construction, so give it some-time to get up and running.

Zinger’s does breakfast, lunch and dinner…The joint is open 7 days a week 7am-10pm.

    Jeff Eats:

I have lived in Boca Raton close to 25 years. Before that I lived in Queens for 27 years and Manhattan 14 years. I think that I know a thing or two about NYkosher style delis.

When I was a kid, there was seemingly a deli on every other corner. Same for candy stores. There were bagel stores but all they did was make bagel and bialys, there was no eating there.

Many people in Florida think that these bagel stores are delis. THEY AREN’T!!!!!

Since I have been in Florida, I have found 3 real delis that know how to make DELI. They are Zinger’s, Pomperdale and Ben’s. There maybe others, but these are the best that I have found.

I’ve eaten in Zinger’s maybe 10 times. Pomperdale maybe 15 times and ben’s maybe 15 times. Never had a bad meal in any of them.

Now to the point, if I had to pick one out of the three as being the best I would pick Zinger’s. It’s a close call, but besides haven’t a bit of an edge in the food department I find it to be the most consistent of the three.

If your readers want real deli they have my three picks.

    Thanks for listening,

    Ed Rosenfeld

FYI, I have been going to Pomperdale’s for over 20 years and it was the best. Original owners have passed on and it is now under new ownership and everything has changed. The food has dropped in quality and I will no longer visit this establishment.

  2. LME says...

    I love Zinger’s.
By far and away the best deli in the area.
Its pastrami and corned beef are to die for.

  3. Gregg L. Friedman MD says...

Zinger’s provides great deli food with a friendly staff. The service was excellent and I found many nice items on the menu. By Gregg L. Friedman MD, Psychiatrist, Hallandale Beach, FL

  4. TYE STORE says...

Zinger’s is the best deli in s Florida.
Anyone who tells you differently has no idea whatsoever as to what great pastrami, corned beef and brisket sandwiches are all about.
Zinger’s can easily hold its own against NY’s most famous delis. As a matter of fact, I personally think that Zinger’s food is better than Katz, Carneige, 2nd Avenue and the Stage.
If you think that I’m making this stuff up, just try Zinger’s once and find out for yourself.

  5. Scotty says...

Jeff, you are right on, Zinger’s is by far the best real NY style deli in South Florida. The food is fresh, served well, has an outstanding staff and has a great atmosphere for a quality deli. My only issue is that they are not “around the corner” or I would eat there every other day. All the very best!

  6. Larry F says...

Tons of people down here confuse quantity over quality. I cant begin to tell you how many of my friends tell me how great 3 G’s Deli is. Or how great Too Jay’s Deli is. They think because they get a lot of food at a reasonable price that they are getting quality food. 3 G’s and Too Jay’s food is lousy.
Zinger’s is a real top shelf deli.
It may not be as cheap as the others but the food is the best around. You pay for what you get.
If you want to eat the best NY style deli in Florida just go to Zinger’s.
    You won’t be disappointed.

    • larry couldnt have said it better myself.
people down here think that cheap and big portions makes something good.
      zinger’s is the real deal.

      • Mark says...

        Stu,

As a Floridian can you please explain who “the people down here ” are? As 90% of the people down here are from up there:)

  8. carls says...

Does anyone know if Zinger makes (cures) his pastrami and corned beef himself? The place was great as the Pastrami Queen. Hope to get back there again

Definitely when I was little in Queens we had lots of kosher style delis on par with Katz’s. For me the staples had to be served. Pastrami, corn beef, solid knishes with potato or kasha inside, and knockwurst which were also called “specials”. They were rally fat garlicky hots dogs. Katz still has them, I have not seen them in Florida

    • JerryL33496 says...

Not sure if Zinger’s cures its own meats or not. What I do know is that Zinger’s pastrami and corned beef are delicious. I try and get there every 10 days or so and not once have I had a bad meal.

  9. Ed G says...

Best NY Kosher Style Deli in Florida.
If you know good deli you got to try Zinger’s.
    You will love the food.

  10. Jon Greenberg says...

I’ve been to Zingers it very good. However it’s doesn’t come close to Katz’s in any category.

    • THA says...

Katz’s is no match for Zinger’s. Zinger’s food is much better.

  11. gerald goldman says...

since the rascal house in north miami beach closed there are only medicre deli restaurants. I guess if all you are after is corned beef you can get it at several places and it will be ok. The rascal house blew away these other places though with every single itemn from soups to desserts and everything in between.
Did I mention rolls or the breakfast danish, cakes and such? Once wolfie cohen died it started on its way downhill. At the end it was pure garbage.

