* Hotwire Communications Is Worse Than Comcast!

Jeff Eats’ MASTER HOA recently replaced Comcast with Hotwire!

Trust me on this one, Hotwire Communications is worse than Comcast.

You’ve now been warned!

  1. Shelly says...

    Jeff:

Everyone is so pissed at Comcast (and from what I understand, Comcast is not negotiating on what they want to renew contracts) that when Hotwire (Also known as Fision) comes in with their pitch, they look very attractive. In my opinion they are stretched way beyond their capabilities. They manage to straighten out most problems within a month or two after transition. Tier movie rental options stink and their on-demand choices are really limited. Find out who the on-site rep is for your community and call him or her when you have a problem. The phone people are helpless.

  2. Shelly says...

Never did take their offer of free phone service for a year. Felt that when the computer and TV were down, I wanted a different carrier for our phones, so they wouldn’t be down. By the way when their system is down, you can’t reach them by phone, because their phones are on the same system. Catch 22.

    Jeff,
I am the President of our HOA.
We have been in talks with Hotwire about switching to it when our current contract with Comcast ends.
Your column, comments here and many that I have read online gives me great concern as to whether or not this Company is the way to go for our community.
Thanks for the heads up and letting others know of the problems that you have had.

  5. Pat says...

Have you had any follow-up comments regarding Hotwire Communications since May. Interested because our HOA is installing it as I type.

    • LODI says...

      Pat:
My community recently switched to HW.
To answer your question, right now as I type, CNN and a half dozen other stations are off the air.
Hotwire isn’t a very good company.
Its phone service is a total disaster.
You will receive calls showing area codes from all over the United States but when you answer there is no one on the line.
I thought that COMCAST was bad, this is as bad if not worse.
Their picture is better and their cost is lower, but they have tons of problems.
Our HOA should have left things alone.

      • Pat says...

Thank you for responding. Some of us looked at the reviews….all terrible…before contract was signed but to no avail. Don’t know why anyone would go bulk or pick a provider worse than the one they already have. Has been a very upsetting experience and it isn’t even installed yet.

        • JeffEats says...

          Pat:

Two nights ago in the Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton, television and phone service were both down. On the phone part of the equation, no service in or out of the home. Now for just one minute- imagine if you had a serious emergency that required medical or police assistance! I am guessing that Hotwire figures that you have a cell-phone with ATT, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile- so they don’t have to worry about your home landline.

          Thanks for reading…

  6. Johny Whadaducci says...

I heard the prison work relief system works wonders it has the added benefit of keeping the costs down.

  7. Johny Whadaducci says...

I would like to announce I live at Woodfield CC and my internet, phone, television has never been down for a second. I have ATT U-VERSE! You get what you pay for. I will not devulge my location. I do not want a line of neighbors asking to use my fax, phone, or what is the score of a football game. Come to think of it all Hotwire clients should be provided with a free radio, as well as a free ham radio, with each signed HOTWIRE contract. This way Woodfield CC members can a least listen in or send out morse code signals for help.

  8. Joanne says...

Our HOA is inviting Hotwire to speak at a future meeting to consider switching from Comcast. From what I am reading it could be jumping from the frying pan into the fire !!!!. Just to save a few bucks ????
Not a good move I suspect.

    • Mr. Hurst says...

      Joanne:

      Not sure about other communities.

I live in the Woodfield CC in Boca Raton.

      To date nothing but problems.
      In my house:
      Pictures constantly freezing.
Internet and WIFI in and out.
Telephones disaster. Calls come in from numbers that you don’t know and then there is no one on other end.

Your HOA should look really hard before going with Hot Wire.

    From: Phil Aquino
    Subject: Hotwire

    Message Body:
Our Palm City community of +/- 700 doors is getting bids from Hotwire, ATT, and Comcast for tv and Internet service.

Your site’s Hotwire thread is helpful. Do you have more current entries?

I am concerned our aging population cannot handle much in the way technical problems, though a dedicated tech is proposed.

Thanks in advance for any response.

    • KLEINMAN says...

      Phil Aquino:

      Here’s my situation” with Hotwire.

Our HOA of about 1250 homes switched to the service from Comcast.
The cost is definitely lower for those of us who used Comcast’s premium services. For those who didn’t have premium services the increase in HOA dues was a huge increase.

