Fountain Plaza Diner (Pembroke Pines)

***** Fountain Plaza Diner, 2150 North University Drive, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33024, (954) 432-4900.

Got a real good one for you…Fountain Plaza Diner in Pembroke Pines. You can check menu/prices at www.fountaindiner.com.

Let’s jump into this thing…you may be wondering how this “diner” stacks up with the players in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania—first of all, Fountain is open Sunday-Thursday 7am-9pm and Friday-Saturday 7am-11pm and we all know that northern haunts are usually 24-hour joints. On menu/prices, Fountain holds its own on this one. The joint has the requisite huge list of breakfast stuff which is served all day, salads, burgers, sandwiches, Greek dishes, meat/seafood/chicken entrees, desserts and “specials.” Now let’s talk how Fountain’s food does—I tried this joint once for breakfast and again for dinner—doing, western omelet ($5.95), 3 pancakes with sausage ($5.95), corned beef hash ($4.85), waffles ($3.95)—(dinners- include soup or salad–vegetable or potato or pasta-cake or ice cream-coffee) meatloaf ($10.95), full rack of bbq babyback ribs ($14.95), baked tilapia ($13.95), cheesebuger (with fries $6.25). THE FOOD IS DINER FOOD. As you regulars may know, in a former life, I must have been a long-haul truckdriver, because I love diners and their huge menus. Everything was just fine–but on my next outing I won’t be ordering those ribs, if you get my drift.

Now for the kicker—On Saturday nights, from 7pm-11pm the joint has free entertainment (usually, rock bands). I will tell you, on the night that I was there, Fountain had Viva Rock & Roll Band- which is one of the best 1950s-1980s cover bands in South Florida (there must have been at least 100 people eating/dancing/singing along with Viva that evening). You can check the entertainment schedule at Fountain’s website.

So, you now know about a DINER—decent enough food, really reasonable prices, pleasant service—free entertainment. What’s bad!!!

jeff, was just wondering why you don’t have a star rating like most others? you know, 1 for lousy, 2 for fair, 3 for good, 4 for excellent.

Just had a chance to read your post.

To answer your question…I kind of think that all of this STAR rating stuff is silly.

The way I play, I give a joint either 5 ***** or none at all. The 5 means that you should try it. The other means, a waste of time.

I really don’t like to split hairs. Some guys come up with 2 1/2 stars or 3 stars etc. Too much fine tuning for me.

By the way, you might hate what I like—so, this whole review game has to be taken with a grain of salt.

    Thanks for reading…

      Thanks for the kind comments.

On the stock picks…take a look at FXRE it goes for about $.26. BUT, make sure you do your HOMEWORK before you do anything with it.

      Thanks for reading…

Food okay. Nothing great but gets the job done. The bands add something.

    Hi Jeff.

I’ve been a regular at the diner for years but have stopped going there. The ruben and rachel have 1/2 the meat they used to and some of the Greek items are gone. The waitress said “why make it if you can’t make it right?”!! Mark is gone too.
Revisit it if you like and see if you can notice the difference.
last time I went in for breakfast and it was hot inside. I asked if they could turn the a/c on or down and the manager came over and turned the ceiling fan over our table on. My time there is over. The food was okay and the service was average, Mark was exceptional. Overall, I thought it a little overpriced for what you got. No more worries, I’m never going back.

OMG ! Went there just once and that was enough. There must be a thousand things on the menu…so you know most of everything is frozen. Can’t get through the isles either.. the people knock you down to be next for a table. Can’t get enough people in there ..management has the place packed like sardines..terrible food too.

Just in case you hadn’t heard, they were recently closed for too many health violations.

    I’m not surprised they closed.
