* Nostalgic Candy
* Nostalgic Candy
I don’t know about you guys…but every so often Jeff Eats likes “to go back” to a more innocent time…for me that’s the 1950’s—mom, dad, brother Andy and our 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment- 6M at 811 Cortelyou Road, Brooklyn, New York 11218—(718) GE 8-7625.
Now- you and I both know that there is no such thing as a time-machine.
Jeff Eats’ way of going back—
I go to the computer and type in www.blaircandy.com and order 4 boxes of 24 count 1.5oz bars of Bonomo Turkish Taffy at 24 bucks a box —1 box of vanilla, 1 box of chocolate, 1 box of strawberry and 1 box of Banana (my favorite)—wait 3-4 days, get the package in the mail- and then precede to smack the bars down and crack the taffy up.
You’d be very surprised how effective this Bonomo Therapy is…
For you guys who don’t know what the hell I’m talking about…GOOGLE-BING or whatever you use!
If you got a second, tell sentimental old Jeff Eats about the candy of your “past.”
jeff, Goobers, Raisenettes, Black Jack Gum, Button Candy, Nestle Crunch Bar,
I don’t know if you remember the little chocolate cubes wrapped in thin foil called Ice. They sold them right by the cash register at the corner lunchenette or candy store. They cost 5 cents and melted in your mouth right away…..so good!
Jeff, check http://www.candycrate.com that’s the site I use for my retro candy.
Your http://www.blaircandy.com is good but I think this site of mine is better.
Remember licorice black pipes? Those were my favorite. Also loved Sugar Daddies.
Chuckles!
Loved those guys.
Jeff,
I was just thinking. In 1964 I took typing at PS 217 in Brooklyn. Who would have ever thunk that today we would be “typing” on phones and Ipads and computers.
Like you I loved Bonomo but remember that they cost 5 cents back in the 50s.
You can just go to To the Moon 2205 Wilton Drive – Fort Lauderdale, FL 33305. They have all flavors of Bonomo and every other kind of old-time candy you can remember and lots of other stuff. A fun place to explore!
Take a look! Jeff’s already got a writeup on To the Moon.
Here’s the website: http://www.tothemoonmarketplace.com/index.html

Lou-Candy Crate also sells their product on Amazon. On occassion they have huge discounts on the retro candy crates. Very unique and cool. Sometimes you wonder why some candies were discontinued. I think it comes down to the current distribution methods make it hard for the niche stuff.
Remember- Sen Sen (tastes like soap), Charms, Jolly Rancher Sticks, Jolly Ranchers, neeco wafers (I think those go back to tun of the century), Chuckles,Piixie Stix, Sweet Tarts, Pop Rocks, Bubble Yum, Fruit Stripes Gum, Astro Pops, Black Jack Gum, Bottle caps, marathon bar, fun dip, push pops, gold mine (nuggets) gum, Zotz, Razzles, Freshen-Up Gum,

The wax bottles! thats another good one.
Smith Bros Cherry Cough Drops
Also Pine Brothers drops. A company now makes Pine Honey and Cherry but they are not eactly the same as I remember. Smith Bros also made a licorice one? I gotta go to that place in Wilton manors. When I went to Australia the hot candy bar there is called Cherry Ripe. People love those things.
