***** Zinger’s Delicatessen, 7132 Beracasa Way, Boca Raton, Florida 33433, (561) 826-7323.

If, delicious- New York Kosher Style Deli is your game—you absolutely, positively have to give Zinger’s Delicatessen in Boca Raton a try.

For you fressers out there…Zinger’s in a “former” life, was Pastrami Queen (see 9/12/08 writeup)…to make a long story short, family “matters” resulted in Pastrami Queen closing in late 2010. This past Tuesday, Zinger’s opened for business—for our purposes, SAME OWNER!–NEW “NYC” DECOR!–SAME TERRIFIC FOOD!

Last night I ate dinner at Zinger’s.

Zinger’s is located in the exact-spot where Pastrami Queen was. Gary Zinger who owned Pastrami Queen is Zinger’s owner. The restaurant’s layout hasn’t changed, but the decor has…let’s just say, that stainless steel walls/ceiling and art-deco signage rival the best-deli decor here and in NYC. The joint has 3-flat screen tvs and a takeout counter that will make you want to quit Weight Watchers.

Let’s talk food…

To be perfectly honest with you, I seriously doubt that there is a better New York Kosher Style Deli down here in South Florida. I’ll even go so-far as to say, Zinger’s Delicatessen can easily hold its own with legendary players like NYC’s- Carneige, Stage, 2nd Avenue and Katz’s delis…if you aren’t a native Nooo Yoorker, please feel free to insert your hometown favorite delis’ names.

Just so you know, I was a Pastrami Queen “regular”…so, it was absolutely impossible to eat-at Zinger’s, shall we say incognito. The meal was “on the arm” with Gary Zinger literally having me “try” everything in the joint. Take it for what it’s worth, the pastrami, corned beef, brisket, turkey off the bone are as good as it gets. The joint also makes- delicious, potato pancakes-chopped liver-tuna salad-chicken salad-matzoh ball soup-smashed French fries-Italian beef sub.

Just so we are straight…don’t want you to think that I’m a Zinger’s shill—I’ve eaten better potato knishes—like the ones I, my father and brother Andy use to get in 1958 from the pushcart stationed right outside of Fortunoff on Livonia Avenue in Brooklyn while waiting for my mother to finish shopping.

Trust me on this…Zinger’s is a homerun.

Like I said before, I tried a load of stuff. I will tell you, that the sandwiches being delivered to the tables were nice-sized… I didn’t see one group leave without a doggy bag… and no one bitched to Gary about the service/prices.

Zinger’s website is www.zingersdelicom. The site is currently under construction, so give it some-time to get up and running.

Zinger’s does breakfast, lunch and dinner…The joint is open 7 days a week 7am-10pm.

Was in for dinner last night around 7pm. Very busy.
For those of you who havent tried Zinger’s yet, you should. This is as close to a real NYC deli in Florida that you’ll comeby.
    The food is terrific.
The restaurant has the look at feel of the delis that are in NYC.
    Enjoy.

  2. CCC says...

I know pastrami. Seriously I would match Zinger’s agaiinst anyone’s in Florida. As a matter of fact I think it’s better than NY’s Stage and Carneige.

Heff it was nice meeting you and chatting yesterday at Zingers. Yes, the pastrami was excellent, though I thought the corned beef was a bit bland. The matzo ball soup was perfection. I’ll be checking out your reviews of other restaurants to see if we agree. Take care

    Howard Weiss:

Just had a chance to read your comments.

It was a pleasure meeting you and your parents.
Glad you enjoyed the pastrami. Personally, I think that Zinger’s makes one of the best, if not the best pastrami sandwich in South Florida. On the corned beef, some people like it with a bit of fat, some like it lean and some like it extra lean. To me, lean or extra lean no matter where it comes from tastes sort of like sandpaper and real bland. I love fatty corned beef. I think the “fat” adds tremendous flavor to the sandwich.
Not sure how the stuff you had “was.” Maybe it was too lean etc.

    Anyway…nice chatting.