Right now as I type, my iPad has no internet connection.
My telephone service often gets rings coming in but no one on the other end. The calls come in from numbers that we do not recognize.

Our Tv using Hotwire boxes constantly have pictures that freeze up. You have to go back and forth with the remote to get things working.

Don’t forget, if the internet goes out, you have no phone service.

At night, around 11pm my wired internet service on my computer totally shuts down. Why? I have no idea and doesn’t comeback on to early morning.

Personally, I’d be real careful with Hotwire. I thought that Comcast was horrendous, these guys aren’t any better.

      Be careful!

      • Allen says...

Hotwire Communications (610-642-8570) is solely owned by Billionaire Michael Karp of Philadephia, PA (google him). Kristin Johnson Karp is his wife who is the President but he mainly hides behind her. She is on LinkedIN as well as their Hotwire Site. If you have a petition in your property then there must be petitions at the other properties they operate in. Your group may want to connect up with those groups for more strength. Just an idea.

    • Pat says...

Stay away from bulk. It makes no sense to enter into a contract for 10 years when other advancements are coming. We tried to tell our board this but it wouldn’t listen. Let the owners keep their independence. If they want a provider go retail and let them chose the one which they can always leave if the service isn’t satisfactory. If you go bulk, you can leave but you will then pay not only for the new retail provider but still be made to pay for your participation in bulk. That is the nature of bulk. That bulk provider WILL get its share no matter what. You do not need this aggravation. There is nothing on the TV that is worth it.

      • Pat says...

Another item is the exclusion of certain people who have disabilities. Because a hearing or visually impaired person would have little or no interest in this, the State of FL allows them to be exempt IF THEY ARE LIVING ALONE. The rest of the owners pick-up the tab for the disabled owner. You would be surprised how the word “disability” can be interperted and how the part “living alone” can be overlooked by the board. Another aggravating situation.

  10. Johny Whadaducci says...

Regarding the signed contract with Hotwire Woodfield CC can be released from this contract citing “Failure to perform”. The HOA sends a certified letter ending terminating the contract. If Hotwire refuses Woodfield CC files a Consumer Fraud complaint with the State of Florida. The state will investigate the company and will take action against the company. Complaints should also be filed via cerified mail with the attorney general’s office and better business bureau. So Woodfield CC is certainly not stuck…

  11. I made a big mistake switching my 3 landlines from ATT to Hotwire. Hotwire is a lot cheaper but the service is very poor. Dropped calls. Calls come in but no one is on the line. Dial a number and a recording comes on and says that the number isn’t recognized. What a mess. Caller hold and Id doesn’t work.

On tv service, channels freeze. Techs don’t show on time.

On internet, dead spots all over the house where iPads don’t work or constantly lose connection.

Every day is a challenge with Hotwire.

Our HOA switched from Comcast to these clowns. The phone service was my dumb move.

  12. gary says...

I have my phones with hot wire. The worst service imaginable.

  13. Asimov says...

    Tv service out this morning.
    Always something w this co.

  14. JP says...

Just so you know the Board/Committee did not even give Comcast the opportunity to renew. I know of someone personally involved in the negotiation and your President didn’t even show up to their presentation. Another committee member asked my friend for a job while he was there. You could’ve all had the X1 system right now. There are alot of shady people out there pushing communities like yours to Hotwire. Be very weary of attorneys, consultants, & board members from both your community and others, trying way too hard to push you in a certain direction.

  15. I live in Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton.

Hotwire has been here for something like 17 months.

I have both cable and phones with it.

Phone service is beyond HORRENDOUS. Dropped calls all day long. Other times calls come in but no one is on other end.

Cable tv, channels constantly freezing up.

Internet, service goes in and out depending where in the house you are.

Comcast was terrible. Hotwire is horrendous.

  16. Skippy Edison says...

    Hotwire sucks.
Our tv, Internet and phone service at Wcc is disgraceful.

    Tv freezes on channels.
Internet works and then doesn’t work.
Phones are a total joke with dropped calls all day long and incoming calls which have no callers on the other end.

  17. Pissed Off says...

My service stinks in Woodfield Country Club.
    Station freezes.
    Internet goes in and out.
    Phone rings with bogus calls.

  18. Adam says...

I’m upset about how limited the subchannels are. Where are Antenna TV, Bounce, and Laff when you need em?