    • Don Fallon says...

gg, got to disagree with you.
i was a big fan of the rascal house in n miami. the one that briefly opened in boca raton was a disaster from day one.
the rascal house had good food, huge portions and reasonable prices.
when jerry’s deli from los angeles acquired the business that started the collapse.
rascal house’s food on its best day in north miami was not as good as zinger’s or for that matter ben’s in boca raton.
no question rascal house had good food and gave you loads of it, but these two other delis are better from the get go.

      • frank w says...

The Jerry’s in Miami Beach is an absolute disaster. Very strange since the one in L.A. is excellent.

  12. Manny Kramer says...

Ive been eating in kosher and kosher style delis for the better part of 60 years.
It amazes me that most people have no idea what NY Kosher Style Deli is all about.
Rather than going into all kinds of detail I suggest that you try the food served by Zinger’s, then you’ll know.

  13. TG says...

    Lunch today.
Store was mobbed had a tongue sandwich on rye.
    Delicious.

  21. HV says...

Jeff, Well the Jewish holidays are done. If i see one more piece of pot roast it will be too soon.
Over the holidays I had two dinners catered from Zinger’s.
Both dinners featured turkey, brisket and various other meats.
I am a big fan of Zinger’s and have eaten there many times during the past year.
I really enjoyed the catered food and can’t recall better holiday food in the 21 years I’ve been in Florida.
Years ago my wife and I use to get food from Mr. Royal and David’s both in Boca Raton. They are gone and Zinger’s has very nicely filled the void.

  22. Jerry A says...

Zinger’s is by far and away the best NY Kosher Style Deli in Florida.
My wife and I try and get there at least once a week.
For those of those you who haven’t eaten there I wold suggest getting over there.

  28. AWE says...

    Jeff,
Ordered a turkey, brisket, etc from Zinger’s for Thanksgiving.
    Food was terrific.
Can’t think of even one deli in the area that comes close to making food as delicious as Zinger’s makes.

  29. Tom Stetson says...

Jeff, originally from NYC. I’d match Zinger’s up against the City’s best. Pastrami and corned beef are outrageously delicious.

  30. Gene R. says...

  33. Linda G. says...

My husband and I ate there yesterday for the first time. The food is delicious. I can’t remember when I’ve had a better brisket on rye. My husband also loved his pastrami on club and the ff and potato knish were excellent.

  34. YouAreIt says...

I seriously doubt that there is a better NY Kosher Style Deli in all of Florida.
    Zinger’s food is delicious.

  35. RRF says...

No doubt in my mind, Zinger’s is the best ny kosher style deli in fl. Have eaten there many times and the food has always been delicious.

  36. Steve Edelman says...

I know that what consitutes great NY Kosher Style Deli food is a very heated debate,
So I won’t try and convince anybody here of anything.
All I can tell you is that my wife and I started to eat at Zinger’s about 8 months ago and we haven’t been to another deli since then.
    The food is fabulous.

  37. R. Golden says...

    Jeff:
My husband and I live in Boynton Beach. We heard about Zinger’s in Jeff Eats. Ate there last night and the pastrami and corned beef sandwich and French fries were excellent. We have lived here for over 17 years and as former Bronx folks I can tell you that Zinger’s is as good as any deli we use to frequent in NYC.

  38. The Federmans says...

Best pastrami and corned beef in Florida.
As good if not better than the food we use to eat years ago in Brooklyn.

  39. Mark K says...

    One of your best recommendations.
Haven’t found any other deli in s fl that’s as good.
Their pastrami is the best I’ve had in many years.

Got to agree with you. Zinger’s food is terrific.

  40. judy e says...

    love their pastrami.

  41. Saul T. says...

    Jeff:
I have lived in Boca Raton for over 30 years. I am originally from Queens where I lived for 42 years.
There are only two decent NY style delis in s Florida namely Ben’s and Zinger’s. It’s really a tossup up on who’s better, but I’d give the edge to Zinger’s.
There use to be a third player and that was Pomperdale in Ft. Lauderdale. It has been in business around 55 years. It was recently sold a couple of years ago and the new owner cut the quality and service. It’s now a total mess and a huge disaster.
That’s the deli story in s Fl. in a nutshell.

  42. JSW says...

Best pastrami I’ve had in years.

  43. midwoodhigh says...

Terrific corned beef and pastrami sandwiches all around. Same for the ff, coleslaw, sour pickles and kasha knishes.

  46. TATATFORNOW says...
