New York Prime is an “upscale steakhouse” located in Boca Raton.

This is a re-review…the original review July 23, 2008 was a “so-so” finding.

Over the years, I have eaten in this joint a number of times. My last outing was this past Saturday night with an 8:30 pm reservation. Let’s just say, that from the crowd, it appears that the “recession” didn’t hit New York Prime. Wall to wall people…with a 30-minute wait to “honor” that 8:30 pm reservation.

I have mixed “feelings” on New York Prime. The food is delicious and the service is as good as it gets…that said, there is something about this joint which doesn’t sit right with old Jeff Eats. Can’t exactly put my finger on it, but each and every-time I have eaten there, I find the joint surreal…the latest outing had me “defining” the feeling- as “New Jersey Houswives comes to Boca”—a lot of plastic surgery going on here…I’ll leave you guys to figure out what this all means…let’s just say that the crowd to say the least is eclectic.

Let’s talk food…Delicious—-chopped salad ($9.50–enough for 2 people), 22 oz. bone-in-ribeye steak ($39.50), garlic chicken ($23.50), petite New York strip steak ($34), large sauteed onions ($11), large southwestern creamed corn ($11), large hash brown potatoes ($12).

Let me sum up the experience…excellent food, excellent service, prices aren’t too terrible. Loud track/live keyborad music… with people singing along (and I do mean singing along at the top of their lungs to folks like Neil Diamond, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons and Dion & The Belmonts)—if you are looking for a quiet-intimate–or even a dinner where you can hear yourself talk, New York Prime at least on a Saturday night, isn’t the joint for you.)

Take a look at New York Prime’s website www.centraarchy.com for menu/prices. New York Prime is open 7 days a week 5pm-11pm.

Every once and awhile, a joint like New York Prime is a real good place for an upscale steak-seafood dinner. Like I said before, the food and service are top-notch and the prices not toooo bad. The “show” is also something to see.

This evening I ate dinner at New York Prime an upscale steakhouse…you know exactly what this kind of joint is all about…where a 22 oz. bone-in-ribeye goes for $42…where a baked potato goes for $7.50. Personally, if I closed my eyes and just ate, I couldn’t tell you if I was in New York Prime, Abe & Louie’s, Chops, Morton’s, Ruth’s Chris… as they all play the same tune, give or take a different “note” here and there. As for tonight’s food, it was okay, nothing great…the steak was very fatty…the hash browns bland, your neighborhood bagel-deli makes better ones and doesn’t charge $11…the onion rings and sauteed onions sides were good, but pricey at $8 and $11 respectively.

For information about menu/prices/hours… check this joint’s website at www.centraarchy.com.

Just for fun…Do a bit of homework here…look at the menu prices and figure out what “your” theoretical meal would cost. I think your calculator will show, that unless you eat like a bird… a no alcohol-no appetizer-no dessert meal is going to run you something like 60-85 bucks a head.

Last night, my party of 4 dropped $300+…everyone agreed that the food was just fair and was way overpriced. For that kind of money, you would expect at least one “Boy! that sure was delicious” comment…don’t you think?

I know people who swear by this joint…Personally, I think it’s “a- big- to-do-over-nothing.” The same goes for most of the upscale steak joints in South Florida, with one exception that being the Strip House (see review 5/9/08) in Palm Beach Gardens which doesn’t take itself all that seriously.

My wife and I have lived in Boca Raton for over 30 years.
We have eaten in NY Prime, Abe & Louie’s, Chops, III Forks, Ruth Chris, Morton’s, Capital Grille, which are currently the main players in the upscale steak arena.
You are right that NY Prime is the best in Boca. We have never had a bad meal.
You are also correct that NY Prime draws shall we say strange crowd. To me and my wife, you got a mixture of “want to be seen” characters frequenting the restaurant.
That said, for the best steaks it’s NY Prime.

  2. The Singers says...

We were the group singing…. Sweet Caroline… BUM BUM BUM!!!!

  3. JG says...

Way back when in 1969, I was the sound engineer on Sweet Caroline. When Neil wrote and recorded this song I gurantee that he never figured that over 40 years later the words “bum bum bum” would be added to the chorus by a steak restaurant crowd. Thanks for keeping the song alive.

Love the food, enjoy the crowds, a fun evening out

  5. Mr. Soprano says...

By far and away the best steak restaurant in Boca and right up there with the best elsewhere in S. Florida.
As Jeff notes, a Boca “crowd” lots of flash and showing cash, makes for an interesting visual diversion while eating a great steak.

