The Boys Farmers Market (Delray Beach)

image

*****  The Boys Farmers Market, 14378 Military Trail, Delray Beach, Florida 33484 (561) 496-8123.

If you can “handle” its  parking-lot…with senior citizens “backing in and backing out” non-stop…The Boys Farmers Market is an absolutely great place to shop for fruits, fresh squeezed juices, vegetables, baked goods, cheeses, wines, candies, prepared  chicken/seafood/meat dishes.

Just guessing here, but The Boys’ probably has something like 30,000 square feet of indoor space jammed with top quality FOOD. All the free samples that you’d like…and everything sold, runs circles around joints like Publix, Winn Dixie and Albertsons, not to mention-probably cheaper.

My family has been shopping at The Boys Farmers Market for years…and I have been amazed by two things…namely, that we have never been involved in a fender-bender in its parking lot & the great stuff that it sells.

The Boys has its own bakery, squeezes its own juices and prepares its own “take out” food. This joint is an absolute-winner. If you live in the Delray Beach area, you probably already know about The Boys…for those of you who don’t, you got to go shopping there…just be careful in the parking lot.

The Boys Farmers Market is open 7 days a week.

    Jeff,

I agree this place is great but i dont go that often for the same reason you stated the parking lot is a very scary place.

jeff, recent outing with my wife. just a few items that we picked up.lb chicken salad, cabbage soup, balsamic chicken, onion rolls, fresh grapefruit and fresh orange juice ice, chicken marsala, cold whole watermelon. by the way, that watermelon goes for $5.99 while Publix gets $8.99. we shop at Boys once a week. great food. great prices. great selection. lousy parking lot, be smart and park way in the back where there is a building for storage and their bakery.

  3. Bill from Delray Beach says...

    Hello again Jeff ~
Everyone talks about the Boys. When I first moved in here a couple of years ago I tried it out. You’re spot on about the parking lot, but I also found that moving around once you get inside is also nearly impossible.
This is Senior Citizen central, but who am I to complain since I’m now one of them myself. It’s just that I’m at the low end of that statistic and I still find the slow shuffling down the aisles with no possibility of getting past anyone else in so maddening that I just cannot bring myself to shop there. Instead I frequent my local Publix, buy the raw materials and do the cooking myself. I consider the cooking to be my therapy (along with a nice chilled cocktail) thereby keeping my blood pressure down and my spirits (both emotional and liquid) high.
Just one newly minted senior citizen’s opinion.

Bill from Delray: Just had a chance to read your post. You are 100% correct that moving around inside is also a hazardous situation. That said, I think the “risks” are worth it.This joints’ fruits, cheeses, baked goods and prepared foods are outstanding. In addition, the prices are very reasonable. Go for it…

    Thanks for reading…

    jeff,
VERY GOOD ASSESTMENT, IF YOU ARE CLAUSTROPHOBIC,DO NOT LIKE TO BE PUSHED AROUND,HATE CROWDS,SEEING SENIORS AND THERE PARKING INABILITIES,DO NOT GO ESPECIALLY IN SNOW BIRD SEASON.

  6. Joe B. says...

jeff eats, the parking is out of control and the isles inside are like rat mazes. but the boys has the best fruits, vegetables, baked goods and prepared foods in the whole area. and its prices are terrific. so me and my wife go real late in the day when the seniors are already eating their early bird specials and aren’t around.
love your slightly perverted take on things and how you really call it like it is.

  7. LG says...

First timer at Boys yesterday afternoon. Jammed with people. Wonderful help allowing people to try everything. Great prepared food, took home bbq turkey legs, chicken salad, tuna salad. Terrific fruit selection.
    Highly recommend,

  8. Richard says...

    Jeff and all,

Yes, it is a real “adventure” going to The Boys, but I always go with a smile on my face as it is one of the funniest places to go to see people of all types in all moods. I take my time, let people in a rush (why are retired people in a rush??) and enjoy myself. The prices are about 1/2 of the big stores, the quality typically blows them away, and if you catch them on a good day you get 6 huge limes for 96 cents, Beamster cheese for a buck or two, a wheel of brie that is $75 in Publix for $5.00 and so forth. Yes, you have to be patient, park way out to the side or in the back, and have a sense of humor, but the Boys has turned out to be fun if you have the right attitude and a small budget!

