Copper Canyon Grill (Boca Raton)

Posted on September 12th, 2009 · American Boca Raton

Copper Canyon Grill, 2006 Northwest Executive Center Circle, Boca Raton, Florida 33431 (561) 893-8838.

Just had dinner in a brand-new “American-style” joint…Copper Canyon Grill located in Boca Raton. The joint has been open something like 1- week.

The best way to describe Copper Canyon…it sort of looks like Houston’s, J. Alexander’s and J. Mark’s. If you check Copper Canyon’s website www.ccgrill.com you will find menu/photos which will give you some idea as to what the joint is all about.

A moment ago I said that Copper Canyon “sort of looks like…” well that’s where the comparison ends. Houston’s, J. Alexander’s, J. Mark’s all have good-food…sorry to report, Copper’s food isn’t very good.

A taste test of…bbq ribs, rotisserie chicken, prime rib burger ( meat burger topped with sliced prime rib)—found everything and I do mean everything OVER SALTED BEYOND BELIEF…the same went for the french fries, green beans and broccolino sides. Amazingly, even when the dishes were sent back, they “returned” seemingly-more salty than the first time out. Gunga Din would have made a fortune working this joint.

Now let’s talk prices…1-iced-coffee, 1-beer, 2 house salads, 1 bbq ribs entree, 1 rotisserie chicken (white meat only) entree, 1 rotisserie chicken/bbq ribs combo entree, 1 prime rib burger…$140 (tax and tip included). What a waste of money! Waaay Overpriced!…not to mention, the food stunk…let’s not even mention, that there is no bread basket to “get you started.”

Now let’s talk service…the joint is only 1-week old, so being a fair minded guy, let’s just say that it was “OK”…if the service “is” the same 3-4 weeks from now…that “OK”-goes to stinks.

If the guys who own this joint really think that they can compete with Houston’s, J. Alexander’s, J. Mark’s or for that matter The Cheesecake Factory in the S. Florida market, I got a– bridge in Brooklyn that I want to sell them.

Copper Canyon is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

Let’s make this one-simple…Jeff Eats won’t be back for a second go-round.

jeff, heard a rumor that the original owner of Bucky’s, Bucky is now the general manager of Copper Canyon. heard they got rid of the gm and that Bucky is revamping the menu. i know that Bucky’s was one of your favorite bbq places. this is good news if it is true.

Just had a chance to read your post.

I think that your “news” that Bucky is running Copper Canyon is correct.

I am planning a “revist” in the near future to see if Bucky has gotten this “disaster” straightened out.

    Thanks for reading…

jeff, like you and others i heard that Mike Buckner “Bucky” had become the gm of Copper Canyon. I loved Bucky’s BBQ which was in Boca and figured if Bucky was now running Copper Canyon I’d take a shot and try it again. My first and only outing when it first opened had been disasterous as the food and service were terrible.
My wife and another couple ate there last Sat night. Bucky was there and is now the gm. The menu has been shortened but needs to have more salads and sandwiches.
Now for the food, corned bread, bbq pork ribs, bbq beef ribs, mac & cheese, roast chicken, french fries, green beans, burger. Everything was just fine. The pork ribs were perfect, the beef ribs a bit spicey but still good. The roast chicken wasn’t salty like before and was delicious.
I think that Bucky can turn this joint around.
    Give it a try.
It was a disaster and now it seems to be in recovery mode.
By the way service was terrific with the waiter doing a great job and with bucky and the manager both stopping by the table to check on everything.

Yesterday a group of us had lunch at Copper Canyon. We used a $10 gift card that one of us had. BBQ Ribs, chicken were excellent. We had heard that Bucky was now in charge so we gave it a try.
The restaurant really has a mediocre reputation so Bucky will have his hand filled trying to get things back on track.

jeff, we eat all of boca and the surrounding area. bucky’s was a great bbq restaurant and like several others here, we heard that BUCKY was now the general manager at Copper. based solely on Bucky’s arrival, we gave Copper another try in that our first outing wasn’t too hot and we were thrilled that the food and service had greatly improved. because of Bucky we did ribs and chicken and they were excellent.

    Jeff,
last night my wife and i ate at Copper Canyon. We had beef ribs. They were two spiced. We were told by a mgr that next time we should have them with the pork rib sauce because it is much milder. We love beef ribs and will be backk because it is hard to find quality meaty ones like these.

I only ate there once shortly after it opened.

I am a big rotisserie chicken fan – and I use salt- but in this case, I too found the chicken salty “beyond belief” – I mean nearly inedible…..and the server indicated they were all prepare that way, so I didn’t even send back… Needless to say, have never gone back to the restaurant.

I wonder if they ever changed their salting practices.
