    Steve’s Pizza (North Miami)
Posted on October 30th, 2008 · Italian North Miami Pizza
    ***** Steve’s Pizza, 12101 Biscayne Boulevard, North Miami, Florida 33181 (305) 891-0202.

Many people swear, that Steve’s Pizza in North Miami makes the best slice of “NY-Style” pizza in all of South Florida. By the way, this “debate” has raged since 1974 when Steve’s a “graffiti covered hole-in-the-wall” first opened its door for business.

For those of you who don’t eat pizza…Steve’s has tons of other stuff like subs, calzones and various entrees…but the game here, is PIZZA.

Now…I am going to let you decide for yourself as to where Steve’s stands on the pizza-totem-pole. What I can tell you, is that this joint is always packed and bangs out thin crusted-sweet tasting slices like crazy…and I would make a 38 mile one-way-drive any day of the week to get two of those slices with a large Coke.

    Steve’s is open Monday-Thursday 11am-3am…Friday-Saturday 11am-4am…Sunday 11:30am-2am.

Pizza by the slice. Can’t beat this one.

I attended Erasmus Hall School from 1963-1966. Every day after school (or almost every day…as I get older, things get foggier), I stopped at Angelo’s Pizza at the corner of Cortelyou Road and Flatbush Avenue for a couple of slices and a large Coke…back then a slice ran 15 cents and the Coke was 6 cents…anyway—if memory serves me correctly, terrific–crispy crusted pizza with a delicious sweet sauce and plenty of oil dripping out of the slice when pointed down.

Mauro’s Pizza in Hollywood makes terrific–crispy crusted pizza with a delicious sweet sauce and plenty of oil dripping out of the slice when pointed down. The slice is gonna run you about $2.50.

Very little seating, so plan on standing outside or eating in your car…the joint is open Monday-Wednesday noon-3am, Thursday-Friday noon-4am, Saturday noon-4:30am and Sunday 4pm-3am.

Jeff Eats loves… this hole in the wall-takeout only-cash only Italian joint’s pizza.

No ifs ands or buts, Grandpa’s “slice” could make it Brooklyn or for that matter The Bronx!

Here’s the original writeup…don’t forget it’s cash only!

Got something real-good for you Bonita Springs-folks…

Grandpa’s Pizza & Pasta…a hole in the wall that makes delicious pizzas, pastas, salads, strombolis/calzones, subs. This is a cash-only affair (there’s an ATM in the store) and don’t plan on eating there, because it’s takeout only.

The other day, Jeff Eats and a couple of buddies were in Bonita Springs to checkout some “musical acts” at The Stage (see review 8/28/11) and heard about Grandpa’s from some locals…

No fooling around here…one of the best New York Style pizzas I’ve had in a very long time…same for the ricotta/mozzarella/ham calzone, meat lasagna and chicken parm sub.

    You can check Grandpa’s menu/prices at http://www.grandpaspizza.net.

From what I understand, Grandpa’s has been around for something like 34 years…so I’m thinking that I’m not so crazy on how good I think the food was.

Grandpa’s Pizza & Pasta is open Monday-Saturday 11am-9:30pm, closed on Sunday

Eddie & Sam’s New York Pizza (Tampa)
Posted on November 17th, 2016 · Fast Food Italian Pizza Subs/Salads Tampa · [edit]

    ***** Eddie & Sam’s New York Pizza, 203 East Twiggs Street, Tampa, Florida 33602, (813) 229-8500.

Two and a half years ago- Jeff Eats told you guys about Eddie & Sam’s New York Pizza an absolutely terrific pizza joint in Tampa. Hadn’t been back since that “story” appeared!

Anyway, last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “did” some pizza there and I gotta tell you- off the chain delicious!

Today’s story- what constitutes or doesn’t constitute a Real New York Slice is anyone’s guess- all I know- is that Sam & Eddie’s New York Pizza kills and that if you live, work, or play anywhere near this joint- you should give it a shot!

    ***** Eddie & Sam’s New York Pizza, 203 East Twiggs Street, Tampa, Florida 33602, (813) 229-8500.

Real simple concept…order at/pickup at the counter…pizzas, pastas, salads, heroes. The joint has both indoor and outdoor table seating.

