***** Matteo’s Restaurant, 233 South Federal Highway, Boca Raton Florida 33432, (561) 392-0773—&—1825 East Hallandale Boulevard, Hallandale, Florida 33009, (954) 455-4050

Matteo’s is a Southern Italian Restaurant. Matteo’s has 2 South Florida locations. Matteo’s is not cheap, but you won’t go to the poor-house, if you order sensibly. Matteo’s serves both family-style and individual sized portions. Matteo’s food is absolutely sensational. Matteo’s wait-staff is probably the best in all of South Florida. Matteo’s is always jammed.

Check Matteo’s website www.matteosrestaurants.com for menu/pricing/details.

Matteo’s is one of my favorite Italian Restaurants.

End of story.

My wife and I ate at Matteo’s after reading your story. We got there last Saturday night around 8:30 pm and the place was jammed. This is the restaurant in Boca Raton. We waited about 20 minutes and were seated. We had some of the best Italian food that we have ever eaten. The portions were enormous and the service was as professional as it comes. The minestrone soup, baked claims and fried zucchini were absolutely incredible. We shared a broiled steak smothered in grilled onions that was better than what is served at most fine steak houses. We also shared a dish called Chicken Matteo which had roast chicken and sausages that was sensational. Thanks for the recommendation and we highly recommend that everyone try Matteo’s because it really is as good as you say it is.

jerry & lisa: Glad to see that you enjoyed Matteo’s. Like I said in my writeup, it is my favorite South Florida Italian Restaurant.

  3. Jeremy says...

I live in Hallandale and have been going to Matteo’s since they opened…phenomonal place! I highly recommend the eggplant rollatini, meatball with eggplant appetizer, seafood salad (both only at the Hallandale location), excellent shrimp francese, and veal parm. I would have to agree…probably the best southern italian in south florida! anyone from new york will feel right at home.

    Hi Jeff,

Well you are right on the money once again! Matteo’s in Hallandale was DELICIOUS my hubby and I had the Chicken Matteo (it was enough for 4 people) and it was outrageous.. The calamari was a great start! We ended with coffee and Tiramisu.. A little more than we usually spend. But worth every penny! Thanks again!

Had dinner at Boca Raton Matteo’s last night. I try and eat there at least once a month. Best Veal Valdstano around. This is my favorite Italian restaurant since moving here from NY.

  7. Last night I and my wife and another couple had dinner at Matteo’s in Hallandale. We got there about 8:15pm and the restaurant was very busy. The food is great. From the chopped salad, baked clams, chicken scarpiello, veal parm, fried zucchini, garlic bread, minetsorne soup, everything was great. The waiters are knowledgeable. This has to be one of the best Italain restaurants in Florida. By the way, in addition to Hallandale and Boca Raton a new Matteo’s recently opened in Jupiter.

  8. Sammy says...

I went to the Hallandale store and I gotta tell you, Thats was a great experience, from baked clam to canoli, from bus boy to manager, a real first class Italian restaurant NY style!!! They care and it definitely shows
Mickey is my new best friend…..

  9. I have been eating at the various Matteo’s for years. I think that I have been to everyone of their restaurants except for the one that just opened in Jupiter Florida. I have always found these restuarants to have outstanding food and outstanding service. I have also found that there is a continuity of service in that many of the waiters in NY and Florida work both areas. I seriously doubt that you can find better Italian food in Florida. There is a reason why Matteo’s is always busy. I have tried many Italian restaurants in Florida and most are mediocre at best. If you want great food and great service then you have to try Matteo’s. Thank you.

Sammy: Just had a chance to read your post. Matteo’s has 3 S. Florida locations…Boca Raton, Jupiter and Hallandale Beach. I haven’t gotten up to the Jupiter joint, but have eaten in the Boca and Hallandale resturants numerous times. I have never had a bad meal in either location. Both spots are superbly run and I always feel right at home whenever I eat there. The waiters are terrific and the guys who run these joints like, Mike in Hallandale, Guisseppe/Joey/Peter in Boca Raton are absolute pleasures to do business with. They know how to treat their customers and that’s why Matteo’s is probably the best Italian Restaurant in South Florida.

