Whole Foods Market (Boca Raton, Coral Springs, Wellington, Fort Lauderdale, Plantation, Aventura, Jacksonville, Palm Beach Gardens, Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Naples, Tampa, Winter Park)
***** Whole Foods Market, 1400 Glades Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 447-0000.
It just dawned on me, that although I have referenced Whole Foods Market in several “joint” writeups, I’ve never done a writeup on Whole Foods Market. Play along with me, because I seriously doubt that any of you guys don’t know what Whole Foods Market is all about…
The best way that “I” can describe Whole Foods Market is- a national chain of specialty supermarkets…that does an absolutely incredible job-of-marketing its products. The reason I make the “marketing” comment, because give or take a handful of items, Whole Foods’ prices are ridiculously HIGH…for example, a quart of fresh squeezed tangerine juice at Whole Foods $3.99, while a similar quart at The Boy Farmers Market in Delray Beach goes for $2.49. The folks behind Whole Foods Market are real smart—they successfully carved out a niche in the organic food/product business—and you do know, don’t you, that many Americans are really into this holistic/organic/healthy/climate control lifestyle. Personally, I still believe that hiding under my desk at PS 179 in Brooklyn/1955 was enough protection from a Russian nuclear attack.
Just so we are straight, every so often I buy stuff at Whole Foods Market. The primary reason, my local Publix doesn’t carry the item…that fresh tangerine juice is an example.
Let me leave you with this thought. When I was a kid, my parents would let me and my brother “look” at the toys at FAO Schwarz in Manhattan…they- then bought us “our” toys at Toy R Us or a local store in Brooklyn for much less. For sure, every so often FAO Schwarz had a unique toy here and there, but then again my parents weren’t buying me a $1,000 battery powered car to drive on the sidewalks of East Flatbush—for some perspective here, in 1955 (just to pick a year!) pizza was $.15 a slice, a gallon of gas ran $.26, a small Coke went for a nickel and a haircut was 50 cents
Whole Foods Market is open 7 days a week 8am-10pm. You can check store details at www.wholefoodsmarket.com.

Got a winner for you. Lots of sushi as well as all the standard stuff. High quality. Not your standard oriental
buffet. A bargin at +/- $15 for dinner!

overpriced food.
like you said, great marketing.
Agree with earlier comments. Only go there when I want something that no one else has. Plus, parking , entering and exiting are miserable.
Jeff,
The store in Boca is gigantic.
Very expensive prices.
The fruits and vegetables aren’t any better than the stuff you get at Publix.
Same goes for the baked goods.
The prepared foods are lousy.
You hit the nail on the head that marketing is this chain’s game. They got loads of people convinced that they have something special going on.
The Boys in delray is a million times better and cheaper.
Why Publix doesn’t sell fresh juices is a huge question. Big market for that stuff.

Subject: Italian sauce in Florida – What’s up with the sugar?!
Message Body:
Jeff, I just moved here from VA, originally from RI. Every Italian restaurant I’ve been to in Delray (about 6 of them), the sauce is way too sweet. I’ve never experienced this before up north.
Is there a reason for the restaurants using sweetened sauce?
Can you recommend a red-sauce mom & pop place to get good veal parmesan without the sickeningly sweet sauce?
Sincerely,
Rob

Just had a chance to read your post.
Can’t really give you a good reason on “using sweetened sauce.”
Give Nick’s Pizzera in Boca Raton a try. The pizza maybe to your liking, same goes for the chicken parm sub. THey don’t have veal parm.

At least at whole food you dont take you life in your own hand sin the parking lot like to do at the Boys. I love the place but dont go due to the parking
What you waste in money at Whole Foods you could probably buy a new car if you shopped at BOYS.
Jeff, same exact quart of fresh tangerine juice at The Boy’s is $2.50 and $3.99 at Whole Foods. EXACT SAME BRAND, EXACT SAME PRODUCT. Need I say more?
i think the store has a faint sickening smell. and the people shopping there remind me of woody allen in sleeper. this store is just a big CON.
one of the few that sells fresh tangerine juice, only reason i go there.
You forgot to mention the hairy armpits and granola clientele that Whole Foods attracts. For me, that makes the experience even MORE expensive than it already is.
One of the products that WF lucked into is organic craft beer, which they sell at a decent price, not horribly above the best rate you will fine at sorta less convenient Total Wine. But again, factor in the prying eyes on my Beef Promotion T-shirt and groomed appearance.
their roast chicken is delicious.
no question about it there is an unpleasant smell in their stores. the people shopping there look like they are in a trance. sort of reminds mre of those hari krishna guys in the orange sheets that you use to see on the streets and airports.
Is just an unpleasant patchoulli-and-hairy-armpits sort of smell, or an unpleasant ammonia-and-bad-fish smell? I can deal with the former, but the latter made me vow never to shop Joseph’s Classic Market again (Boca Town Center strip mall off Military Trail).
Prices are foolish.
Good roast chicken. They also have all the fresh orange and grapefruit juice that you want . A bit pricey, but not too bad.
Was in Boca one yesterday. Walking through an isle I saw they carry organic ice cream cones. Give me a break. Also they use paper bags that rip as soon as you walk out the door. This place is a nut house.
I drink a tremendous amout of fresh grapefruit juice. I buy the juice at The Boys, Joseph’s, and when I cant get to them Whole Foods. Whole Foods is $1 per quart more than the other stores.
The prices are a little high but the quality of the food and produce is always excellent. They have nice steaks and seafood as well. By Gregg L. Friedman MD, Psychiatrist, Hallandale Beach, FL
Just picked up orange and grapefruit juice at Boca store. I usually get my fresh juices at The Boys but decided to just go to Whole Foods which is closer. Basically the exact same product but selling for 1 buck more per quart. That’s roughly 25% difference on an item.
Jeff
Boca store on glades was open although its Easter.
Store was jammed at 2pm.
I like the baked goods selections bit expensive but no big deal.
The Boca store left a bad taste in my mouth, that’s why I shop in the pompano store. Twice I went in to return some fruits, the girl at the desk name Holli act like I was doing something so wrong. She’s rude, sarcastic, and disrespectful and ask a million questions for 5$ return, as I walk away she start talking about me to this tall orderly White guy even point her finger, that’s what you called customer service. Wowwww never again
