* Mother’s Day 2018!

Why Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats selected The Capital Grille, 6000 West Glades Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 368-1077- to celebrate Mother’s Day 2018 at- is beyond me. I now suspect that Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats don’t read Jeff Eats!

The Capital Grille, 444 Brickell Avenue, Miami, Florida 33131 (305) 374-4500.

This evening, I had dinner in the “upscale-white tablecloth steak-joint”…The Capital Grille located in Miami.

Just so you know, The Capital Grille which has something like 32 locations in the United States is owned and operated by publiclly traded Darden Restaurants which also owns/operates Red Lobster, Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Bahama Breeze and Seasons 52 restaurants. The Capital Grille is Darden’s UPSCALE STEAKHOUSE CONCEPT.

At this juncture of the review you can check The Capital Grille’s website www.thecapitalgrille.com for menu/prices/locations.

Using a $50 gift card from American Express which also included 2 free desserts, I still managed to run-up a $250 tab for dinner for—4.

I’m not going to bother you with details…let’s just say, that the food isn’t very good…my Delmonico steak was salty and McDonald’s has better french-fries…

This joint is a rip-off…overpriced crap.

One good thing to report, we had a waiter, David M. who was outrageously good. He knew the menu inside and out…provided outstanding service and even gave me a full-walking tour of the kitchen.

The Capital Grille does lunch- Monday-Friday and dinner Monday-Sunday.

Don’t waste your time.

***As a postscript to the above…two days after eating at The Capital Grille, I contacted Darden’s corporate offices and advised the President’s Office of what a lousy meal I and my party had had. Various information was exchanged and I was assured that the individual who oversaw the South Florida Region would personally contact me to discuss the matter. Just wanted to let you guys know, that it is now July 20, 2015 and to date, I have not recieved a phone call, letter or any form of communication from anyone at Darden. Obviously, this public company couldn’t give a rats-ass about what I think about their operation. This…should give you a heads-up about what this chain’s customer service may-be all about.

    Jeff,
You got Abe & Louie’s, NY Prime and Morton’s all within 3 minutes of The Capital Grille so there is not even a chance I’d pick the Grille.

  2. Andy Gold says...

The Capital Grille is a second rate joint.

  3. Lo Lo says...

Too many terrific steak joints in Boca Raton to pick this one.

    Jeff,
Maybe Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats are adopted😛

    Happy Mother’s Day.

That’s got to be it, adopted.
The Capital Grille is definitely not the best or even close to being the best steakhouse in Boca Raton.

  5. Joe Kennedy says...

The Capital Grille sure wouldn’t be my pick in Boca Raton. I’d be going to NY Prime. Actually I’d drive 20 minutes and go to NYY Steak at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek.

  6. Jeff H says...

Ive eaten in Boca loc a handful of times. it’s ok, but no match for New York Prime, Abe & Louie’s or Morton’s.

***** Okeechobee Steak House, 2854 Okeechobee Boulevard, West Palm Beach, Florida 33409, (561) 683-5151.

The Okeechobee Steak House has been in business since 1947. The joint is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

The Okeechobee Steak House is not a fancy schmancy upscale steakhouse. That said, the food is terrific and the menu is priced right. For around 35-40 bucks a head, you get salad, entree and side dishes. A similar meal at a fancy schmancy joint- which is maybe a 1/2 a notch higher in quality and service would run you $55-60.

The Okeechobee Steak House serves top quality steaks and seafood. Like I said a few seconds ago, it isn’t a fancy schmancy joint with tee shirts/shorts being pretty common there. What makes this a “beautiful” place is that it doesn’t take itself seriously like “upscale” joints do. The game here is good food and good service in a real-easy atmosphere.

Look…you don’t stay in business for 61 years without doing something right. Try this joint, you will

  9. Carl Furillo says...

I like Ruth’s Chris the best in Boca.

  10. Scotty says...

Jeff, the lobster crab cakes are outstanding!

  11. Donald Diamond says...

The best in Boca Raton is NY Prime.

  12. Hank Winston says...

    Another lousy one.

Morton’s The Steakhouse, 5050 Town Center Circle, Boca Raon, Florida 33486 (561)392-7724.

Morton’s is a national chain of “upscale-white-table cloth steakhouses.” There are currently 7 Florida locations.

I have eaten in the Boca Raton joint twice. The food is fair. The service is as phony as a 3-dollar bill. The prices…are upscale steakhouse prices, figure a complete meal runs somewhere around 100 bucks a head. Morton’s like every other upscale steakhouse prides itself on having tip-top service. Morton’s is also “big” on tableside presentation…having its wait-staff show/explain “raw cuts of meat” during the ordering process. The wait-staff also “shows” desserts before ordering.

In my most recent outing, the waiter during the meat-showing told my party, ” My personal favorite is the 24 oz porterhouse.” Amazingly…near the end of the meal, the very same waiter (I guess feeling a bit comfortable with our group) told me that he was “a vegetarian.”

Like the waiter, Morton’s is nothing but a scripited joint. The wait-staff could all work as tour-guides at Disney World…”watchout for that shark on the right side of the boat…boy that was sure close.”

If you still want details, Morton’s website is http://www.mortons.com.