    Thanks for reading…

Last night I and my wife and another couple ate at Matteo’s in Boca Raton. The food was great. There is obviously no recession at Matteo’s as the restaurant was packed to the rafters and there was an hour wait to get in at 8pm. Good for Matteo’s. Great food and great service.

  12. My husband and I are snow-birds. When we are in NY we eat at Matteo’s or Don Pepe’s or La Parma and when we are down here its Matteo’s either in Boca or Hallandale.

  13. G.S. Boca Raton says...

Tried the Boca location for the first time this past Sunday night. Chopped salad, Chicken parm, veal parm, penne ala vodka. Thought that the food was ok nothing great one way or the other.

  14. paula s. says...

Dinner for 4 last night at Matteo’s Boca location. The waiters are great. These guys don’t even have to write things down and yet the orders are delivered perfectly. The food exceptionally good. One of the best Italian restaurants in Florida.

  15. Hi jeff eats: Big fan of Matteo’s. Have eaten in a number of its NY locations and in Boca and Hallandale stores. The food is always consistently good as is the service. The guys who run these restaurants are real pros. Latest meal was this evening in Hallandale location. Food as usual terrific. Everyone should try Matteo’s it really is that good.

Living in Boca Raton for about 18 months. Had heard nice things about Matteos but until last night had never tried it. Dinner last night and all I can say is great. Ate in Boca restaurant and the portions were enormous. The service by Hugo fantastic and the food is absolutely great. Minestrone soup, chopped salad, clams, veal parm, steak, chicken with sausage. Party of four had a terrific meal. You are right, this is one of the best Italian restaurants. When we left last night at 8:30pm the place was full and people were waiting in the bar to get tables.

    Great restaurant.

  17. Hi, my wife and i had dinner at matteos (boca) this past weekend and everything that you said is right, this has to be one of the best if not the best italian restaurant in s florida. delicious food and great service. followed your suggestion and didnt order too much and the waiter was very helpful in that regard. we will definitely be back and highly recommend this restaurant.

  18. norman b says...

no recession at boca raton matteos this evening. line out the door. great food and service.

  19. gb says...

Eat at boca and hallandale stores. Love both. But i think that the Hallandale store which is much smaller has slightly better food. Can’t beat the minestrone anywhere.

  21. Attended a birthday party last night at Matteo’s in Boca Raton. I have never eaten so much great food with incredibly great service. This has to be right up there as being the best Italian restaurant in Florida. This place makes baked clams that are fabulous. Every dish that was served was delicious. You have to rty Matteo’s it really is that great.

  22. TG (Boca Raton) says...

I and my wife and two other couples ate at Matteo’s the one in Boca last night for the first time. The two other couples are regulars and have been raving about the food for years. We got there about 6pm and the place was full and we waited 30 minutes for a table. Well, the wait was worth it as the food is delcious. We shared chopped salad, baked clams, veal parm, penne ala vodka, steak, chicken scarpariello and shrimp scampi . The servers are great. Even though packed the waiters didn’t miss a thing. When we left around 8pm there was still a line waiting to get in. Figure on spending about $40 a head, but you will be stuffed like a pig
    Highly recommend.

sorry, il gabbiano in miami is the best italian food in florida.

  24. Je Hewlett says...

Take it from this 5 -towner, Matteo’s is a great restaurant.
Hit the Hallandale spot yesterday and the food was as always terrific.
    Highly recommend.

  25. Jeff, matteo’s is a good italian restaurant, great, no way. now dont get me wrong, nothing terrible, but the food is far from gourmet meals. when you compare matteo’s to what you call neighborhood joints it is far superior, but when you match it against some of florida’s top chefs there is no contest. i am not going to list names but believe me there are tons of restauarnts in florida that have better food.

matteo’s is good when compared to neighborhood places but it really is no match when thrown up against upscale restaurants.

    thanks.

  26. MR (NY NY) says...

Four of us enjoyed Matteo’s immensely last night. You are correct the food is incredible. The portions come two ways 1/2 and full size so you can pick and choose what the table eats. We had amazing baked clams and chicken on the bone cacciatore not to mention veal valdastano that was huge and penne a la vodka. Waiters are real good and know how to a handle a table. We are staying in Hollywood Florida for 6 months and will be back to Matteo’s real soon.