  12. Cynthia says...

I think its the awkwardness of the place that makes it fun. After being out of the country for many, many years, my mother immediately took me over to The Boys, I was hit like a ton of bricks by oldsters that had no social grace or kindness, patience, or any kind of sweetness whatsoever, I thought these are not people, these are like animals, as they would walk over my foot, push me without even an excuse me, but infront of me, as if I werent even there, and then I looked at the faces, and that was even scarier, SELFISH, was etched into the lines of their very soul which seemed to appear on the lines of each face. Oh well, I go there now, to have fun, I just laugh inwardly, at how rediculous they all appear, The Boys Farmers Market is a place that has no boundries, I guess that is why they have ”constant” police surveillance at all times. I love this place though, it is like none other, the owners must really know their stuff, they have done it up right, and I feel like Europe has come right here to Delray, It is one of the best found treasures, of Delray Beach, Florida. THANKS BOYS, YOUR THE BEST!

    • Mrs. Weissberg says...

Cynthia, i think that you are being a bit too rough on the folks who shop there. i shop there once a week and on the whole everyone is pleasant and likeable.

  18. jenna says...

Yes, its all true ! You have to go there dressed in armor and have a sense of humor. Crowded and busy and crazies everywhere but the food is top notch and fresh always. Parking lot is underwater in the summer..bring your boots. Your ankles will take a beating !

  19. mrs. rich says...

the fresh tangerine juice is worth the fight to get through the parking lot and islaes.

  20. chg says...

Was at Boys yesterday. Very busy. Have been a customer for years. This is a great place for baked goods, takeout home meals, fish and fruits. Prices are very fair.

It’s a wonderful place …. the best for FRESH fruits and veggies, great cheese selection, fish, samples. No place like it. Food goes in the back door and out the front door same day. I Love It.

  30. KAREN says...

Was there today. A bit quieter than usual but still pretty busy. Besides great fruit and vegetables they have great prepared foods.
Once you try Boys you will never go to Joseph’s, Doris, Whole Foods or any other supposedly gourmet markets. Boys is in a league of its own and the prices are so right.

  31. mkk says...

amazingly great fruits, juices and foods. great prices,

  32. Helen Katz says...

My sister in law brought over a number of baked goods from Boys for Memorial Day at my home in Delray. Included were an apple pie, chocolate chip cake, Russian coffee cake.
The cakes were all wonderful. Since she’s my sister in law she had no problem telling me what they cost. Cheap would be an understatement.

  33. Mr. F. says...

Parked way in the back so my car wouldn’t get smacked up.
Some of the best stuff cabbage I’ve ever eaten.
The bakery is outstanding. The selection is awesome and the prices amazing.
Just be sure to park way back in back.

  35. Jillie says...

Here is some advice-go early, park to the side and wear sneakers 1 to avoid getting stepped on, and 2 the floors are very wet. I wore flip flops once (only once) and slid and almost wiped out!

  36. sharon cohen says...

they make a chicken pot pie that is sensational. two minutes in the old microwave and its good to go.

  37. bonnie says...

  42. moe says...

Was there today. Made it safely in and out of the parking lot. Also didn’t get stampeded inside the store by some old lady.
This time of the year they have fresh tangerine juice.
Love the selection and the owners and staff are very helpful and pleasant.
    Best market around.

  43. Alex C. says...

I have lived in Delray 30 years. The Boys used to be a wooden shack on the same location with the same quality produce – but grew into the wonderful specialty market that it is. You cannot miss the strawberries in season. As Cynthia said above, you won’t find crabbier, more self absorbed old people anywhere. But that goes without saying anywhere in Boca or Delray. The only thing I can figure is that they are miserable. I shop at the Boys in early morning or just before closing, the crowds are far thinner. You have to experience The Boys at least once – you’ll be back!!! I don’t let the nasty crotchedly old farts keep me from this wonderful place!

  44. popper says...

as usual packed parking lot today and great fruits and vegetables.

  45. Norman says...

Best fruits and vegetables. Excellent prepared foods.

  46. nickie says...

was there on monday around 4:30pm. the parking lot was totally out of control. never saw it like that before. inside it was also out of control. people banging into each other. very scary place.
great food and other things but you put your life at risk going there.

  47. RT says...

Parking not too bad this afternoon around 4:15. There was one old jerk who had about 20 cars backed up while he tried to pull into a space right in front of the entrance door. My wife said that one day hopefully I would live to be that age, so I will catch hima break, but in all honesty, somebody should take his driver’s license away.
Food and selection as great as always.

  48. Jaci says...

The Boys is a Florida Landmark. If you have the right attitude in life, the Boys is a piece of cake. In all of my years of going(at various times of the day) I have never been hit,run over,or been spoken badly to by these “seniors”. We find the people that shop in this store to be delightful and fun. Afterall everyone there is there for the same reason….great food, great choices, and great prices. It is a “shop” that we look forward to!

  49. RACK says...

Best fruit and vegetables in the area. All at the riight price.

  50. TheButler2012 says...

They make great teriyaki wings. I’d match them against any served by wing restaurants.
