Tramonti Ristorante (Delray Beach)
Tramonti Ristorante, 119 East Atalantic Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida (561) 272-1944.
Restaurants come and restaurants go, especially on Delray Beach’s Atlantic Avenue…as soon as one goes out of business, another seems to take its place.
Tramonti has been around for several years. I have walked/driven by this white table cloth Italian joint something like 50 times and its indoor/outdoor tables were always/and still are jammed…Obviously, Tramonti must be doing something very-very right.
I have eaten at Tramonti exactly twice, once when it first opened and most recently two weeks ago. The food (chicken scarpariello and steak pizziaola) at best was just “fair” and overpriced…the service unprofessional/borderline horrendous.
Many people rave about this joint. I am going to let you in on a little secret, Tramonti is “full of itself” and has bamboozled its fans into believing that it is a top-notch Italian Restaurant.
Do me a favor and go to Tramanti’s website www.tramantidelray.com where you can get menu/prices/and other details about this joint. Notice how its owners play up their relationship with the world famous Angelo’s of Mulberry Street which first opened for business in New York City in 1902….There is absolutely nothing special about Tramonti’s food, service or prices. What Tramonti is…is a place where people go to “see and be seen”…capice! I suspect that the Angelo’s “connection” is what triggered the star-status currently enjoyed by Tramanti.
I believe that someone once said, “I knew Jack Kennedy…and you are no Jack Kennedy.” Well…I have eaten at Angelo’s of Mulberry Street and Tramonti Ristorante is no Angelo’s of Mulberry Street.
Anyway…I could be 100% wrong about Tramonti, so if you want to decide for yourself the joint is open for lunch/dinner Monday-Saturday and dinner only on Sunday.
Food is fair. Service stinks. Outrageous prices. Stay away.
Food C
Service D
What a silly place. Overpriced lousy food. Waiters who think they are somebody. Customers sitting around looking to see if anyone famous is there.
What a silly place.
What a waste of time and money.
Shortly after they opened my wife and I went for our anniversary dinner. Extremely rude maitre’d pointed at a table and I requested an escort, menu’s, etc. He complied with some uncalled for attitude. Thereafter it was all downhill….poor service, adequate food at best and terribly overpriced. We would never return.
My husband and I enjoy Tramonti’s. No question some of the waiters and mgrs have a superior air about them but the food is terrific.
GARBAGE.
A put on joint.
Lousy food and lousy service.
Stay awaaaaaayyyyy!!!!
i like the food and service.
What’s there to like Jeff?
nothing special going on there, dont waste your time or money.
Terrible.. they should be ashamed! Food was the pits…
Jeff, they got an attitude but their food is top shelf.
i agree
the service has too much attitude but the food is very good.
A waste of time and money. Wouldn’t go back if you paid me.
Don’t get sucked in by the sheep who must be seen in there by the other sheep.
Jeff, loved the food.
you are right the waiters got an attitude.
Food is fair at best and the service stinks.
I like the food. Find the service pretentious.
Jeff, give it another try. the food is excellent.
Food is fair.
Tables too close.
High prices.
Service average .
Like their food.
Tables are too tight.
Service is just fair.
A bit too expensive.
Not worth going to.
Ate there last night Food isn’t very good. By the way Angelo’s in Little Italy isn’t all that good either.
Food is a 10. Worth the price. Location is a 10.
Food is decent enough, Service is decent but could be better,
Won’t be back.
Jeff,
My wife and I are new to the area.
Tried last night and the food and service were just average at best,
Sorry I didn’t find jeffeats.com before we ate there.
Love the blog.
Jeff Eats,
Heard the joint is closing.
My wife and I ate there years ago when it first opened.
Thought that the food and service were just okay.
You called it right, it’s was full of itself.
I have been dining at Tramonti for nearly 20 years. Sadly, this restaurant has lost its edge and based on our recent experience, it’s doubtful that we will return.
Our party of six dined here 2 nights ago. It was Saturday night and we had a reservation. We were excited to celebrate with our friends and enjoy some good Italian food.
After timely checking in, we were directed to the bar as our table was not ready. The bar was packed and there was little real estate available for our party of 6 to stand, let alone to order a drink. Instead, we hovered over nearby diners and managed to get in the path of servers. At a half-hour past our reservation time, we asked the Maitre de for a status on our table. “Not ready! I’m working!” he barked. Another 30 minutes passed, and despite the evil eye we were getting from the Maitre de, we drew short straws and had that person ask for another update. He was curtly dismissed by the table gate keeper. Finally, one hour and 15 minutes after our reservation time, we were seated near a Christmas Tree (it’s June), but I digress.
We mentioned to our server, and to the bulldog Maitre de before him, that perhaps they could sweeten our lackluster experience thus far with a complimentary appetizer or glass of wine. The Maitre de, remaining in full bulldog character, was quick to reply, “No! I can’t do that!”
None of us could hear the daily specials mentioned, so we just ordered off the menu. One diner asked to substitute the side of green beans with basically any other vegetable, but heard the common battle cry of the night, “No! I can’t do that!” I had the seafood fra diavolo dish, topped with a few clams that never opened (when you get a dish with only 4 clams and 3 remain shut, one needs to question the quality control). Our water glasses were aggressively filled between ounces, and our appetizer plates were removed within seconds, so at least that part was quick.
The bill arrived and a “Supplemental Fee” of about $19 was noted at the bottom. Our server informed us that this fee represents the merchant fees charged by using a credit card. The total bill was over $500, and it came off as a little petty to charge a “Supplemental Fee”. Moreover, the suggested tip calculations at the bottom of the bill included the Supplemental Fee as part of the total billed amount upon which a tip should be based.
This Delray restaurant was founded by a family patriarch, Gino Silvestri. He has since passed away, and my understanding is that one of his sons bought the restaurant from the other son. Since then, the dining experience has steadily deteriorated. While the food is good, it’s not the best Italian food in the area (it should be of better quality for the price), the space is loud, the decor is dusty and dated (it’s not Christmastime), and it’s past its prime. There’s only so much longer that it can ride on legacy alone.