    Thanks for reading…

Uh, in order to fix things with my wife, I have to set the record straight that I was with my wife and father-in-law. Yesterday for his 90th birthday we went to TooJays. We all thought that the blintzes were better (and creamier) at TooJays, though the matzo ball soup was def better at Zingers.

  5. Ronnie F. says...

    Jeff:

People around here bitch a lot about bagels and this and that not being as good as what we use to get when we lived in NY. Personally, I’d match Zinger’s deli against the best I had in New York and I lived in Ozone Park for over 30 years.
    Happy holidays to all.

  6. Nathan Rosen says...

I owned a kosher deli on Long Island for years. The real deal eaters always ordered their corned beef on the fatty side. Without that fat the sandwich is virtually tasteless. To this day I Can’t figure why some ordered it lean and some even wanted it extra lean.
The other day I had a corned beef on rye. Ordered it on the fatty side and French fries. Absolutely delicious.

  7. Mr. Ed says...

BEST NY KOSHER STYLE DELI IN FLA……..what is is. You folks got to stop fooling yourselves that these bagel joints are real delis. Stop playing the dollar game. Because something is cheap and they give you a ton of food doesn’t mean that it’s any good. What it means is that it’s cheap and there is a lot of it.
My neighbors swear by Gramercy in Boynton and Too Jays in Boca. They are retired school teachers need I say more? They got dollar bills that are so old that Washington wasn’t old enough to wear a wig.

  8. Matt B. says...

Passover Seder 2012 last night. Food from Zinger’s included chopped liver, matzo ball soup, roast turkey, and brisket. Food was delicious.
    Zinger’s did a great job.
    Happy holidays to all.

    • JS says...

We also did Passover this year with Zinger’s food. Here’s how I score it. Turkey A
      Brisket A
      Matzo ball A
      Chopped liver A
      Roasted potatoes A
      Potatoes kugel C
      Green Beans C
The turkey and chopped liver were as good as any that I’ve had in previous years from others.
For those who have been around this area for awhile. Mr. Royal and then David’s we’re the big players for the holidays. They are both now gone. Both made excellent food. Zinger’s by far and away now has the best holiday food.

  9. NR (Delray) says...

No doubt in my mind that this is the best ny kosher style deli in Sofia.

    • jane kimmel says...

i agree with you, the best around. love their food.

  10. George the Greek says...

Zingers is one of the better Delis around. Cornbeeef and off the frame Turkey was excellent up there with the best in Florida. The hotdogs were terrible. The chopped liver was great at Zingers. French fries were very bland. Cole slaw tastes like a health Slaw, bland. I think Too Jays has a better Matzah ball soup. The Jay normous at TOO jays is a better value, 1.5 ilbs of deli with fries for around $15.00. The cole slaw and pickles are better at Bens and the cornbeef quality is close to zingers with Too Jays third in rank. The soup at Bens is the worst, tastes like water. The kinishes at Bens and Zingers are equal with Too Jays next in line.Bens has a card that gives you discounts and Too jays has a lunch club. Not sure what the exact promotion is.If you want good Deli , Zingers is a good choice.

  11. DeliGirl says...

Zinger’s is heads and shoulders better than any other deli in Florida and I’ve tried loads of them.

  12. Ostrow says...

It’s a toss up between Zinger’s and Pomperdale as to which one is better. Both have great food. Besides these two there are really no good NY kosher style delis in SFLA. By the way Ben’s in Boca is too inconsistent for my me. Sometimes the food is good and sometimes it isn’t.

  13. rabbit says...

I’ve eaten in loads of delis. Carneige, Stage, 2nd Ave, Katz in NYC.
Zinger’s is better than all of them and that’s no bs.

    • Native New Yorker. Been to all of them. Zinger’s is better than all of those listed. And that’s no bull sheet. Try Zinger’s it’s really terrific.