  19. Stu Itzler says...

Stations and playbacks freeze all day long.
    Service is terrible.

  20. Ben S says...

Tv pictures freeze up all day long.
Phones ring showing #s that don’t exist.

  21. Johnnywhadaducci says...

Is this cable company finally reliable?.
Who are the putz’s (names please). Next thing we will find out is the Woodfield CC, $1,000,000 + a year contract has not bid out for 12 years. Is this the same putzaroni or different putzoni who signed these contracts?

  22. Joan Sellers says...

    Their phone service stinks.

  23. Laura says...

We had Comcast before we move. My only complaint with them was getting a tech. Out when we were out due to a malfunctioning box. So, we recently moved & thought ok we will call & have our service moved. Uh that was a NO after speaking with our neighbors we were informed that our subdivision was contracted with Hotwire. Which was a provider I’ve never heard of. Well it took them 2 weeks to come install & we have had nothing but problems since then w cable & internet. It took them 16days to get a tech.out to fix the cable problem & they don’t provide routers you can buy one of theirs for 175.00 dollars. Or purchase on from the store so I went out & bought one & still will not work. WORSE SERVICE EVER! DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE!

  24. Tweaker says...

These guys make Comcast look good.

  25. Too M says...

1:20am all tv service in Woodfield CC is out. This company stinks.

  26. ksr says...

Here in Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton 1 tv my house frozen on one channel. Called customer service and they said earliest they could get to me was this coming Tyesday 3-5pm. That means no service Sat, Sun, Monand Tues. Hotwire is a terrible company.

  27. Ed Washington says...

They have repair and installation people who don’t have a clue as to what to do.
They all have different opinions and no one agrees on how to repair or install.
    Avoid this company.

  28. Ben T says...

    This Company stinks.
Our HOA fell for Hotwire’s sales pitch and switched from Comcast to Hotwire.
    Phone service sucks.
Tv and internet always have issues.
    Stay away.

  29. Steve 21212 says...

Terrible service. What a bullshit company.

  30. I Hate Hotwire says...

They fixed my tv cable problems here in Woodfield CC on Wednesday. When they left my phone service was dead. Just got it fixed. These guys are the worst.

  31. Judith Garber says...

I am moving to Woodfield in a couple
Of weeks. Will I be able to keep Comcast which I have now? I am very happy with them and if I have a problem I can call service and they fix it remotely. I can move my equipment with me. I depend on fast Internet service and dependable Internet because I work from home.

    • JeffEats says...

      Judith Garber,

A number of WCC residents kept Comcast. That said, if you have Comcast in WCC you still have to pay the HOA for Hotwire service even though you are not using it.

      Thanks for reading…

    • Sammy G says...

Hot Wire showed up today to fix tv problem. Tech said he figured out what’s wrong but didn’t have the equipment to fix the problem and will send another tech 2 days from now to do work. That’s 2 days I have to waste for this incompetent company and who knows if they’ll ever show and if they do actually fix the problem.

I live in the Woodfield Country Club and have nothing but problems with my tv, internet and phone service which are all furnished by Hotwire. Freezing tv pictures, phones that ring but no one is in the other end, computers that stop and go as connections come and go. Bad news with this Hotwire.

  43. DDR says...

I live in the Woodfield Country Cluh. My phone service is out. Worst company ever. Was told that they could fix it on 3/1. Today is 2/25.

  44. James says...

I can share with you all a few things. The WCC Board President at the time didn’t even have the decency to attend the Comcast Presentation at their office. In fact only 3 people from Woodfield attended. One even asked for a job while there.

The board and committee had zero intention of “negotiating” with Comcast.

    • Carl H says...

The HOA President shortly after Hotwire got the contract moved from WCC.

      Very strange, don’t you think?

  45. Pissed Off says...

    Hotwire is a shit company.

        Robert DeCastro,
When your Company has no tv service there is little that you can do for anyone at the WCC.
Your phone service is the worse. I made a major mistake switching from ATT to Hotwire. Dropped calls, total loss of lines, you name it and your Company caused it.
Freezing up of channels. Another problem.

How the HOA switched from Comcast to Hotwire is beyond me. At least when Comcast was late for an appointment they credited our accts with $25 per occurrence. Hotwire couldn’t give a good shit about being on time.
