Another example of someone- making a big deal out of nothing!

Real short story for you guys…yesterday afternoon, I stopped at a McDonald’s and bought a vanilla soft serve ice cream cone. It cost a buck and it was delicious! End of Jeff Eats’ story.

Now take a look at The Health Guru’s (health guru.sg) “version” of the same cone!

Like Jeff Eats said 3-seconds ago, making a big deal out of nothing!

To wrap this one up for you guys…This $1- vanilla soft serve ice cream cone is a real good thing to know about!

NUTRITION INFO: MCDONALDS SOFT SERVE ICE-CREAM CONES

McDonalds Ice-cream cone
Someone recently asked me about the nutrition of a McDonalds soft serve ice-cream aka: ‘McDonalds cone’ and why it was so sweet and nice and only had 150 calories. Could that be true?
From my research, this is what McDonalds states as the correct nutrition for their ice-creams.
Nutrition of McDonalds Ice-cream in a cone: Serving Size: 90 g
Energy: 150 calories
Protein: 4g
Carbs: 24 g
Fat: 3.5 g
The website also states that the ingredients are: Whole milk (protein), sucrose (sugar), nonfat milk solids, corn syrup solids (sugar), mono and diglycerides (fat), guar gum (thickener), imitation vanilla flavour, carrageenan (vegetable thickener), cellulose gum (thickener), vitamin A palmitate (synthetic vitamin A; occurs naturally in dairy)
On a whole, there is nothing too nasty in these cones. It’s the equivalent of drinking a can of softdrink in terms of calories. It just really depends on how many eat, how frequently and what you’ve eaten in the same day.
Here’s some other things to consider:
Fact: 1 teaspoon sugar is approximately 4 grams. Therefore, this ice-cream contains nearly 6 teaspoons of sugar.
Fact: 1 teaspoon of fat is 5 grams. This contains ¾ teaspoon fat.
So scoop out some fat, add 6 teaspoons of sugar, a splash of milk and then thicken it and you have a McDonalds soft serve ice-cream!! Doesn’t sound quite so appealing to me if you think of it that way.
But truthfully, if you have these very occasionally, it’s much better than having a decadent magnum ice-cream. As a tip, if you are trying to watch your weight, consuming a water based ice-block is much better for your waistline and health.
But as always, the health guru recommends: Eat slowly, put your utensils down between bites and stop eating when you feel 80% full because it’s better to waste it than to ‘waist’ it.

Jeff, best deal going, Great cone. You are right just a simple story. DELICIOUS!

  2. I and my husband aren’t McDonald’s fans. The food is not all that good. That said, I will tell you that whenever we are in the Wellington Mall we stop at the McDonald’s in the food court and have a couple of those vanilla cones. They are delicious and ar a buck they are a bargain. The article you reprinted like you say makes a big deal out of absolutely nothing. Love the blog and keep up the great work.

Great writing by that “author” of the article…

Here’s my contribution to Health Food writing:

“If you rip a pound of muscle and fat off of a pig’s stomach and cook it in its own grease, you have bacon.”

…it may sound gross, but it’s friggen’ delicious!

I get this cone at least once a week.
    Low calorie and delicious.

I have tried all fast food restaurant’s versions of vanilla cone (including Wendy’s Frostie). While the McDonald’s cone is good, the best fast food $1 cone is from Burger King. It is much better tasting and, in many outlets during the Summer, the cost for that excellent cone is only 50 cents (regular price $1.) For those that want a better ice cream cone, this is your deal. For those that go for price, this is your deal, too.

    Jeff,
The vanilla soft serve is delicious. I am guessing that most people don’t even know that McDonald’s has this. At a buck it’s a steal.

    Jeff,
Just got back from the McDonald’s on 441 near Glades Rd in Boca where I had 2 of those cones. Had to ry them after reading about them here. Loved them and the price was definitely right. I did have a quarter pounder with cheese and FF. the burger was not too good but the fries were delicious.