  27. Dinner las night at Boca’s Matteo’s at 6:30pm. Packed packed packed. Line out the door when we left at 7:50pm. No recession here. Love the food. Love the service.

  28. joe from boca says...

sorry jeff, ate there last night in boca and the food is really not that good. matteo’s has a certain air to it, with waiters and managers kissing people hello ala Tony Soprano and it’s all fun, but the food is really not all that good. restaurant was very busy with people waiting to get in. big ny crowd.

My wife and two other couples ate here last Saturday the 20th. We had heard of it from NY and wanted to give it a try. Sorry Jeff but I just didnt find it to be sensational at all. In my opinion the food was mediocre. I will say the wait staff was good. I much rather go to some of the other Italian restaurants around Boca or Delray. I tried another Italian place near Matteos (Im not sure if I am allowed to name it) but it was called Rosarios. You should give it a try. We found the food to be excellent and the wait staff to be on par with Matteos.

Dinner this evening at Matteo’s in Boca Raton. Have been eating at Matteo’s since it opened in Boca. Once again last night meal was great. This is definitely the best Italian restaurant in S. Florida. They make minestrone soup like nobody else, same goes for baked clams, fired zucchini, penne ala vodka, just to name a few dishes. If you want great food, you go to Matteo’s.

  34. Matteo’s has three Florida locations, Hallandale, Boca Raton and Jupiter. I have eaten in all three restaurants and the menus are almost identical as are the prices, food and service. This has to be one of the best Italian restaurants that I and my wife have every eaten in. The food is incredible. The service is terrific. If you have not yet eaten at a Matteo’s you really are missing out on a terrific experience. It’s a casual restaurant and every customer is treated as if they were an owner. Don’t miss Matteo’s.

  35. Isaac says...

    Hi Jeff,
    lotta comments here huh..
I gotta say I love Matteo’s. The Staff is always great, theres always someone watching over every table and every dish. That’s NY !
The food is great and always consistent, try Chicken Isabella, or Shrimp Oregonata Luciano.
New is the “Stuffed Rigatoni in a Sausage Marinara” or whole wheat penne with burnt cauliflower in Garlic and oil topped with toasted bread crumbs,
    puts the competition to shame!!!!!!

First time last night at Matteo’s Boca Raton. This has to be one of the best run restaurants that I have ever been in. The waiters and bus people really know how to handle customers. Amazing that waiters can remember orders without writing down orders, at least, ours did.
The food is fabulous. Outstanding baked clams. Sensational veal parmigiana. Never tasted a better minestrone soup. If you want a top meal Matteo’s is a no brainer.

  37. BV says...

Dinner for four at Matteos in Halandale last night.
You are 100 percent correct that this is a fabulous restaurant.
Our dinner chopped salad, baked claims, fried zuchhini, chicken cacciatore, veal parmigiana, linguine with white clam sauce.
The food is great. The service is great. The prices very reasonable for a family style restaurant.
If you haven’t tried Matteos you really are missing out some very special.

  38. c.b. says...

Lived 52 years in the Woodmere.
    Know Matteo’s from NY.
    Recently moved to Parkland.
Matteo’s is Boca is excellent. Just as good as the NY spots.
These guys know how to run a restaurant.

  46. jeff, i see that the sun sentinel gave matteo’s hallandale 3 stars today. the reviewer loved it but i cant figure why only 3 stars.
i have eaten many times at matteo’s and love the food. i have also eaten at la stella’s and one outing was more than enough for me. i wouldn’t consider going back.
i am really starting to question the sun’s rating system when matteo’s gets only 3 but la stella’s gets 3 1/2.
    your thoughts?

  47. JeffEats says...

Norman Rappaport (N. Miami): Just had a chance to read your post.

Like you, sometimes I find the Sun Sentinel’s ratings very confusing.

    Thanks for reading…

  48. I seriously doubt that you can find a better meal. Dinner last Sunday in Hallandale Beach and food and service were terrific. The portions are enormous and you will definitely have a doggy bag when you leave. I highly recoomend this restaurant.