You can check menu/prices at http://www.eddieandsamspizza.com.

Eddie & Sam’s “bubameiser” (some of you guys may have to use Google-here) is that its pizza is made with water imported from New York.

    Anyway…

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats recently did dinner at Eddie & Sam’s and I gotta tell you, the joint makes a delicious thin crust/crispy/sweet sauce pizza. Just as important, Eddie & Sam’s- Chicken Roll (chicken parmigiana wrapped in pizza dough), Sausage Onion Green Pepper Roll (grilled onions, green peppers, sweet sausage, mozzarella cheese wrapped in pizza dough) and Caesar Salad were delicious.

Let me sum things up for you…Eddie & Sam’s food is real-good and “specials” like 2-slices/Coke for $5.99 are right on the money (pun intended).

Now that you know about a real good pizza joint in Tampa–let me turn my attention to this NYC water thing.

Long story short, there are countless people who “argue” that it’s NYC’s tap water that makes pizza in NYC so good…these same people also claim that NYC tap water is what makes NYC bagels so good…

    Now…

Jeff Eats was born in Brooklyn in 1949. Jeff Eats lived in Brooklyn from 1949-1979 and in Manhattan from 1980-1991-and has literally eaten in 100s of pizza joints in Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island, Manhattan and I gotta tell you, that I can distinctly remember eating numerous slices–that were absolutely horrendous-lousy-crappy-terrible-inedible–so just maybe this NYC tap water story isn’t-all that it’s cracked-up to be. Now Jeff Eats could be wrong here–but perhaps- the quality of the dough/sauce/cheese/oil/ingredients/type of oven used/and who the pizza maker is–plays a huge role in how good that slice ends up.

Not looking to burst anybody’s Advertising Campaign or nothing–but this NYC tap water-thing has literally become part of America’s pop culture–sort of like Big Foot, you know–it may exist, but then again maybe not.

One quick observation, on its website Eddie & Sam’s says-that New York water is used–it doesn’t say NYC tap water is used. Capice! You can call me Ray and you can call me Ray Jay, but don’t call me Eagle Eye Jeff Eats!

    To wrap things up…

Eddie’s & Sam’s New York Pizza is a winner–no matter what- water it uses!

The joint is open Sunday, Tuesday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm, closed on Monday.

Francesca’s Italian Ristorante & Pizzeria (Delray Beach)
Posted on May 18th, 2016 · Delray Beach Italian Pizza Subs/Salads · [edit]

    ***** Francesca’s Italian Ristorante & Pizzeria, 4900 Linton Boulevard, Delray Beach, Florida 33445, (561) 498-1817.

Got a very good “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joint for you guys- 9 month old Francesca’s Italian Ristorante & Pizzeria in Delray Beach.

Real simple tale to tell you guys, last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “did” dinner- and Francesca’s food, service, prices were right on the mark!

For you guys with inquisitive minds, Francesca’s menu has the “expected” appetizers, salads, soups, hot/cold subs, pastas, pizzas, calzones, stromboli, entrees (soup or salad, pasta side)- your tee shirt/shorts/flip flops’ ensemble is the dress of the day!

You guys and Jeff Eats both know that “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joints are literally a dime a dozen down here in sunny South Florida. For sure- some are very good, others are good, some are fair and others flat-out stink! You guys and Jeff Eats also know, that food “reviewing” is a subjective-exercise, what Jeff Eats likes, you may hate and vice versa- with that in mind, based on the veal parmigiana, penne with meat sauce, stromboli, garlic rolls, Philly cheesesteak sub (Francesca’s calls them heroes) that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats had- Francesca’s gets a “very good”-call…delicious food, super pleasant service, large portions, reasonable prices

Jeff Eats is kinda thinking -that if you live or work in Francesca’s neighborhood- you definitely want to give the joint a shot!

    Francesca’s Italian Ristorante & Pizzeria is open Monday-Thursday 11am-9:30pm, Friday 11am-10pm, Saturday 3pm-10pm, Sunday 3pm-9pm.

Bambini’s in Delray Beach makes a delicious slice.

    • Scott A. says...

I was going to recommend Bambini’s as well. Sometimes their service can be dicey. The sub’s are great too – love the seeded rolls.