  6. JK says...

Many of New York Prime’s male customers look like Jewish wannabe John Gottis (the gold Jewish stars around their necks give them away). Most of their wives and girlfriends look like they could be extras on The Sopranos. It is impossible to have that many natural blond headed women all in one room on one night. By the way, I was bar mitzahed so I know from where I speak. The rest of the crowd, looks like the characters on that new show Pawn Stars. Tatoos and muscle shirts up the wazoo.
This cast of characters combined with great food and service really does make for a great dining out experience.
No Muffys, Babs or Todd’s eating here.
    Personally I love the joint.

  7. KC says...

The food and service is great and it was so fun the first time I saw this crowd going crazy over Sweet Caroline, especially the napkin throwing part! Not something I would have expected at this type of place.

  8. DD says...

KC, when i was there, they were throwing cut up paper when they sang Sweet Caroline. jeff’s got it right, the food is terrific same goes for the service, but the crowd is full of itself. i have never seen so many self important people in one room at the same time. and talk about noisy, i couldn’t hear my friends or the waiter.

  9. ed g. says...

love this site, in one breath you talk about a $50 steak and in the next about a $.30 bialy. great read.

  10. DDA says...

    Excellent food.
As for the crowd, NYC Housewives meet New Jersey Housewives with a dose of Pawn Stars thrown in.
Some of the people are beyond looking ridiculous but this is Boca baby.

  11. McGee says...

Heard about them, I am thinking about dining with them for my birthday. Do they do anything special.

  12. mr. j says...

A bunch of Boca lunatics chowing down on some great food. The waiters must have some heavy duty laughs based on the crowd.

  13. CC says...

Jeff: You got this one figured right. Good food, good service, bizarre crowd.

    What a NUTHOUSE!!!!!!!

  17. Lou Weiss says...

    This restaurant sucks.
    Mediocre overpriced food.
    Geriatric crowd.

  18. Perry White says...

This restaurant is like a SNL skit.

The customers are a bullshit crowd who actually think that they know what good food is about.

  19. Skip says...

Apps fair, entrees greasy or overcooked (filet, lobster) and the crowd was like a parody of Boca. Too noisy as well, needs dividers from the bar and the ” regulars” table. Abe and Louies or Houstons is easily a better steak house. Boca Mortons and Ruth Chris are subpar for their respective chains.

  20. joe z says...

  26. Anna D says...

    Jeff,
    This joint is a wreck.
Fooling people with overpriced lousy food.
The crowd is about as old as you can get before being sent to assisted living.

  27. LOUSY,
DONT BE FOOLED BY A CROWD OF WANNA BE JEWISH SOPRANOS WHO DON’T KNOW SHIT ABOUT GOOD FOOD.
VERY SILLY LOOKING GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE SOME CASH BUT NO REAL STYLE.

  42. EDW says...

Terrific food and service. Love everything.

  43. Mickie Cohen says...

A TYPICAL LONG ISLAND CROWD WHO NOW RESIDE IN BOCA.
THE FOOD IS VERY GOOD BUT THE CROWD MAKES IT A WANNA BE JOINT.

  44. RON JOHNSON says...

WAY OVER RATED. SAVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY.

  45. Ellen A says...

    Jeff,
No ifs ands or buts New York Prime is the best steakhouse in South Florida.

  46. Ed Fishman says...

There are better steak houses in Boca Raton.

  47. SDS says...

    First time there this evening.
    Food and service were excellent.
The bar scene with music was very annoying. Half time my party of 4 couldn’t hear ourselves talking.
Don’t take it as an insult but every old male in the joint was playing wanna be Italian gangster. They look silly.

  48. Hal M says...

    Jeff,
This restaurant is obviously a goldmine. I was there with my wife last night and it was jammed. The bar was packed.
This was our first time eating there. My bone in rib eye was okay but not great. My wife’s filet minion was okay but again not great. The sautéed onions and creamed corn were okay but again not great.
The restaurant isn’t cheap and the bar’s music makes it oppressive to have a conversation at your table. We wont be back.

  49. Calvin R says...

    Delicious food. Excellent service.
The noisiest crowd of old farts that you have ever seen. You can’t hear yourself talking.

  50. Calvin R says...

Delicious food. Excellent service. prices not too terrible.
The noisiest crowd of old farts that you have ever seen. You can’t hear yourself talking.
What a joke of a bar scene.
I was there on a Wednesday and I thought ladies drink free or something because they were jammed with them.