  14. Mel Aplebaum says...

On 5/17,had lunch there. Ordred their pastrami on rye, and brisket on rye. Pastrami was excellent with just the right spices and fattiness. Almost melted in my mouth. My companion, who hales form Chicago, and was a baker for over 50 years, commented that his brisket was the best he had ever tasted, and thought the rye was excellent. Half sours, also brought back wonderful memories of Weintraub’s on Water St.,in Worcester. Was surprised when waitress delivered my pastrami, only half a slice of pickle was on plate.I asked for more, and was quickly given a plate full. I agree with another reviewer’s comment about the slaw, which was thin, runny, & basically, blah, and that’s being kindly.
Lastly, the service I received from the wait staff was both kindly & efficient.
Bottomline: I’ve now found a place to get my weekly pastrami fix.
ps: Also, Matzhoh Ball soup was delicious —better than my grandmothers —–forgive me bubby.

  15. JHR says...

Based on your recommendation I first tried Zinger’s about 6 weeks ago.
Since my first meal I’ve been back for breakfasts, lunches and dinners at least 10 times. I’ve also done takeout several times.
Zinger’s food is as good if not better than the delis I enjoyed when I lived in Brooklyn. I’ve been in Deerfield for 7 years.
Zinger’s pastrami, corned beef and brisket are delcious same for matzoh ball and kreplach soups.
The French fries and kasha and potato knishes are also excellent.
I am so glad that I read your review.
Zinger’s is everything you said it was and even more.
    Thanks,
    JHR

  16. Dori says...

My husband had bumped into one of the owners on his way to the bathroom. The owner did offer, as always customers come first. My husband being the nice guy that he is allowed the owner to go first as the restaurant was quite busy and slightly arou, it seemed proper to as his attention was obviously needed elsewhere.
As my husband waited, and the door opened, he noticed that he had not washed his hands.
As my husband returned to the table and pointed this man out and filled me in, I started to watch his mannerisms as he came from the side of the counter and wiped his hand across his face and then through his hair. I began to notice the waitresses fixing their hair in the middle of the dining room.
Word to the owner and staff, you are serving food, cleanliness is next to godliness.
Next time we feel like deli, well go back to Bens or Two Jays. It’s worth the extra few minute drive to not have to worry what hands have touched our plates or food.

    • Dori,
Sorry to say I think that you are full of crap.
My wife and I eat at Zingers at least 3 times a month.
In all of that time we never even once saw as you say the waitresses fixing their hair in the middle of the dining room. Just think how absurd that stupid phony comment sounds. In addition every time we have been there the counter people always wore clear plastic gloves when working. On the owner not washing his hands, I guess your husband who didn’t go in the bathroom actually watched the guy piss. Another stupid story that doesn’t hold up too well. As for the owner wiping his mouth and hair I kind of think it sound bogus because at the same time you also have the waitresses doing their hair. I guess that was staff time for fixing themselves up. I think that you are a nut making up things.
I think that you should go to Too Jays and Ben’s and stay away from Zinger’s. Eat their second rate food and be a happy camper.
By the way did you ever see how dirty the floor in Too Jays on Yamato road is? I guess not.
You’re a phony that probably tried to get a free meal with a coupon or something and failed so now your a nasty vindictive jerk.

    • YesYouCan says...

      Been to Zingers a lot.
      Best deli by far.
As for your health concerns, I never ever saw anything of concern.
Now about your going to Ben’s and Too Jay’s. Too Jay’s has crap food and Ben’s is strictly hit and miss.
There are only two delis in FL where I go Zingers and Pomperdale’s.
      Good luck lady!

  17. Hey Dori,
I use to work at Toojay’s.
You wouldn’t believe how many customers had the nerve to tell us that our silverware was dirty and actually asked for new forks, knives and spoons. The nerve of some people.
Think about this post the next time you eat at your favorite Toojay’s location.

  18. Henry O says...

    Dori Baby,
You got a husband who’s busy watching another guy piss and you’re worrying about some fellow not washing his hands. Sheesh!
I’ve eaten at Zinger’s numerous times. Great food and great service. Never really thought about it, but the restaurant is spotless and all of the help is attentive and professional.
You mention TooJay’s as an alternative, just curious, which is worse, a guy supposedly not washing his hands or the lipstick that was on the water glass that Toojay’s gave me the last time I ate there?
By the way, you ever look at Ben’s health dept inspection records? Bet you haven’t. Scary stuff going on in that restaurant. They got more violations going on there than you can shake a stick at.
So lady, from what I know you’d be better off sticking with Zingers where the food is great than going to those two dirty places that you mentioned for lousy food.
    See Ya!

    • Billy C. says...

      Crazy!
I eat there a lot and have always found the service terrific, large portions and delcious food.

I was there the other night and amazingly in late June at 7:30pm on a Thursday the restaurant and takeout was very busy.

They must be doing something right.

  29. MKA says...

My buddy and I had breakfast at Zinger’s this moning. He had a pastrami omelette and I had one of their speciality burnt onions/scrambled eggs. The food was delicious . Both item came with a bagel with cream cheese and potatoes. Definitely one of the better breakfasts we’ve had.

Was in there yesterday and the pastrami was great.

  31. DeliLover says...

    Jeff
I’ve eaten at Zinger’s a number of times. It is definitely the best deli I’ve been to in Florida. I think a number of Floridians confuse bagel stores with real delis. Zinger’s is a deli. It isn’t a bagel store where you go for a bagel and just passable food. Zinger’s serves top quality food and could compete with any NYC kosher style deli in NYC or elsewhere.

  32. EATGOOD3743 says...

How anyone can say that this isnt the best deli ins fl is beyond me.
i would match Zinger’s food upagainst any delihere in Fl or for that matter NYC.

    • TOOTSIE says...

      I agree with you 100%.
      Best deli around.

  33. Al Braverman says...

As a Brooklyn boy born in 1946 I think that I know what good kosher style deli is all about. Over the years I’ve eaten in countless delis all over the country and I definitely have to place Zinger’s in with the best of them.

I currently live in Deerfield Beach and am absolutely thrilled that I have a top notch deli where I can get delicious pastrami and corned beef sandwiches without breaking a sweat.

For those of you who haven’t yet tried Zinger’s, all I can say is that you are really missing out on something special.

  34. Lenny Kramer says...

To all of you former New Yorkers out there:
Zinger’s is as good as any deli we had back home.

  35. MSA says...

We ate breakfast there yesterday and it was delicious.

  36. Vic Roberts says...

I am a huge Zingers fan. The food is always delicious as is the service. As a former New Jerseyite I have have eaten in my fair share of NJ and NYC delis. Zingers is right up there with the best of them. I seriously urge your readers to try Zingers if they are looking for delicious quality food. If they are looking for bargain basement quanity over quality food then they should stick with Too jays and the other hack delis around the area.

  37. Ronnie Gold says...

    Ate there yesterday.
Best pastrami and potato knish I’ve had since moving to Deerfield 15 years ago.
    This is a must try!

I would rate its food as being as good as the top NYC delis.
I recently catered from them. Pastrami, Corned beef, brisket, tuna salad, chicken salad, chopped liver and a number of other items and every item was terrific.
For all of you native New Yorkers, try Zinger’s.
I guarantee you will love it.

  42. Xman2198 says...

There are only two good NYC STYLE delis in south Florida, Ben’s and Zinger’s. Both are in Boca Raton.
Both delis have good food and it really is a tossup as to who is better on any given day.
You cant go wrong with either one.

I have eaten in loads of delis and bagel places in south florida and zinger’s food is by far and away the best.
for the record, I also enjoy ben’s in boca. the food is also very good but not as good as zinger’s. what do enjoy at ben’s is their sunday night roast beef special. it’s really delicious.

  49. Hey folks,
I am 72 years old. Born in Bx and moved to Pompano in 1994. I know what good NY deli is all about. Places like Too Jays aren’t even close. Same for 3Gs and all of the bagel stores down here.
About a week ago I ate lunch at Zinger’s and its corned beef on rye was excellent. I also tried the pastrami and brisket that friends were eating and they were also delicious.
The kasha knish I had was also excellent.
This is by far and away the best deli Ive been to in Florida.
